Background / History
Before transmigrating, Good lived comfortably as a landlord. His family had received demolition compensation for eight houses, and he eventually quit his job to live off the family’s resources. His routine included mahjong, chess, fishing, basketball, and gaming 1.
Good did not welcome his arrival in the new world. Finding himself in the body of a towering Beasts Pirates subordinate, he resolved to regain his former lifestyle by earning money, buying property, and collecting rent. He spent roughly two and a half months preparing before capturing Yamato and purchasing his first warehouse in the Flower Capital 1 5 6.
His ties to the Beasts Pirates became a deliberate commitment rather than a temporary arrangement. He considered Kaido’s rewards, relatively relaxed management, and willingness to promote capable subordinates more attractive than the risks of striking out alone 20.
Appearance
Good has a massive, heavily muscled build, a bald head, and a fierce face. His introductory description compares his physique to Zangief and his face to Kratos 1.
- Human form: Stands 2.8 meters tall and is described as bulkier than a bear 1.
- Clothing: Wears a rough Viking-style outfit in the Flower Capital; later appears in formal attire at his club and a cape at Kaido’s banquet 6 19 28.
- Lightweight Form: His skin crystallizes into crimson armor covering his head, waist, and limbs, while much of his body remains human 26 27.
- Full Groudon form: A red, armored creature over five meters tall, with dark shell markings that begin turning orange as it absorbs Ace’s power 50.
Personality
Good’s central ambition is financial security rather than fame or adventure. He would prefer an early retirement supported by property income, but pursues rank when it protects his investments or increases his authority. His attachment to ownership is strong enough to shape his Haki development 1 6 20 30.
He is calculating, opportunistic, and willing to use coercion. He waits for Yamato and Ulti to exhaust each other before intervening, uses influential names to secure construction funding, and threatens villagers and officials when negotiation stalls. He openly tells his Hakumai collaborators that he does not trust them: cooperation rests on aligned interests 3 8 29 32 34.
Despite usually preferring strategy, Good has a violent, battle-hungry side. Against the Kozuki Remnants, he accepts additional wounds to kill dangerous opponents and continues fighting until the survivors flee. He also values his reputation, refusing to lie down for faster recovery while spectators are watching 19 20.
His fondness for Yamato grows beyond an appreciation of her appearance and strength. Her resolve to help Wano’s people without demanding their gratitude impresses him, prompting him to say that he is starting to like her 9 29.
Abilities & Skills
Groudon Hosting and Transformation
Good shares his body with a growing Groudon and inherits its power. His muscular development advances alongside the creature’s growth 5 26 50.
- Physical enhancement: Baby Groudon doubles his strength; later growth further improves his physique 5 50.
- Lightweight Form: Produces a crimson armored shell and functions similarly to a Devil Fruit user’s hybrid form 26 27.
- Full transformation: Allows him to assume a towering Groudon body, shown standing apparently unaffected inside Ace’s flames 50.
- Growth requirement: Groudon needs substantial Nature Power. Ordinary food contains too little for rapid development, while Devil Fruits offer a concentrated source 27.
- SMILE consumption: Groudon consumes the Artificial Devil Fruits inside Good, leaving him without the visible changes expected by the observers 24 26.
- Flame-Flame Fruit interaction: Ace’s flames supply compatible Nature Power with an effect Good judges hundreds or thousands of times greater than the SMILE fruits 50.
Earth Power
Good can manipulate the ground through the power inherited from Groudon 8.
- Stone barriers: Raises walls with a stomp to block attacks from both sides 7.
- Fissures: Channels power through his greatsword to split the battlefield and drop enemies into the earth 19.
- Precipice Blade: Erupts blade-shaped stone pillars beneath enemies, impaling them across a large area 19.
- Stone spikes and shelters: Obstructs Shutenmaru’s escape and protects himself inside a large rock during an explosion 45 47.
- Resource discovery: Uses Earth Power to locate and uncover a hot spring beneath his warehouse 8.
- Limitations: A large-scale Precipice Blade consumes enough stamina that he can use it only once within a short period. The pillars crumble when he stops sustaining them 19.
Ground-Based Recovery
Contact with the earth continuously supplies Good with Earth Power that slowly heals his wounds 20.
- After the club battle, he estimates that remaining on the ground for three days and nights would fully heal his injuries 20.
- Increasing bodily contact with the ground improves recovery, though he initially refuses to lie down because he wants to preserve his intimidating image 20.
Armament Haki
Good awakens Armament Haki through the confidence created by owning property. His later acquisition of an entire town produces a much larger increase 6 30.
- Defensive hardening: Protects the back of his neck strongly enough to break an attacking samurai’s sword 7.
- Offensive coating: Coats his fists in black Haki when exchanging blows with Ace 50.
- Limitations: Haki does not entirely eliminate the searing heat he feels from Ace’s fist 50.
- Observation Haki: He explicitly has not awakened it during the warehouse ambush. Groudon’s danger warnings help him recognize the threat instead 6.
Close Combat and Greatsword Fighting
Good relies primarily on overwhelming force rather than refined sword technique. He considers his body better suited to jujitsu and wrestling 4 5.
- Disarms an exhausted Yamato through repeated heavy greatsword blows 4.
- Stops Page One’s Haki-coated punch barehanded and slams him into the ground 26.
- Catches and shatters Holdem’s sword while transformed 28.
- Overpowers Ace in their initial fist-to-fist exchange 50.
- His broad sword swings leave openings, contributing to the numerous wounds he suffers against the Kozuki Remnants 20.
Business and Political Strategy
Good uses his position, commercial ventures, and Yamato’s connections to build authority within Wano 17 29 35.
- Secures construction funding by presenting his warehouse project as Kyoshiro’s property 8.
- Recruits courtesans, trains them as hostesses, and offers gold prizes to motivate them 16 17.
- Organizes reconstruction through administrators, prisoner labor, patrol forces, and performance-based release incentives 34.
- Extracts campaign funding and troops from Orochi while promoting Hakumai’s development 39 41.
- Uses physical evidence and guided questioning to steer Daikoku toward identifying Kyoshiro as Ushimitsu Kozō 47 48.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Door-sized greatsword — His principal weapon, described as roughly two meters long or longer. He uses it for heavy strikes, blocking attacks, and channeling Earth Power into the ground 1 7 19.
- Page One hiding-place map — Records Page One’s usual hiding spots. Good gives it to Ulti to obtain leave, resulting in her finding her brother 14.
- God of Wealth Town contract — Establishes his ownership of the settlement and surrounding farmland after the villagers provide their handprints 29 30.
- Cigars and lighter — Used as theatrical props to project menace. During the SMILE inspection, he lights a cigar despite not actually being a smoker 25 32.
Properties and Enterprises
| Property / Enterprise | Details |
|---|---|
| Flower Capital warehouse | His first property after transmigrating. Buying it awakens his Armament Haki; the ensuing samurai attack damages the building 6 7. |
| Heavenly Residence Hot Spring Spa Club | Built around the warehouse’s hot spring with Kyoshiro’s funding. Good operates the venture while naming Yamato its owner 8 16 17. |
| God of Wealth Town and surrounding farmland | Acquired under a coerced contract. Good plans a new town, wastewater channel, reclaimed farmland, and roads as part of Hakumai’s reconstruction 29 30 34. |
Relationships
- Groudon — The creature living inside him and the source of his earth abilities, enhanced physique, recovery, and transformations. Its need for Nature Power drives his search for Devil Fruits 5 20 26 27.
- Ulti — His initial direct superior; Good serves as her deputy and leads her fan club. She is openly attached to him and becomes alarmed when he eats multiple SMILE fruits. He later claims she is his fiancée 1 3 13 24 25 38.
- Page One — Close friend, fishing companion, and sparring partner. Good alternately helps him escape Ulti and reveals his hiding places. After their spar, Page One endorses Good as a prospective brother-in-law 14 26 27.
- Yamato — Initially his capture target, then his friend, fighting partner, and business backer. She regards him as her only friend after he feeds her in the dungeon. His later claim that they are engaged leaves her embarrassed and protesting that she does not want to marry 10 17 38 39.
- Kaido — Captain and patron. Good deliberately demonstrates loyalty to earn Kaido’s support; Kaido promotes him, prioritizes his development, and entrusts him with guarding Onigashima 20 24 28.
- King — Initially monitors Good’s influence on Yamato, then takes an interest in his potential following the club battle. He disapproves of Good apparently risking that potential on SMILE 15 24.
- Speed — Friend and procurement contact who supplies newspapers. Her pirates capture the surviving Kozuki Remnants, and she checks on Good after his near-fatal battle 5 20.
- Blue Worm, Red Sparrow, and the other two helpers — Trusted subordinates who assist with the club and report on Hakumai’s growing reputation. Good considers them dependable but too weak for his more dangerous needs 16 20 39 41.
- Kyoshiro — Business contact who finances the hot spring project and supplies courtesans. Good later collects evidence pointing to his identity as Ushimitsu Kozō 8 16 48.
- Shimotsuki Yasuie — Village chief whose concealed identity Good knows. After acquiring the town, Good appoints him chief administrator for the reconstruction project 21 30 34.
- Hyogoro — Prisoner whose life and promised release Good use to secure the cooperation of four yakuza bosses. Good subsequently makes him commander of the prisoner workforce 32 34.
- Omasa, Mitaiping, Gongoro, and Acho — Underworld bosses recruited through leverage over Hyogoro. Good assigns them patrol duties but does not regard them as sufficiently loyal 32 34 41.
- Orochi — Political rival and campaign sponsor. Good intends to take his head, while Orochi plots to have Good killed and seize Hakumai 35 39 41.
- Daikoku — Ninja assigned to the campaign with orders to assassinate Good. He instead stabs Shutenmaru during the fighting and later receives Good’s evidence against Kyoshiro 41 46 48.
- Ace — Opponent whose arrival Good anticipates. Good fights him personally, both to defend Onigashima and because he fears Ace might draw Yamato away; the battle reveals a new source of Nature Power for Groudon 49 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Capturing Yamato
- Good pursues Kaido’s bounty opportunity while helping Ulti find Page One. He waits until Ulti and Yamato are exhausted before joining their fight 1 3.
- His victory earns him the nickname Devil Muscle Man, although the watching pirates boo the brutality of his methods 4 5.
- While Yamato is imprisoned, he brings her rice and listens to her account of Oden. He then challenges her identification with Oden and her repeated, unsuccessful confrontations with Kaido 10 11.
Establishing the Hot Spring Club
- Good’s first property purchase is followed by an ambush from Kozuki samurai. He defeats them and negotiates compensation from Kyoshiro for the damage 6 7 8.
- He turns the warehouse’s hot spring into a commercial club, borrows courtesans and Komurasaki, and opens the establishment under Yamato’s name 8 16 17.
- He defends the club against the Kozuki Remnants, survives severe wounds, and earns promotion to Shinuchi 19 20.
SMILE Inspection and Establishing Authority
- Assigned to receive Doflamingo, Good uses intimidation without intending to provoke an all-out battle 22 23.
- Groudon’s consumption of the test fruits makes Doflamingo’s SMILE appear fraudulent. Kaido punishes Doflamingo, while Groudon’s growth unlocks Good’s Lightweight Form 24 25 26.
- Good defeats Page One in a spar and Holdem at a banquet, silencing many officers who resent Kaido’s favoritism. He is treated as a candidate for the planned Flying Six, but no promotion to that group is documented 27 28.
Hakumai Reconstruction and Conflict with Orochi
- Good volunteers to guard Onigashima during Kaido’s expedition, leaving him free to pursue his Wano projects without his usual superiors nearby 28 29.
- He coerces God of Wealth Town’s residents into signing away ownership, obtains a thousand prisoners from Babanuki, and recruits Yasuie, Hyogoro, and the regional yakuza bosses for reconstruction 29 30 32 34.
- He reveals that his ultimate goal is Orochi’s head, reasoning that Kaido needs productive subordinates, weapons, and money more than any particular shogun 35.
Atamayama Campaign and Ushimitsu Kozō Investigation
- Good persuades Orochi to finance a campaign against Shutenmaru. Despite Orochi’s assassination scheme, he delays departure until the funds arrive and ultimately leads five hundred samurai and four ninjas into Kuri 39 41.
- His forces launch a nighttime fire attack on the bandit stronghold. Shutenmaru eventually dies after further fighting, and Good returns with his corpse to a public celebration 44 45 46 47.
- Good investigates Ushimitsu Kozō’s attempt to rescue Shutenmaru, using their likely connection and recovered blue hair to direct Daikoku’s suspicion toward Kyoshiro 47 48.
Battle with Ace
- When Ace reaches Onigashima seeking Kaido, Good impersonates his captain and moves the confrontation to the Back Mountain to avoid damage to his home 50.
- Good overpowers Ace’s initial punch, transforms after being engulfed by Fire Fist, and discovers that Groudon can absorb Nature Power from Ace’s flames. The supplied material ends before the battle’s outcome 50.
