Background / History
Jiang Cheng begins the story as an orphan who transmigrates into the wealthy Jiang Family heir of Jiang City. He quickly realizes he is the villain of the original plot: the previous Jiang Cheng’s obsession with Mu Qingcheng provoked Ye Bufan and eventually led to the Jiang Family’s ruin 1 2.
Knowing Ye Bufan is skilled in both medicine and martial arts and backed by the Kyoto Ye Family and a mysterious master, Jiang Cheng decides to avoid Mu Qingcheng, Qingcheng Group, and the heroines entirely. His early survival strategy is simple: do not provoke the protagonist, live quietly, and ideally escape to somewhere far away 1 2 3.
That plan collapses almost immediately. Mu Qingcheng calls him and gets blocked, Li Shiyao approaches him at Jiang Cheng University, Jiang Ruoxue raids the club he visits, and Shen Xiyue later takes him away from the Shen Family gathering by force 1 2 3 15.
Jiang Cheng later learns that the apparent “butterfly effect” was not caused only by his refusal to follow the plot. Qin Yan, Jiang Ruoxue, Li Shiyao, Shen Xiyue, and others had been reborn after a previous cycle in which Jiang Cheng died, the heroines united to kill Ye Bufan, and the world restarted 57 168 324.
His recovered memories reveal that he had transmigrated in the previous cycle as well. Back then, he tried to resist his villain fate by befriending heroines such as Jiang Ruoxue and Shen Xiyue from childhood, intercepting Ye Bufan’s opportunities, and preparing against the plot, but the Heavenly Dao “possessed” Ye Bufan and killed him 324.
After the restart, the Heavenly Dao could not erase Jiang Cheng directly, so it sealed his memories and interfered with his thoughts. His early instinct to run from the heroines was a subconscious resistance to that interference 324.
Appearance
Jiang Cheng is repeatedly described as handsome, refined, and physically fit. His looks make him conspicuous in elite social spaces, while his physique is described as slim in clothing but muscular when undressed 3 21 329.
- Handsome enough to draw attention at clubs, banquets, school, and public events 3 9 39 107.
- Maintains a fit body through daily exercise 60 149.
- Has a gentle, refined bearing associated with his original good reputation 2 9 113.
- Looks especially elegant in formal suits, impressing Qin Yan and Ding Shengnan 329.
- His appearance often makes other men jealous or hostile 21 60 113 114.
Personality
Jiang Cheng is cautious to the point of paranoia whenever Ye Bufan or a heroine is involved. He constantly tries to avoid the “original plot,” but the reborn heroines’ affection forces him into the exact conflicts he is trying to escape 1 7 9 14.
He maintains a calm and composed front even when panicking internally. This habit lets him navigate awkward standoffs between multiple women, hostile public confrontations, and dangerous underworld meetings without immediately losing control 12 31 78 150.
Despite calling himself a villain, Jiang Cheng often acts protectively. He worries about Jiang Ruoxue’s safety during the drug-case deviation, intervenes when Tang Meng is threatened by debt collectors, and rushes to save Jiang Ruoxue after learning she disappeared 49 152 245.
He also has a sharp tongue and a deliberately arrogant “young master” mode. Against people like Feng Hui, Li Yuncong, and Ye Bufan, he leans into his villain status, using status, mockery, and intimidation to take control of the scene 21 60 97 228.
