Power Progression
Shen Qi’s training progresses from sensing type energy to opening an energy chakra, controlling energy, and coordinating with Pokémon. An open chakra is the prerequisite for learning Trainer skills 17 26. He later develops increasingly precise coordination, learns both game-granted and independently reconstructed skills, and expands into Life Infinity Energy and Mega Evolution-related training 134 413 467 517 593.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vague energy perception | 4 5 | Can faintly feel energy near Lilligant, but cannot clearly identify, analyze, or control it. |
| Clear Normal-type Energy Perception | 7 8 | Eating Chansey’s unusual egg completes a breakthrough supported by diligent practice. Normal-type energy becomes his reference for recognizing other types. His teacher later confirms his mastery of the basics 17. |
| Initial Grass-type Energy Perception | 13 | Faintly senses Lilligant’s Synthesis while chasing her through the mountain roads. |
| Initial Psychic-type Energy Perception | 22 | A powerful Psychic-type storm forcibly brings unfamiliar energy into his sensory range. This perception is initially unstable. |
| Open, stabilized energy chakra | 26 | Uses Energy Comprehension Card 1 to sharpen Normal-, Psychic-, and Grass-type perception and stabilize their combination. He also suspects Celebi’s vitality helped deepen his Grass-type perception. |
| Developing Normal-type energy control | 32 | Practices drawing in and expending Normal-type energy by restoring the Adaptive Tire’s durability; his repair speed improves. |
| Initial Normal-type Energy Coordination | 34 | Fits his energy into Chansey’s Mega Kick pathways during the Berry-field rescue, strengthening the move. This is a foundation for Trainer skills, not an independent skill. |
| Basic control of three types confirmed | 46 | His school assessment verifies basic control of Normal-, Grass-, and Psychic-type energy and an open chakra. He is the only student in first-year Class A confirmed to have opened one. |
| Racing-oriented Style Technique | 56 | Demonstrates a distinctive technique involving adding a spoiler to a vehicle. Kadabra recognizes his achievement and awards him a Poké Ball rack. |
| Player status panel and Wild Princess | 70 | Player Level 3; Normal-type Energy Coordination at 63% and newly mastered Grass-type coordination at 13%. A Skill Card grants Wild Princess at 10% proficiency. |
| Dangerous Fire- and Rock-type training | 71 76 | Activating Wild Princess without perceiving its required types causes internal injuries. He subsequently conducts controlled attempts with Chansey prepared to use Heal Pulse. |
| Increased mental resilience | 89 | Special Defense rises from Weedle level to Jigglypuff level after prolonged training, unpleasant eggs, and painful treatments. |
| Player Level 5 | 108 | Reaches Level 5 after previously reaching Level 4; approximately 80% of the Physique Card’s stored energy has transferred into his body. |
| More stable Wild Princess activation | 109 | Wild Princess reaches 21% proficiency. He can apply its speed boost to an eligible target or himself, though its strength and duration remain inconsistent. |
| Four documented coordination proficiencies | 148 | Normal reaches 85%, Grass 41%, and Fire 43%. Fire-type practice begins interfering with Grass-type perception and control. |
| Expanded game-skill repertoire | 195 | Normal coordination reaches 91%, Fire 61%, Grass 41%, and Rock 31%; Poison and Flying are each 10%. Nene Ninja Technique is at 36%, and a Skill Card grants Alliance Attack at 10%. |
| Eight coordinated energy types | 242 | Coordinates Normal, Grass, Rock, Fire, Poison, Flying, Psychic, and Electric. Psychic coordination is 21%, Electric 5%; Water and Bug are faintly perceptible. Jixiang identifies his dependence on an energy-filtering item as a weakness. |
| Post–Meteor Falls improvements | 316 | Special Defense rises from 25 to 30 and Speed from 30 to 40; HP also improves. Special Attack remains 25 and physical defense remains Magikarp class. Alliance Attack reaches 23%; Ground joins Water and Bug among newly perceived types awaiting coordination training. |
| Ghost-type perception established | 412 | Has recently mastered Ghost-type energy. Lorelei avoids forcibly awakening Ice-type perception immediately afterward because externally induced breakthroughs too close together could destabilize his chakra. |
| Normal-type coordination at 100%; Dismantle learned | 413 | Uses Chansey-related game items with the Love Savings Bank and reaches the ordinary maximum for Normal-type coordination. Independently reconstructs Dismantle, initially at 5% proficiency. |
| Shadow Hold acquired | 443 | Draws a Shadow move that prevents an opponent from switching Pokémon. Testing it produces an excited state and sharpened perception. |
| Fourteen mastered types; Dragon perception | 491 | Equipment compatibility testing records fourteen mastered energy types, with Fighting the fourteenth. Dragon has newly entered his perceptual range. |
| Explosion Button acquired | 498 | Gains an indiscriminate explosive attack costing half the selected allied user’s HP. |
| Ground and Ghost coordination above 50% | 511 | Repeatedly recharging Jet Energy raises both proficiencies beyond 50%. |
| Life Infinity Energy training | 517 | Trains Life Infinity Energy Coordination alongside Florges’s Eternal Flower Form, using proficiency cards because progress is exceptionally slow. |
| Broader coordination and Saffron assessment preparation | 521 | Psychic coordination is 61%, Bug 62%, and Poison 83%. Among the types relevant to the Psychic assessment, Steel and Dark remain outside his perception. |
| Saffron Gym Gold Badge | 526 532 533 | Scores 89 in the written subject and 84 in practical manipulation, then passes the battle assessment. His tactics are judged capable of threatening T3 experts. |
| Player Level 23 and mental-stat breakthroughs | 593 | After returning to the Normal World Line at Level 22, reaches Level 23. Special Attack rises from 25 to 35 and Special Defense from 30 to 35 through repeated Life Infinity Energy expenditure and recovery. |
| Further offensive and disruptive skills | 600 609 | Possesses Dark Rush, Dark Sucker Punch, and newly drawn Confused State, the latter starting at 10%. Detached body parts can deliver Dark Sucker Punch, though remote control has limits. |
Background / History
Before transmigrating, Shen Qi worked as a delivery driver for the Seafood Company and had extensive experience driving inexpensive vans. He arrives in the Pokémon world in the body of a fifteen-year-old student, absorbs the body’s memories, and discovers a text-based Pokémon romance game available to him 1 3.
His parents are fossil enthusiasts who left him money before traveling around the world to excavate fossils; they are effectively unreachable. He lives alone and initially has 20,000 b in savings. To avoid relying entirely on that money, he transports ingredients and produce from Island 6 to an upscale resort on Island 5 3 15.
His former driving experience also includes privately modified transport vehicles operated during a period of looser regulation. He attributes his deeply ingrained high-speed maneuvers and ability to deal with inspections to those years hauling freight 51 359.
Despite traveling extensively, he intends to keep returning to Island 6. He describes a rhythm of competing and adventuring elsewhere, then recuperating at home, as his preferred way of life 250.

World-line travel
Shen Qi eventually travels from the Normal World Line to the Mega Evolution World Line. The local Shen Qi had attended Kumquat High School rather than Pokémon High School, formed a Pokémon bond during his first year, and coordinated six energy types by graduation. That counterpart disappeared after going to Ruins Valley and had been presumed dead for three years when the arriving Shen Qi identifies himself to the Security Bureau 443 444 445.
Fingerprint comparison supports his identity, while he explains gaps in his knowledge as the consequences of surviving in isolation. Privately, he knows that he is not the local counterpart and later tells Wingull that the native Shen Qi had already been dead for three years when he crossed over 444 526.
The alternate counterpart’s disappearance strongly affected Wude, who believed he had indirectly caused it and searched Ruins Valley himself. Shen Qi’s apparent return helps restore Wude’s spirits 452.
Appearance
- Initially scrawny: After recovering from the Ruins Valley incident, he notices that his body has gained some flesh and is no longer as thin 29.
- Frequent signs of exhaustion: Night deliveries and racing leave him pale and dark-eyed. His grin combined with dark circles is compared to a vampire’s appearance 4 8.
- Improving stamina: Chansey’s nutritious eggs, and possibly her therapeutic massages, help him become sturdier and less easily winded 20 46.
- Growing physical strength: Lorelei later notices increased strength in his legs, waist, and arms during a period of weighted training 401.
- Travel-worn presentation: In the Mega Evolution World Line, his cheap clothing, worn backpack, and travel-worn appearance make him look like a young man from an impoverished area seeking work in Saffron City 446 447.
Personality
Shen Qi is practical about money and treats his own training as more important than the advantages supplied by the game. Because ordinary Pokémon knowledge is already familiar to him, he devotes much of his study time to energy communication. He persists despite lacking exceptional natural aptitude, even forcing himself to eat Chansey’s unpleasant eggs for their benefits 5 7 15 17.
He uses the game’s emotional feedback to plan conversations, but recognizes that affection cannot be built through teasing alone. With Lilligant, he protects her secrets, takes her racing ambitions seriously, and insists that actions must support his promises. When arranging her challenge against Shan Sheng, he considers safety more important than winning 3 18 37 41 45.
His caution has limits when a relationship is at stake: he pushes the Little Sheep dangerously hard to catch Lilligant and clear up a misunderstanding. His humor is often mischievous or self-deprecating, and his suppressed laughter repeatedly frightens nearby Bellsprout and Oddish 11 14 40.
He regards strength as the means to choose his own life rather than as an end limited to competition. With sufficient ability, he believes he can freely decide whether to battle, race, or travel 71. His competitive instincts nevertheless become intense behind the wheel, where he is willing to risk mechanical failure to challenge his limits 277.
His affection for Pokémon coexists with a growing respect for their independence. After becoming accustomed to a lively household, he feels lonely when they leave, but recognizes that Pokémon have their own activities and cannot remain beside their Trainers constantly. He and Lilligant eventually recognize that their emotional and racing partnership has become overly dependent 140 159.
Shen Qi can be calculating when protecting important secrets. He conceals his transmigrator identity, carefully manages how he explains game-derived knowledge, and acknowledges the shrewdness acquired across two lives. He also uses feigned innocence, social insight, and improvised acting to influence others or conceal dangerous reactions 123 332 473.
His concern for Pokémon High School develops into a major responsibility. He asks Principal Gui to reject sponsorship from islanders who cannot comfortably afford it, later prioritizes the school’s succession over ambitious racing targets, and resolves to let the retiring principal see the school and Pokémon Resort flourish 159 695 735.
Abilities & Skills
Text-Based Romance Game
Shen Qi can interact with Pokémon emotional storylines through a game interface that supplies narration, messages, progress indicators, and rewards 1 3 4.
- Emotional narration: Reveals a Pokémon’s feelings and concerns, helping him distinguish rejection from fear, embarrassment, or grief 4 5.
- Direct communication: Allows him to exchange thoughts with Pokémon whose scenarios he has activated. It compensates for his inability to understand ordinary Pokémon speech 4 11 18.
- Limited range: Messages only work when sufficiently close; he must physically pursue Lilligant to explain their misunderstanding 11 12.
- Fluctuating progress: Relationship percentages can decrease. Shen Qi explicitly distinguishes earning trust from permanently clearing a game dungeon 5.
- Milestone rewards: Supply items for training, inspection, memory viewing, and vehicle modification 3 8 15 40 41.
- Completed scenarios: Lilligant’s completed scenario enables telepathic conversation, and its progress later becomes Compatibility 71 118.
- Player status: A later interface displays his level, health, comparative combat ratings, skills, and proficiency percentages 70.
- Player-targeted rewards: Skill Cards and proficiency cards can apply to Shen Qi himself. Game-granted skills can be activated through interface icons, whereas skills he learns in reality still require actual execution 70 109 413.
- Long-distance communication: He later describes a Style Technique as extending the range of communication with his Pokémon 515.
| Pokémon / Scenario | Emotional storyline | Difficulty | Latest documented progress or development |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lilligant | Speedy Hot Girl | Medium 3 | Previously 73%; later reaches full completion, enables telepathic conversation, and converts to Compatibility 47 71 118 |
| Chansey | Crazy Quack, also rendered The Mad Quack | Hard 15 | Partnered at 51%; reaches 61%, then receives fourth-stage rewards 40 58 71 |
| Dodo / Porygon | The End of the Android | Not specified | 50%; third-stage reward grants another Memory Image 147 |
| Florges | Madam, Please Behave Yourself | Not specified | 34% during preparations for Hoenn travel; later final settlement grants the player skill Shadow Hold 285 498 |
| Oricorio | I'm a Pigeon Fancier | Not specified | 23% after accepting shelter and being allowed space to settle in 576 |
| Meowstic | Dark Night King | Not specified | Makes progress after Shen Qi explains his Dark Rush training 653 |
| Deerling | Four Seasons God | Not specified | Completed after mastering moves of ten types; unlocks Four Seasons God-Revival 735 |
| Journey scenario | The Journey Home | Not specified | 91% while Shen Qi prepares to leave the Mega Evolution World Line 519 |
Energy Perception and Control
Shen Qi initially develops perception and basic control of Normal-, Grass-, and Psychic-type energy, later expanding his chakra across many more types 26 46 242 491.
- Uses Normal-type energy to restore the Adaptive Tire, turning maintenance into repeated control practice 32 38.
- Activates an ordinary Poké Ball by injecting energy into its pathways after learning how the device works 39.
- Begins studying introductory Trainer-skill textbooks after opening his chakra; he subsequently develops Style Techniques and learns Dismantle independently 45 56 413.
- Must rest after major breakthroughs or prolonged practice because the effort causes mental fatigue 26 32.
- Experiences interference between types, particularly as improved Fire-type coordination disrupts his Grass-type perception and control 148.
- Uses filtering equipment to isolate types during training, but Jixiang warns that habitual reliance on such assistance leaves his unaided discrimination and control insufficiently developed 242.
- Cannot safely force repeated externally assisted awakenings without allowing his chakra to consolidate 412.
- Reaches fourteen mastered energy types and newly perceives Dragon-type energy during Mega Evolution equipment testing 491.
- Develops Life Infinity Energy Coordination, whose repeated use and replenishment later strengthen his mental attributes 517 593.
- In the Normal World Line, can inject Mega Evolution Infinity Energy into suitable stone ore, which otherwise contains little of that energy in the local environment 575.
Energy Coordination
Shen Qi can reinforce a Pokémon’s move by aligning his energy with its intentions and move pathways 34.
- First succeeds while supporting Chansey’s Mega Kick against flood debris 34.
- Strengthens and stabilizes the Pokémon’s existing move rather than producing an attack independently 34.
- His initial boost is modest and cannot overcome the sheer quantity of mud and sand 34.
- Uses Skill Analytic Glasses and Jixiang’s demonstrations to separate a move’s effects, directing energy toward useful components while holding others in reserve 134 142.
- Applies this precision to racing buffs: horsepower corresponds to maximum speed, while torque governs low-speed acceleration, so increasing both is not always efficient 134.
- At 91% Normal-type proficiency, can smooth Chansey’s rampaging move effects with practiced ease 195.
- At 100%, can extend Chansey’s explosive output into a stable, sustained effect 413 415.
- Recognizes that broad coordination is essential to Alliance Attack, making it difficult for an individual Pokémon to reproduce his ability to package another Pokémon’s moves 528.
Trainer and Player Skills
| Skill | Effects and applications | Limitations / Development |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Princess | Raises Speed; its advanced effect frightens a nearby target and interrupts their action. Uses Fire- and Rock-type energy 70 71. | Early activation without the necessary perception causes internal injuries. Later analysis lets him emphasize acceleration without wasting energy on intimidation 71 109 134 195. |
| Nene Ninja Technique | Uses Poison- and Flying-type energy to produce extremely high evasion for roughly one or two seconds 195 498. | Brief duration; nevertheless helps deflect a whirlpool’s force long enough to summon Dodo and escape 316. |
| Alliance Attack | Packages moves for later release and can instantly recall a Pokémon to his side. He stores Helping Hand for a race start and recalls Chansey during training with Lorelei 373 415. | An all-type skill with demanding coordination requirements; only 23% proficiency after Meteor Falls 195 316 528. |
| O-Power | A noncombat player skill associated with negotiation or bargaining 359 498. | Not useful for haggling with an opponent during an actual battle 498. |
| Dismantle / Disassembly | A basic Trainer Skill that Shen Qi reconstructs from remembered pathways 412 413. | Learned in reality rather than granted for icon-based activation; begins at 5% proficiency 413. |
| Shadow Hold | Prevents an opponent from switching Pokémon, functioning strategically like Shadow Tag without its Ghost-type escape exception 443. | Associated with Shadow energy rather than ordinary Dark-type coordination; testing it triggers an excited state and heightened perception 443. |
| Explosion Button | Produces an area explosion at the cost of half an allied user’s HP; can select another member of his side 498 528. | Does not distinguish friend from foe. For Shen Qi, detaching a hand does not transfer the explosion away from his main body 498 609. |
| Dark Rush | An offensive player skill useful for finishing an opponent or meeting an attack head-on 600. | Requires sufficiently high proficiency and a suitable opportunity; Shen Qi does not rely on it as his main source of battle damage 600. |
| Dark Sucker Punch | Can be delivered through a detached hand or even a finger 609. | Detached-part control becomes insufficiently responsive beyond approximately five meters 609. |
| Confused State | Makes objects appear as flowers and living beings as small dinosaur dolls, disrupting the target’s recognition 600. | Deals no direct damage, but even a moment of distorted perception can create an opening. Drawn at 10% proficiency 600. |
Driving and Racing
His experience from his previous life gives him an advantage on familiar mountain roads 3 13.
- Memorizes corner entries and exits to improve delivery efficiency, shortening the former owner’s round trip by roughly an hour 13.
- Adjusts Adaptive Tire configurations to road and weather conditions 11 33.
- Coordinates Pokémon support moves through vehicle Skill Slots: Work Up increases horsepower and torque, while Helping Hand produces a brief acceleration surge 11 12.
- Recognizes the danger of raising engine output without matching improvements to brakes, suspension, and other components 12.
- Defeats Lilligant’s worn race car with the Little Sheep, but the effort leaves his vehicle overheating and leaking brake fluid 14 15.
- Receives his racing license by mail and is relieved that he can legally drive his modified vehicle 110.
- Cacturne initially assesses his Regular Race driving as upper-middle T3 level, while warning that he has accumulated more techniques than he has properly mastered 205.
- Uses Analysis Cards to perceive Infinity Energy Lines during crucial races, gaining results beyond his unaided ability at considerable mental cost 281 435.
- Wins a Regular Race in the Mega Evolution World Line, where observers judge his technique to be approaching T2 standards despite the local identity’s lack of a completed trial record 473.
- Gains approval to enter a T2 event while still a Trainee Driver; this is entry authorization rather than proof that he has achieved T2 driver rank 553.
- His documented record later includes fourth place in the Summer Race and elimination in the second round of the T2 Expansion Race 645.
Battle Awareness and Training
Racing develops Shen Qi’s dynamic vision, rapid judgment, and ability to remain composed when attacks or vehicles approach at extreme speed. Lorelei praises his awareness and accurate decisions, while identifying gaps in his type coverage and fundamentals 374 375.
- Learns from Lorelei that strong Pokémon alone cannot compensate for a Trainer losing sight of companionship, support, and sound fundamentals 373.
- Uses Alliance Attack’s instantaneous recall to create tactical variations that impress Lorelei more than Chansey’s unusually high physical damage 373.
- Combines detached limbs, Jet Energy, and Pokémon movement to launch unconventional attacks, including propelling Lopunny into a Quick Attack assault 546.
- Earns the Saffron Gym’s Gold Badge through written knowledge, practical Psychic-type manipulation, and battle tactics 526 532 533.
- During the battle assessment, forces the examiner to deploy Mega Gengar and removes 5% of her barrier points. Although still far below her overall strength, his performance demonstrates tactics capable of threatening T3 experts 532.
- Supports advanced Pokémon training, including Lopunny’s Close Combat and Mega Evolution, Golurk’s Fly, and Lilligant’s initial Dynamax development 519.
Player Attributes
The game initially expresses Shen Qi’s attributes through comparisons with Pokémon rather than conventional numerical statistics. Later observations connect these ratings to theoretical base-stat values 70 316.
| Attribute | Documented development |
|---|---|
| Player Level | Level 3 when the panel is first examined; Level 5 after Physique Card training; Level 22 upon returning to the Normal World Line and Level 23 later 70 108 593 |
| Attack | Initially Caterpie level; subsequent physical training increases his strength, though a later exact rating is not supplied here 70 401 |
| Defense | Initially Magikarp level and still at that comparative tier after Meteor Falls 70 316 |
| Special Attack | Represents Mental Power; Metapod class, 25, after Meteor Falls, later Pidgey class, 35 89 316 593 |
| Special Defense | Represents mental resilience or Soul Stability; rises through Jigglypuff level, later reaches Sandshrew class, 30, and then Pidgey class, 35 89 316 593 |
| Speed | Initially Happiny level; rises from Metapod class, 30, to Sandshrew class, 40, after Meteor Falls 70 316 |
| HP | Improves after Meteor Falls; Shen Qi notes that it is generally harder to train specifically than the other attributes 316 |
Photography
- Wins third place in Pokémon High School’s photography event with “Flowers Reflected by the Water,” depicting Lilligant touching the water 36 44.
- Confirms to the judges that Lilligant consented to the photograph 44.
- Also photographs Chansey’s training as a record of their everyday life 32.
- Officer Jenny later regards the mature aesthetic judgment in his photography as one of several unusual qualities distinguishing him from ordinary students 123.
Borrowed Healing Power
- Receives stored vitality from an injured Celebi during the Ruins Valley disaster 24.
- Uses it to calm and heal injured rescue personnel and Pokémon, including waking Nurse Joy 24.
- The borrowed power fades, and he collapses from exhaustion; it is not established as a permanent personal ability 24.
- His later Life Infinity Energy Coordination is separately documented as a trainable skill, rather than proof that Celebi’s original gift remained permanently active 517 593.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
Vehicle and Modifications
- Little Sheep / Little Lamb — His inexpensive delivery vehicle, generally described in the detailed passages as a small van. It has three Skill Slots and becomes his racing vehicle 3 11.
- Adaptive Tire — Matches a vehicle model, changes tire configuration, and absorbs wear in place of the original tires. Restoring durability requires Normal-type energy 8 11 14 32.
- Adaptive Spoiler — A racing-related milestone reward whose durability requires Grass- and Rock-type energy to restore 15.
- Adaptive Skill Slot — Obtained at 70% progress with Lilligant. She tests its conversion of her Grass-type energy and finds it unusually effective 41.
- Flower Crown — Lilligant’s racing car, later part of their travel arrangements. Shen Qi plans to leave the Little Sheep in Fuchsia City while he and Lilligant take the Flower Crown toward Hoenn alongside Florges’s food truck 159 285.
- Racing Energy — A racing item that he maintains with his own energy alongside the Adaptive Tire 205.
- Poké Ball rack — Awarded by Kadabra after Shen Qi demonstrates his racing-oriented Style Technique 56.
Game and Trainer Items
