Background

In his previous life, Xu Zimo was the favored heir of the True Martial Sacred Sect. After Chu Yang cast him into Youlong Ravine, Xu Qingshan’s hair turned white overnight and he withdrew from the world. Xu Zimo survived the fall, acquired opportunities, and cultivated to the Divine Meridian Realm in pursuit of revenge, only to be decisively defeated by Chu Yang’s overwhelming advantages 2.

He is reborn at fifteen in the True Martial Sacred Sect, retaining both his memories and the cultivation sealed within a sphere. Determined to conceal his rebirth, he resolves to rebuild his strength and take control of his own fate rather than become another person’s pawn 1.

His prior engagement to Baili Xiao was a central humiliation of his past life. He had once been infatuated with her, only to realize that she had used his status and the sect’s resources before abandoning him for Chu Yang. In his second life, he rejects the proposed arrangement from the start 35 36.

Xu Zimo is calculating, self-assured, and highly independent. He carefully adjusts his plans to fit circumstances rather than pursuing conflict blindly, as shown when he abandons a direct confrontation with the Chang Family in favor of investigating its ancestor’s history 23. He also refuses to let family arrangements determine his romantic life or future path 36.

He is brutally pragmatic toward threats. Xu Zimo orders killings, cripples enemies’ aptitude, and accepts the deaths of innocents when he considers them necessary to remove future dangers 75 76 208. He openly identifies himself as a bad person rather than pretending to be righteous 208.

Despite this ruthlessness, he respects the choices of those close to him. He accepts Xiao Guizi’s decision to remain with his family instead of continuing to travel with him, and he allows Lin Ruhu to pursue his own martial path 520 1061.
