Background / History
Contract to Kill Dio
Lakshya led a mercenary squad hired to kill Dio. Messages later examined by Dio show that Lakshya exchanged identity and payment information with the bounty’s poster, Laka Buqier, who presented himself as a Kakin merchant living in the Minbo Republic. Dio subsequently traced the bounty to the Kakin spy network known as the Zoo 33 46.
Ambush in the Sealed Building
After entering the building, the squad encountered Qi Peixin’s man-eating Grotesque Fish amid Dio’s spreading fog. Lakshya struck down a fish after it killed a female mercenary, then tried unsuccessfully to stop Marol from activating Accompany Me. The ability pulled a fish concealed in the woman’s corpse toward Marol; Lakshya’s aura projectile knocked his deputy out of its bite, saving his life but not his right arm 32.
While Lakshya bandaged Marol, another fish killed the remaining rookie. Despite losing half his squad, Lakshya continued upstairs and restored Marol’s resolve by promising that they would eat hot pot after completing the job 33.
Confrontation with Qi Peixin
Lakshya used Snowfield Silence and delayed Nen Bullets to establish that the automatic fish prioritized high-frequency vibrations. He and Marol followed the school toward the third-floor auction hall, where Marol attached a Thread End to Lakshya as an emergency retrieval measure 36 37.
Lakshya attacked the Leader Catfish’s soft belly, reasoning that Qi Peixin was hiding inside it. When Qi Peixin emerged with a powerful Ko strike, Lakshya could neither dodge nor redistribute his aura quickly enough to defend himself. Dio’s gunfire severed Qi Peixin’s attacking arm, preserving Lakshya as a distraction rather than rescuing him out of goodwill 39.
Under continued pressure, Lakshya baited Qi Peixin into defending the smaller fish with a volley of precisely aimed Nen Bullets. The expenditure visibly depleted his aura, so he approached Dio intending to use him as a shield and kill both opponents after they weakened each other 40.
Failed Escape and Apparent Death
When the Leader Catfish became a frenzied, instinct-driven beast, Lakshya pulled Marol’s Thread End to escape. Dio caught him, locked an arm around his throat, and rode the retrieval back to Marol. Dio then killed Marol with aura-dissolving bullets, prompting Lakshya to pursue him in grief and rage 37 41 42.
The Leader Catfish intercepted Lakshya while Dio hid using Zetsu and Ripple protection. Unaware that the beast now detected Nen aura, Lakshya released more aura in response to its attacks, drawing increasingly violent pursuit. His screams eventually stopped after a tremendous crash 42.
Personality
Lakshya remained analytical even when furious. After the squad’s initial losses, he weighed the cost of using En, considered whether the fog and fish belonged to different Nen users, and conserved his strength for further opponents. He also rejected Marol’s defeatism, expressing confidence that he could win once he located the enemy users 33.
His concern for his teammates appeared in both practical care and emotional reactions: he saved and bandaged Marol, encouraged him to avenge the rookies, and erupted after his deputy’s death. That loyalty did not extend to enemies; against Dio and Qi Peixin, he readily planned to exploit one as a shield and finish off both through a sneak attack 32 33 37 40.
Abilities & Skills
Snowfield Silence
An assassination-oriented Nen ability that creates a spherical field of silence extending five meters from Lakshya’s body 36.
- Suppresses sound within its area, including speech and the noise of his Nen Bullet explosions 36.
- Allows nearby allies, such as Marol, to move within the same silent field 36.
- Does not cancel the high-frequency vibrations produced by a projectile striking a wall; Lakshya exploited these vibrations to distract the fish 36.
- Does not conceal his aura from the Leader Catfish’s altered detection mechanism 39 42.
Nen Bullets
Emission attacks are Lakshya’s specialty. His projectiles can explode, operate with a delay, and deliver accurately placed attacks 36 39 40.
- Rescue and movement: Uses blast shock waves to knock Marol clear of a bite and propel himself away from another attack 32 37.
- Diversion: Fires delayed bullets at walls to redirect vibration-sensitive fish 36.
- Precision attacks: Repeatedly targets the Leader Catfish’s belly and threatens the smaller fish that have consumed the most prey 39 40.
- Limits: The Leader Catfish can swallow or swat aside his bullets. Firing four high-speed projectiles in succession substantially reduces his available aura 37 39 40.
Combat and Nen Control
Lakshya is the forward attacker in his partnership with Marol, handling assassination, direct combat, and dangerous reconnaissance 37.
- Strikes Grotesque Fish with his fist and body, smashing them aside 32 33.
- Uses Ren and Ken, switching to defense when the Leader Catfish charges 32 39.
- Considers En but declines to use it because of its aura consumption 33.
- Accurately judges an enemy’s reach and his own retreat speed through extensive combat experience 39.
- His Ryu is too slow to concentrate sufficient defensive aura around his head before Qi Peixin’s surprise Ko strike lands 39.
Equipment / Items
- Marol’s Thread End — Attached to Lakshya’s clothing as part of their established escape tactic. Tugging it retrieves him to Marol; self-activation works only once within a short period, after which Marol must pull him back manually. It belongs to Marol’s ability, not Lakshya’s 37 41.
Relationships
- Marol — Deputy leader and established combat partner. Marol provides a stationary retreat point while Lakshya takes the frontline risks; Lakshya saves him, encourages him, and grieves violently after his death 32 33 37.
- Mark and Ellie — The two dead rookies whose hot-pot shares Marol vows to eat after completing the mission and avenging them 33.
- Dio — Assassination target and opportunistic battlefield rival. Both attempt to leave the other exposed to Qi Peixin; Dio ultimately exploits Lakshya’s escape route and kills Marol 33 39 40 41 42.
- Qi Peixin — Enemy responsible for the fish attacking his squad. Lakshya probes his ability, targets his hiding place, and forces him to retreat temporarily before being overwhelmed by the Leader Catfish 32 39 40 42.
- Laka Buqier — Bounty poster with whom Lakshya exchanges background information and negotiates payment for the assassination contract 46.
