Chapters 76–101 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 76The advantage is mine

Roland reunited with Illya and reassured Irisviel that he would destroy the Greater Grail rather than sacrifice her. As Roland prepared to confront an approaching enemy, Darnic and Enkidu advanced toward Einzbern Castle to ambush Saber and Berserker's Master.

  • Roland embraced Illya, learned about her affinity for fire, and promised she would have time with both parents.
  • Irisviel told Illya that she might leave for a long time, but Roland promised that she would return.
  • Roland told Irisviel he would destroy the Greater Grail and insisted that she belonged to him, not Einzbern.
  • Roland spotted an approaching threat with the Four-Headed Dragon Statue detector and said he would deal with the attackers before taking Saber's Contract.
  • Darnic used Enkidu's presence-sensing abilities to conceal their approach and led Lancer toward Einzbern Castle to ambush Saber and Berserker's Master.

Ch. 77Darnic Brought It on Himself

Darnic approached the Einzbern castle with Enkidu, planning to take it as a base, but his attempt to use the Sheep Talisman triggered the Self-Geas Scroll’s backlash and knocked him unconscious. Roland emerged and faced Enkidu, breaking the Chains of Heaven before striking him down with a fiery attack.

  • Darnic proposed seizing the castle and explained that he needed magecraft to sustain his sense of self.
  • Darnic used the Sheep Talisman to unleash a soul attack, but the Self-Geas Scroll retaliated and rendered him unconscious.
  • Roland emerged from the castle and asked Enkidu to switch sides, but Enkidu refused and chose to protect Darnic.
  • Enkidu summoned the Chains of Heaven to bind Roland, but Roland broke them effortlessly.
  • Roland struck Enkidu into the ground with a fierce crimson flame.

Ch. 78My position remained unshaken!

Roland defeated Enkidu, uncovered Darnic’s memories through the Sheep Talisman, and learned that Darnic’s goal in the Holy Grail War was not the Grail. He spared Darnic and sent him a cryptic message, while Darnic resolved to merge with Enkidu and claim the talisman’s power.

  • Roland used the Chains of Heaven’s weakness against him to strike Enkidu and expose the Sheep Talisman on Darnic’s chest.
  • Roland searched Darnic’s memories through the talisman and learned the secrets of the Third Holy Grail War and Darnic’s true objective.
  • Roland left the talisman with Darnic, told Enkidu to take his Master away, and asked him to pass on a message.
  • Enkidu carried Darnic to their base, where Darnic woke and confirmed that the talisman remained in place.
  • Darnic interpreted Roland’s message as permission to proceed and resolved to merge with Enkidu to claim the talisman’s power.

Ch. 79I'll Set You Straight!

Saber and Lancelot fought to a standstill before agreeing to a temporary truce and discussing their wishes. When Saber said he should never have drawn the sword to become king, Lancelot erupted in fury and charged again.

  • Lancelot recognized Saber's strength and pressed him with a series of attacks, but Saber used Mana Burst and Invisible Air to deflect them.
  • Saber proposed stopping their fight before either released a Noble Phantasm, noting that Roland likely meant no harm to his captured Master.
  • Lancelot agreed to a temporary truce and asked Saber what wish kept him from accepting things as they were.
  • Saber said he wanted to save Britain and prevent its tragedy from happening again, and Lancelot offered his support for his king's choice.
  • Saber said he should never have drawn the sword, and Lancelot flew into a rage, accusing him of denying King Arthur's deeds before charging again.

Ch. 80The rampaging Stand

Saber and Lancelot fought over her wish to change Britain, but Lancelot understood what she was truly fighting for and let her strike him down. As Gilgamesh confronted Saber, Roland arrived as her new Master, with a berserk Killer Queen ready to attack.

  • Lancelot attacked Saber after rejecting her plan to find another King Arthur, and they clashed over whether she should continue denying herself for Britain.
  • Saber and Lancelot unleashed their full strength, but Lancelot redirected his fatal blow and allowed her Sacred Sword to pierce his Spirit Core.
  • As he vanished, Lancelot urged Saber to remember what she was fighting for and promised to lend her his sword if she chose to persist.
  • Gilgamesh appeared and taunted the silent Saber, who sensed that the other party to her Contract had changed.
  • Roland emerged, raised his Command Spells, and declared himself Saber's new Master after Berserker's death.
  • Killer Queen materialized behind Roland, its transformation complete as it went berserk.

Ch. 82The law of victory has been decided

Roland faced Gilgamesh alone while Saber withdrew, then embraced Killer Queen and invoked its power as Gilgamesh’s unerring spear struck. The spear’s attack abruptly stopped, leaving Roland’s new ability poised to decide the battle.

  • Killer Queen remained mostly dormant after gaining the Holy Lord’s soul, while Roland found that his own body had become tougher than his Stand.
  • Gilgamesh mocked Roland and declared that Saber was too injured and shaken to challenge him.
  • Roland told Saber to go protect Irisviel and ordered him to stay out of the fight.
  • Gilgamesh summoned the Magic Spear that never missed and launched it at Roland’s heart.
  • Roland abandoned his defenses, embraced Killer Queen, and declared that the law of victory had been decided as the spear’s whistle and ringing ceased.

Ch. 83Killer Queen Fourth Bomb

Roland revealed Killer Queen Fourth Bomb, which trapped Gilgamesh in a personal loop that erased the results of his attacks. After overpowering Gilgamesh, Roland realized his Stand fulfilled one condition for reaching Heaven, though he still needed a ritual to dominate the world.

  • Saber watched in disbelief as Gilgamesh's crimson Magic Spear vanished before reaching Roland, leaving him unharmed.
  • Roland taunted Gilgamesh and challenged him to flee, but the spear reappeared from a golden ripple in the Gate of Babylon.
  • Roland commanded Gilgamesh to get down, and Gilgamesh crashed into the ground with an unexplained wound on his back.
  • Gilgamesh unleashed dozens of Noble Phantasms, but they vanished before they could hit Roland as Killer Queen approached.
  • Roland explained that Killer Queen Fourth Bomb trapped Gilgamesh in a personal loop, reversing events whenever his attacks reached their results.
  • Roland recognized that Killer Queen fulfilled one condition for reaching Heaven, while he still needed a ritual to dominate the world.

Ch. 84Gate of Babylon with a twenty-meter radius

Roland awakened Killer Queen’s Fourth Bomb, which rewound time and turned Gilgamesh’s attacks back on him. Gilgamesh launched a close-range Gate of Babylon barrage at Roland, leaving the battle’s outcome unresolved.

  • Roland realized he wanted the chance to reverse the past and change a hopeless situation, and Killer Queen fully assimilated Yoshikage Kira.
  • Roland explained that the Fourth Bomb rewound time and that attacks Gilgamesh had already landed would still return to strike him.
  • Gilgamesh was hit by repeated explosions but refused to accept defeat and surrounded Roland with golden portals.
  • Gilgamesh unleashed a Gate of Babylon attack within a twenty-meter radius around Roland.

Ch. 85Ea

Roland used Killer Queen to erase Gilgamesh’s Noble Phantasm barrage and its magical cost, forcing Gilgamesh to rely on an elixir of immortality to survive the counterattack. Recognizing Roland as a divine being from another world, Gilgamesh drew Ea to challenge his power.

  • Gilgamesh unleashed a barrage of Noble Phantasms at Roland, but Roland declared Killer Queen’s power and made the weapons and their magical cost vanish.
  • Gilgamesh ate an herb from his treasury, then endured a barrage of unseen attacks as the herb repeatedly restored him from fatal injuries.
  • After the attacks stopped, Gilgamesh recognized Roland as a noble god from another world and admitted he would not submit without a fight.
  • Gilgamesh drew Ea and began pouring magical energy into it, preparing to test the divine weapon against Roland’s rules.

Ch. 86This was my escape route all along!

Roland endured Gilgamesh’s compressed strike from Ea, which was turned back on Gilgamesh and severed his arm. Gilgamesh fled aboard Vimana, but Killer Queen attacked him before he escaped with Tokiomi; Roland then explained Killer Queen’s evolved Fourth Bomb and turned to guide Saber.

  • Gilgamesh compressed Ea’s power into a space-cutting slash and struck at Roland, but the attack’s effects were reversed and Gilgamesh lost his right arm.
  • Gilgamesh refused Roland’s offer to spare him in exchange for his treasures and launched himself into the sky to escape.
  • Gilgamesh used a summoned hammer to propel himself away, then summoned Vimana and tried to flee with the Chains of Heaven.
  • Killer Queen pursued Gilgamesh and fired a beam, forcing him to call on Tokiomi; Gilgamesh and Vimana vanished before the attack hit.
  • Roland explained Killer Queen’s evolved Fourth Bomb, Egoism, and its ability to rewind actions that threatened him.
  • Roland dismissed Killer Queen and turned to the bewildered Saber, intending to help him realize his potential.

Ch. 87My heart and deeds are as clear as a mirror

Roland challenged Saber to reconsider why he fought for Britain, leading Saber to remember that he had wanted to protect the smiles of the people living in the present. Meanwhile, Tokiomi Tohsaka confronted Kariya Matou at the Tohsaka residence, where Kariya revealed a monstrous new form and attacked with insects that consumed fire.

  • Roland argued that Saber needed to distinguish between protecting Britain as a means and as an end, and Saber recalled that he had chosen to protect the people’s smiles.
  • Tokiomi Tohsaka learned that Archer had gone to the Einzberns while Saber and Berserker fought in the forest, then gave Kirei Kotomine a Mercury Sword and instructions for the Mana Furnace.
  • A swarm of insects breached the Tohsaka residence’s barrier, and Tokiomi went to confront the intruder while Kirei stayed behind.
  • Tokiomi attacked Kariya Matou with flames, but Kariya’s insects absorbed the fire and burst against Tokiomi’s defenses.
  • Kariya discarded his robe to reveal emerald scales, claws, and a monstrous face, then greeted Tokiomi as someone returned from hell.

Ch. 88It was all Tokiomi's fault!

Kariya Matou fought Tokiomi Tohsaka in the Tohsaka Workshop, and their battle destroyed much of the residence when Kariya unleashed a fatal burst of flames. Kirei Kotomine then revealed his betrayal and moved to kill Tokiomi, but Gilgamesh appeared in a wounded state after Tokiomi summoned him.

  • Tokiomi Tohsaka condemned Kariya Matou for his choices, prompting Kariya to charge at him and blame him for everything.
  • Tokiomi used gems and the Workshop’s defenses against Kariya, but Kariya broke through the barriers and overwhelmed him with physical strength and fire.
  • Tokiomi trapped Kariya with chains and pierced him with a Flame Sword, but Kariya caught the blade and drew it into his body.
  • Kariya unleashed a massive explosion that destroyed much of the Tohsaka Residence and the Mana Furnace, while Tokiomi survived among the ruins.
  • Kirei Kotomine approached Tokiomi with a dagger and declared that it was time for his master to die.
  • Tokiomi summoned Gilgamesh with a Command Spell, but Gilgamesh appeared badly wounded and missing an arm.

Ch. 89Tokiomi's death

Gilgamesh refused to help Tokiomi Tohsaka when Kirei Kotomine betrayed him, and Kirei killed his Master in a fervent pursuit of pleasure. Gilgamesh then made a new contract with Kirei and departed for the Church, leaving Kirei to follow.

  • Gilgamesh appeared beside the badly injured Tokiomi Tohsaka and learned that Kirei Kotomine had betrayed him.
  • Gilgamesh mocked Tokiomi and refused to protect him as Kirei approached.
  • Tokiomi tried to use a Command Spell, but Gilgamesh severed his wrist before he could act.
  • Kirei declared that he had found salvation and killed Tokiomi with the Mercury Sword.
  • Kirei savored his pleasure before Gilgamesh formed a new contract with him and headed toward the Church.

Ch. 90An unexpected new Contract Spirit

Roland discovered that Tokiomi Tohsaka had become a Contract Spirit, stored him in the Key of All Spirits, and used the resulting draw to obtain a fragment of Enrico Pucci. He left ready to see what would happen when the fragment met a compatible person.

  • Roland returned to the Tohsaka residence and found that Tokiomi Tohsaka qualified as a Contract Spirit.
  • Roland examined Tokiomi Tohsaka's Contract Spirit and judged its drawbacks too dangerous to accept.
  • Roland contributed Tokiomi Tohsaka to the Key of All Spirits to gain a draw.
  • Roland chose the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure world, hoping to learn about the ritual for reaching Heaven.
  • Roland drew a broken Contract Spirit Fragment-Enrico Pucci.

Ch. 91A trustworthy friend

Roland examined the defective Contract Spirit Fragment of Enrico Pucci and recognized its potential to fit Kirei Kotomine. After Risei Kotomine transferred his stored Command Spells to Kirei, Roland offered him the fragment, and Kirei accepted it, awakening with a fervent resolve to follow Roland and help him reach Heaven.

  • Roland read the incomplete Enrico Pucci Contract Spirit Fragment’s requirements and realized it could suit Kirei Kotomine.
  • Risei Kotomine told Kirei that he knew of Tokiomi Tohsaka’s death, then transferred his hoarded Command Spells to his son.
  • Roland stopped Kirei from transferring those Command Spells to him and offered Kirei the fragment instead.
  • Kirei accepted the fragment, which merged into his body and left him unconscious.
  • Kirei awoke without his former emptiness and vowed to master the fragment and ensure Roland awakened.

Ch. 92I'm already invincible!

Roland reflected on the danger of possessing a Contract Spirit, while Kayneth, Waver, and Iskandar prepared to answer Darnic’s challenge. In the mountains, Iskandar unleashed Ionioi Hetairoi against Enkidu, who answered with the full power of Enuma Elish.

  • Roland considered how a Contract Spirit’s knowledge could alter a possessed person, then expected Darnic to resolve the remaining Servant slots soon.
  • Waver told Iskandar and Kayneth that Darnic had formally challenged them to a battle between Servants and a separate duel between Masters.
  • Kayneth accepted the challenge, and Waver chose to accompany him despite suspecting Darnic’s plan was a trap.
  • Iskandar traveled to the designated mountain battlefield and met Enkidu, who warned that Darnic would kill Kayneth.
  • Iskandar summoned Ionioi Hetairoi, and Enkidu invoked Enuma Elish, unleashing immense magical energy from the desert landscape.

Ch. 93The flower of hope

Darnic ambushed Kayneth and Waver, destroyed much of Kayneth’s Magic Crest, and stole his soul, leaving Kayneth mortally wounded. After Kayneth died, Waver refused to abandon the Holy Grail War and renewed his pact with Rider.

  • Darnic’s Homunculi attacked Kayneth and Waver, but Kayneth’s Volumen Hydrargyrum cut them down while shielding Waver.
  • Darnic used the Sheep Talisman to freeze Kayneth and Waver, damaged Kayneth’s Magic Crest through his own Crest, and swallowed Kayneth’s soul.
  • Waver recovered enough to strike Darnic with a protective charm, while Kayneth briefly rallied and forced Darnic to retreat.
  • Kayneth ordered Waver to cut off the arm bearing his Crest, then urged him to keep moving forward before dying.
  • Rider returned to find Kayneth dead and advised Waver to leave, but Waver renewed his pact with Rider and vowed to continue the campaign.

Ch. 94A reenactment of a tragedy from the Age of Gods

Enkidu unleashed the Planet’s Breath and destroyed Iskandar’s army and Reality Marble, but abruptly vanished after sensing a presence in Fuyuki City. At Ryuudou Temple, Darnic trapped the weakened Enkidu with an Age of Gods curse and prepared to fuse with him, while Roland set the final stage of his plan in motion.

  • Enkidu’s Planet’s Breath erased Iskandar’s army and shattered Ionioi Hetairoi, but Iskandar survived by evading the attack in the Gordius Wheel.
  • As Iskandar charged again, Enkidu sensed something in Fuyuki City, vanished, and told Rider he had escaped with his life.
  • Darnic revealed that Enkidu was now his only Master and used an Age of Gods curse to weaken him, intending to merge with him and separate his own soul from his body.
  • Enkidu looked toward Fuyuki City and said goodbye to Gilgamesh, who sensed him and rushed out of the casino without collecting his winnings.
  • Roland arrived at the casino, took Gilgamesh’s winnings, confirmed that matters at Ryuudou Temple were settled, and ordered Zouken Matou to be notified.

Ch. 95An Outrage Before Gilgamesh's Eyes

Roland brought Irisviel to Ryuudou Temple to prepare her to activate the Dress of Heaven, revealing that the Greater Grail had developed desires of its own. At the temple, Darnic forced Enkidu to merge with him, and Kirei used Command Spells to make Gilgamesh watch helplessly as Enkidu died and then ordered Gilgamesh to kill himself.

  • Roland told Irisviel to use the Dress of Heaven to activate the Greater Grail, and explained that Berserker’s soul had already been transferred and the Grail now had desires of its own.
  • Gilgamesh broke through Darnic’s barrier and found Darnic using his Command Spells to merge his soul with Enkidu.
  • Gilgamesh tried to reach Enkidu, but Kirei commanded him to remain still and watch.
  • Enkidu comforted Gilgamesh before his body shattered, and Gilgamesh swore to kill Kirei.
  • Kirei used his third Command Spell to order Gilgamesh to kill himself, and Gilgamesh stabbed himself through the heart as Rider arrived.

Ch. 96The perfect combination

Roland faced Waver, Rider, and the surviving Gilgamesh after Lancer and Archer were seemingly killed, while Gilgamesh and Iskandar formed an alliance against him. Iskandar charged with an army armed by Gate of Babylon, but Roland revealed that Killer Queen had already marked them all.

  • Roland emerged with Saber and Caster and told Waver that human greed and resentment had caused the deaths of Lancer and his Master.
  • Gilgamesh revealed that he had survived his apparent suicide by using a dagger to sever his Contract before his Spirit Core was destroyed.
  • Gilgamesh proposed an alliance with Iskandar, and Waver agreed that Rider should gather every possible source of strength.
  • Iskandar summoned Ionioi Hetairoi, and Gilgamesh supplied its thirty thousand soldiers with Noble Phantasms from Gate of Babylon.
  • Iskandar led his empowered army in a charge against Roland, who revealed that Killer Queen had already marked everyone who became hostile to him.

Ch. 97Indomitable! Invincible! The strongest!

Roland used Killer Queen’s Fourth Bomb to devastate Iskandar’s army and defeat the King of Conquerors. As Iskandar disappeared, Roland challenged Gilgamesh to face him next.

  • Medea and Saber watched as Iskandar led the Ionioi Hetairoi’s charge against Roland, with Waver choosing to fight beside his king.
  • Roland’s power made the army’s attacks vanish and caused soldiers to die; the charge then returned to its starting point with the legion greatly reduced.
  • Roland unleashed a series of fatal effects that destroyed the Ionioi Hetairoi, while Iskandar praised the battle and prepared a final charge.
  • Killer Queen’s Fourth Bomb destroyed Gordius Wheel and the Divine Oxen, and Iskandar’s last attack failed as lightning killed him.
  • Iskandar dissolved before Waver’s tear-filled eyes, and Roland pointed at Gilgamesh and challenged him next.

Ch. 98The End Sword Enki

Gilgamesh revealed that Enkidu’s death and Darnic’s plan to use Enkidu’s body had filled him with hatred for the city and civilization, and he unveiled a Noble Phantasm he believed could defeat Roland. As Napishtim’s Raging Waves filled the sky with a deluge, Roland watched Saber brace for the attack.

  • Roland read Gilgamesh’s murderous intent and realized he had retreated earlier to sort out his feelings about Enkidu.
  • Gilgamesh explained that he could accept Enkidu’s death but not Darnic’s attempt to use Enkidu’s body, and declared his hatred for Darnic, the city, and civilization.
  • Roland ordered Saber to kill Gilgamesh, and Saber charged through a barrage of Noble Phantasms and struck Gilgamesh’s back.
  • Gilgamesh drew the bow Enki, fired an arrow into the paving tiles of Ryuudou Temple, and activated Napishtim’s Raging Waves.
  • A deluge blotted out the sky as Roland watched Saber grip his Sacred Sword and prepare for the calamity.

Ch. 99You're the one spying on me!

Saber defeated Gilgamesh with Excalibur after Gilgamesh unleashed a world-threatening flood, leaving Roland and his allies to confront the awakened Greater Grail. Roland discovered that Angra Mainyu had turned the Grail into a living trap, and planned to force it out of its underground stronghold.

  • Gilgamesh unleashed the Great Waves of Nabistin, but Saber released Excalibur and erased the flood, defeating Gilgamesh.
  • Gilgamesh vanished after warning Roland that they would meet again, and Roland announced that they still had to fight the Greater Grail before making a wish.
  • Zouken Matou entered the Great Hollow and used his collected human souls to awaken the False Holy Grail, but the Grail came alive and attacked him.
  • Roland explained that Angra Mainyu had twisted the Greater Grail’s wishes and was using its connections to spy on them.
  • Roland revealed that the Great Hollow had become Angra Mainyu’s home ground and proposed smashing its underground lair to force it into the open.
  • Roland called on Ishtar to help carry out his plan.

Ch. 100The Greater Grail Descends

Angra Mainyu used the Grail’s power and the Ten Talismans to transform the Greater Grail into a living mass of evil, but Rin Tohsaka and Ishtar exposed it by splitting Mount Enzou apart. Roland entered the black mud and demanded a wish from the Grail’s uncontaminated magical energy, awakening the Rat Talisman.

  • Angra Mainyu used limitless magical energy and the Rat Talisman to animate the Greater Grail and expand his body.
  • Rin Tohsaka resolved to destroy Mount Enzou, and Ishtar spent their gems to fire her mountain-splitting Noble Phantasm.
  • Ishtar’s attack leveled Mount Enzou and exposed the living Greater Grail, which released waves of black mud.
  • Saber sensed the Grail’s immense malice as Angra Mainyu poured black mud across the land and threatened the Servants.
  • Roland stepped into the black mud and addressed the Grail’s uncontaminated magical energy, causing the black-and-white Talisman to rotate.

Ch. 101A hero couldn't flee in the face of battle

Roland used the Tiger Talisman to separate Angra Mainyu’s pure Holy Grail essence, then wished for salvation and began materializing Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern. While Roland’s transformation continued, Saber, Medea, and Ishtar fought Angra Mainyu and his corrupted Servants, and Saber unleashed the Sacred Sword’s full power against him.

  • Angra Mainyu’s black mud split away from a golden Holy Grail, and Roland explained that the Tiger Talisman had divided Angra Mainyu’s essence into yin and yang.
  • Roland wished for salvation for himself alone, and Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern appeared to reproduce the Third True Magic and give his soul a body.
  • Angra Mainyu’s mud could not interfere with Roland’s wish, so he sent corrupted Servants against Saber while Medea and Ishtar fought them and severed two contracts.
  • Saber joined the battle, defended against Angra Mainyu’s attacks, and charged toward the altar at the giant beast’s head.
  • Saber released the Sacred Sword with the support of seven heroes, and its radiance engulfed Angra Mainyu.
