Background
Kara grew up on Krypton, where she remembered crystal buildings, flying vehicles, and a red-and-blue-leaved Gonglu Tree outside her bedroom. Her happiest memories included her mother calling to her and visiting the laboratory with her father 95 130.
She witnessed Krypton’s destruction and the deaths of her parents in Argo City. Having seen the planet’s crust collapse and lava engulf her home, she swore never to allow another such catastrophe to unfold before her. A spaceship carried her to Earth, but memories of Krypton continued to haunt her dreams 92 117.
On Earth, Kara became Supergirl and protected National City, following the example of her younger cousin, Clark Kent. Her commitment to Earth eventually brought her into conflict with surviving Kryptonians who intended to rebuild their civilization by destroying humanity 115 130.
Appearance
- Hair and eyes: Blond hair and blue eyes; she sometimes wears her hair in a bun 79 92.
- Build: Curvaceous, with a notably large bust and long legs 52 79.
- Costume: A fitted white combat suit and cape. The cape is described as blue during her battle with Namek and red in later scenes 92 93 130.
Personality
Kara is kindhearted and peace-loving, refusing to treat humanity as expendable even when Earth’s destruction would allow Krypton to be rebuilt. She initially rejects the accusation that protecting Earth makes her a traitor, but later openly accepts that label rather than abandon her oath 95 115 117.
Her determination can become recklessness. When the World Engine begins activating, she rushes ahead to confront Zod before Superman has recovered, despite the enemy’s superior strength 115.
Privately, Kara struggles with homesickness, loneliness, and grief for her family. After the Kryptonian conflict, she cries alone and becomes harsher toward criminals. Lynn’s reassurance helps her recognize the value of her work and begin treating Earth as her new home 130 131.
She is frequently exasperated by Lynn’s sexual remarks, staring, and forced summons. Nevertheless, she worries about his safety against Faora and later responds warmly when he offers genuine emotional support 80 96 130 131.
Abilities & Skills
Kryptonian Strength and Durability
Kara possesses strength sufficient to overwhelm The Batman Who Laughs Hulk and withstand ordinary gunfire 51 52 80.
- Catches the Hulk’s punch, breaks his arm, and delivers blows that break the sound barrier 51 52.
- Shrugs off gunmen’s bullets during the Gotham Reservoir operation 80.
- Retains considerable bodily toughness under limited kryptonite exposure: repeated punches leave no visible marks on her face 114.
- Can still be severely injured by stronger Kryptonians; Namek overpowers her, and her unhealed injuries leave her unable to match Faora 92 96.
Flight and Speed
Kara can hover, fly at high speed, and carry another person during flight 79 95 131.
- Transports Lynn to Gotham Reservoir and later from National City to Gotham 79 131.
- Accelerates into a blur when rushing into combat 114 115.
Heat Vision
Kara emits concentrated red beams from her eyes 92 96.
- Blasts The Batman Who Laughs Hulk out of the airship 52.
- Uses heat vision against Namek, Faora, and Lynn 92 96 114.
- Intercepts a curving kryptonite bullet with a beam 114.
- Her beams can be dodged by experienced opponents or cut through by Zod’s kryptonite blade 92 117.
Solar Radiation Absorption
Yellow-sun radiation strengthens Kara’s constitution. Lynn’s sunflower produces light that her cells respond to like sunlight 130.
- The sunflower heals wounds inflicted by Zod’s kryptonite greatsword, as Kara later recalls 130.
- Sunflower light and Lynn’s Ripple Breathing give her a sensation of warmth and solar replenishment 130.
- Her strengthened constitution normally prevents human-made alcohol from making her warm or tipsy 130.
Superhearing
Kara can detect distant voices, gunfire, and combat 79 131.
- Locates fighting at Gotham Reservoir before departing Zeus Securities 79.
- Hears cries for help and Batwoman’s confrontation with Hush and Black Mask upon reaching Gotham 131.
- Can block her hearing; while showering, she misses the events surrounding Batman’s defeat 79.
Other Recorded Abilities
- Super Intelligence: Kara attempts to formulate a plan against Faora, only for the narration to joke that her intelligence recommends using super strength 95.
- Bio-Electric Field: Listed among her skills on Lynn’s NPC panel; its specific applications are not demonstrated in the supplied passages 113.
Weaknesses and External Control
- Kryptonite: Suppresses her powers and causes weakness. Zod’s large blade inflicts much more severe effects than Lynn’s fist-sized piece, damaging her cells and leaving her unable to resist 114 117.
- Mind control: Zod’s Mind Control Device forces her to serve him and command Kryptonian soldiers 113 114.
- Forced summoning: After Lynn marks her with One-Eyed Dragon’s Beeper, he can summon her instantly, including against her wishes 52 79 81 131.
- Memory manipulation: Lynn’s Amnesia Potion makes her and Diana forget the preceding five minutes 81.
