Background / History
Bennett leads Benny’s Adventuring Team, but his extraordinary bad luck repeatedly turns commissions into failures. Its other members requested leave under various pretexts and eventually moved to other teams. Bennett still believes they are temporarily unavailable and feels responsible for continuing to adventure as their leader. Katheryne avoids telling him the truth, allowing the team to remain registered despite only its leader remaining 42 44.
Although veteran Guild adventurers take good care of him, they are reluctant to accompany him on expeditions. By the time he applies for the domain exploration, he has mostly been adventuring alone 42.
Appearance
- Hair: Short, pale golden hair held down by goggles 41.
- Eyes: Emerald green, described as bright with resolve and tenacity 41 42.
- Bandage: A strip of cloth covers a scrape on his nose 42.
- Clothing and accessories: Wears shorts and carries a compact waist pack with his Pyro Vision attached 42 48.
- Injuries: Frequently bears wounds from adventuring mishaps 42.
Personality
Bennett remains cheerful and passionate about adventure despite repeated injuries and failed treasure hunts. He treats misfortune as preparation for becoming a great adventurer rather than a reason to quit. His excitement before the domain expedition keeps him awake chatting with his dads 42 44.
He is eager for companionship and considerate toward teammates. When Li Qiuzhi offers to accompany him, his dejection immediately gives way to delight. Rather than leave recruitment entirely to his new partner, Bennett searches the tavern for another member himself 42.
Bennett is modest about his contributions, downplaying his support after the Ruin Guard battle. He also blames himself when the ground collapses beneath the group, but encouragement from Fischl and Li Qiuzhi quickly restores his enthusiasm 47 48.
Abilities & Skills
Pyro Manipulation
Bennett channels and controls Pyro through his Vision 42.
- Coats his sword in dense Pyro to light a Torch Mechanism 50.
- Can temporarily place Pyro on another person’s arrow, though at his current strength it lasts only one or two seconds and disperses easily 49.
- Works with Li Qiuzhi’s silent archery to ignite elevated torches that he cannot reach directly 49.
Passion Overload
His Elemental Skill concentrates Pyro and his passion for adventure into his sword. Its effects depend on how much passion he gathers 42.
- Ordinary output: A Pyro-infused sword strike.
- Increased output: Can launch smaller enemies.
- Overflowing output: Produces a stronger attack but blows Bennett away as well.
Fantastic Voyage
His Elemental Burst gently releases Pyro to create an inspiration field that heals people and increases the strength of those within it 42.
- Manifests as a crimson field bearing a thumbs-up design; Bennett activates it with a backflip and a downward foot strike 46.
- Strengthens both Li Qiuzhi and Fischl during the Ruin Guard encounter 46.
- Enables Li Qiuzhi to disable four Ruin Guards with single arrows to their cores before the short-lived field expires 46.
- Requires stored elemental energy, which must be replenished after use 46.
- Does not infuse Li Qiuzhi’s arrows with Pyro during that battle, despite giving them a faint red glow 46.
Adventuring Experience and Resilience
Bennett has extensive combat experience and a body accustomed to frequent falls and injuries 45 46.
- Recognizes that bows are well suited to attacking Ruin Guards’ exposed weak points 46.
- Reacts instinctively to a collapsing floor by deploying his Wind Glider and catching Li Qiuzhi 47.
- Identifies a nearby mechanism as a likely way to open a sealed iron gate, while noting that it might be on the opposite side 48.
- Understands basic Artifact quality and knows that rare Primogems can command at least 100,000 Mora each 48.
Extraordinary Misfortune
Bennett’s bad luck causes seemingly inexplicable accidents and repeatedly prevents him from obtaining treasure. It can also affect companions, although Li Qiuzhi notes that previous teammates have not suffered serious injuries because of it 42.
- Falling stones strike him immediately after he enters the domain 44.
- He trips while rushing toward an Exquisite Chest 45.
- The floor collapses just as the party approaches the unsealed chest; Bennett attributes the accident to his misfortune 47.
- A later fall among rubble accidentally reveals the hidden fourth Torch Mechanism 50.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Pyro Vision — Hangs from his compact waist pack and channels his elemental power 42.
- One-handed sword — A summonable sword resembling dark steel. Li Qiuzhi estimates it to be a two- or three-star weapon, but its actual rarity is not confirmed 46 50.
- Wind Glider — Used to descend into the chest chamber and arrest his fall during the collapse 47.
- Artifacts — Already owns personal Artifacts and therefore leaves the chest’s low-rarity pieces for Li Qiuzhi to equip 49.
- Goggles — Worn over his short hair 41.
Relationships
- Li Qiuzhi — Temporary teammate who admires Bennett’s persistence. Li Qiuzhi offers to adventure with him, uses his support in combat, and reassures him after the collapse; Bennett saves him with his Wind Glider 42 46 47.
- Fischl — Recruited at the Angel’s Share as the team’s third member. She names Bennett her “trusted right hand” after experiencing Fantastic Voyage and refuses to let him blame himself for the party’s predicament 43 46 47.
- Oz — Scouting and combat companion who praises Bennett’s resilience and calls the discovery caused by his fall a blessing in disguise 47 50.
- Katheryne — Guild receptionist who refuses to let him explore the dangerous domain alone. She protects his feelings by withholding the news that his original teammates have left 42 44.
- Benny’s Adventuring Team members — Former companions whom Bennett still regards as temporarily absent; they have actually joined other teams 42 44.
- His dads — Unnamed family figures with whom he stays up talking before the expedition 44.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Forming the Expedition Team
- Applies for the Guild’s domain expedition but is refused permission to go alone 41 42.
- Accepts Li Qiuzhi’s offer to team up, then recruits Fischl at the Angel’s Share 42 43.
- Registers with both teammates and joins Cyrus’s expedition to the Temple of the Thousand Winds 43 44.
Treasure Hunt and Hidden Chamber
- Li Qiuzhi discreetly uses Bennett’s route preferences to choose a different passage, following Herman’s advice to do the opposite of Bennett 45.
- Provides Fantastic Voyage during the battle to unseal an Exquisite Chest, then rescues Li Qiuzhi when the floor gives way 46 47.
- Agrees to let Li Qiuzhi buy the chest’s Primogem 48.
- Helps light the chamber’s Torch Mechanisms with Pyro. After his fall exposes the fourth torch, he ignites it, but the gate remains shut and a Ruin Hunter appears 49 50.
