After making a quick circuit of the research institute, the little plushie led Xie Wen and the others to a wall with black and yellow stripes. Pointing at a huge black button bearing a skull symbol, with "DANGER" written above it in large red letters, she spoke with a serious expression.

The corner of Xie Wen's mouth twitched, and he scooped Klee Meow up.

Yes, our little angel Klee Meow's eyes are so innocent and adorable. She definitely isn't lying to me!
After looking the little plushie in the eyes for a few seconds, Xie Wen immediately ruled out the possibility that she wanted to play a prank.
This wasn't Xie Wen letting his feelings cloud his judgment. Their little kitty could be a bit mischievous sometimes, but she still knew what mattered and what took priority.
Most importantly, that button had finally stirred a faint memory of a detail from the original story-when Franky was on Karakuri Island, his entire face had indeed apparently been blown off for some reason...
There was nothing he could do about it. The manga had devoted far too little coverage to the two years the Straw Hat Pirates lay low, so Xie Wen really couldn't remember many of the details. Even things that could jog his memory were pitifully scarce.
But with that little bit of memory, Xie Wen could more or less deduce what was going on.
Perhaps Vegapunk hadn't wanted certain research to fall into the World Government's hands, or perhaps he had built two research institutes well beforehand, just in case.
