Chapters 178–202 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 178The "Corner" Hypothesis

Lin Yi and Tian Bufan discussed how nonhuman classmates might emerge from unstable corners in the Campus and follow students through identity-based anchoring. After reconsidering Song Rentou’s paper, Lin Yi realized its contents were suspicious, leaving the mystery unresolved.

  • Lin Yi asked Wei Shan about the green fog mark, and Wei Liang suggested that showering might have washed it away.
  • Tian Bufan and Kuai Hongji exchanged suspicions about Song Rentou’s paper before Kuai Hongji went to shower.
  • Tian Bufan told Lin Yi that nonhuman classmates had appeared in large numbers along their route back to the Dormitory Building.
  • Tian Bufan hypothesized that unstable corners could appear in the Dormitory Building and release nonhuman classmates that tracked students by anchoring onto their identities.
  • Lin Yi connected the hypothesis to Maozi’s stairwell and the humanoid sculptures, then noted that the creatures could not enter dorm rooms without Student IDs.
  • Lin Yi reread Song Rentou’s paper and concluded that something about what it said was not right.

Ch. 179The Paper's "Truth," Version 20

Lin Yi and Tian Bufan analyzed Song Rentou’s contradictory note and reconstructed how suspicion and the Humanoid Sculptures might have led to the deaths of his roommates. Kuai Hongji emerged from the bathroom with a darker interpretation, challenging their assumption that the Nonhuman Classmates had to drag anyone out to kill them.

  • Lin Yi concluded that Song Rentou had invited the Nonhuman Classmates into the dormitory and that his claim they opened the door themselves was a lie.
  • Tian Bufan proposed that voices from outside had made the dormitory residents suspect one another, prompting someone inside to open the door.
  • Tian Bufan theorized that Song Rentou avoided being targeted by anchoring himself to his dormitory rather than reciting his identity, then pretended to sleep while the Nonhuman Classmates killed his roommates.
  • Tian Bufan suggested Song Rentou wrote his note after realizing the Nonhuman Classmates were still outside, and asked Kuai Kuai if his reconstruction was right.
  • Kuai Hongji revealed he had heard their discussion and questioned why they assumed the Nonhuman Classmates needed to drag people out to kill them.

Ch. 180"Murderer's Letter of Exoneration"

Kuai Hongji reconstructed how Song Rentou deliberately used the Nonhuman Classmates to kill his roommates, then wrote a confession that concealed his responsibility. The group settled in for the night, while Lin Yi wondered whether the Bathroom could serve as a shelter before he shuddered after leaving it.

  • Tian Bufan and Kuai Hongji discussed how the Nonhuman Classmates could have entered Song Rentou’s Dormitory and killed his roommates.
  • Kuai Hongji found a clothes pole and reasoned that Song Rentou had used it to open the door while staying in bed and pretending to sleep.
  • Kuai Hongji described how Song Rentou opened the Bathroom door, pushed his showering roommate outside, and hid while the Nonhuman Classmates killed him.
  • Kuai Hongji concluded that Song Rentou wrote the paper after surviving and used two lies to disguise his deliberate murders as an act of confusion and fear.
  • Kuai Hongji went to bed, and Lin Yi and Tian Bufan ended their discussion as Wei Shan and Wei Liang settled in for the night.
  • Lin Yi wondered whether the Bathroom could offer protection, then shuddered after he stepped out of it.

Ch. 181He

Lin Yi and his roommates discussed the mysterious Song Rentou and the rules for surviving the fog, then examined footage of a being the Digital Camera could not record. Tian Bufan described perceiving the entity as a shifting, incomprehensible “concept-level sculpture” and called it “He.”

  • Lin Yi connected the Song Rentou named on the scrap to the new student in their class and agreed with Tian Bufan that they should alert Head Teacher 040 and use the scrap to investigate him.
  • Lin Yi told his roommates how he obtained the Digital Camera, and Wei Shan suggested that distracting thoughts could help students focus when nonhuman classmates tried to learn their identities.
  • Lin Yi realized Wei Liang likely had high inspiration and considered how students could adapt the rules by focusing on something other than their identity information.
  • Tian Bufan explained that the Digital Camera's static suggested the concept-level sculpture interfered with the camera's operating principles.
  • Tian Bufan said he had sensed the entity without looking at it and described it as an incomprehensible, shifting being that their minds labeled a sculpture.

Ch. 182Kuai Hongji's warning

Lin Yi discussed Li Huiyuan, Zhou Yuting, and the Teaching Building with Tian Bufan and Kuai Hongji, who warned him to prioritize his own survival as contamination and abnormal weather worsened. The chapter left Lin Yi realizing that the Dorm Supervisor’s lamp might grant him the same overwhelming power as a Security Guard.

  • Tian Bufan and Kuai Hongji described seeing Zhou Yuting distressed near the Cafeteria before she staggered into the Wooded Belt, and they suspected a Humanoid Sculpture had taken her identity.
  • Kuai Hongji criticized Lin Yi for risking himself to help Li Huiyuan and urged him to use sacrifices to test the Campus’s rules, while Tian Bufan advised Lin Yi to protect himself and focus on their team’s priorities.
  • Lin Yi explained that Li Huiyuan had lost her Student ID, failed to find a Student Commemorative Coin in the Convenience Store, and was taken away by the Head Teacher; Tian Bufan theorized she might become an Athlete Student.
  • Lin Yi described seeing Building D through a Covered Bridge and developing a vision that revealed green contamination fog; Tian Bufan proposed that it came either from contamination-induced abilities or signals emitted by something on the Campus.
  • Lin Yi remembered seeing a lamp-bearing figure lead others toward Building D and realized the figure might have been the Dorm Supervisor, whose Old Kerosene Lamp could give him the same deterrent power as a Security Guard.

Ch. 183Super night-walking species?

Lin Yi and Tian Bufan compared theories about Building D and Lin Yi’s new deduction ability, while Tian explained what he learned by exposing the elevator’s night-walking species to sunlight. Their findings led Lin Yi to suspect that the Campus’s contamination source was a colossal night-walking species connected to the Nonexistent Ocean.

  • Lin Yi and Tian Bufan considered whether Building D’s Covered Bridge connected to the Art Building, but kept the idea as an unconfirmed hypothesis.
  • Lin Yi described how his Minecraft-like deduction let him reshape the Covered Bridge’s frame of reference and revealed fog, seawater, and a hostile presence beneath it.
  • Tian Bufan warned Lin Yi not to explore Building D before preparing a safe route, then explained that he had used a mirror and the Athlete Students to investigate the elevator.
  • Tian Bufan reported that sunlight turned night-walking species into plaster-like sculptures, while breaking them in sunlight reduced them to contaminant powder and prevented their return.
  • Lin Yi compared the creatures’ changing forms to the states of water and proposed that the Campus’s contamination source might be a super night-walking species, possibly the Nonexistent Ocean.

Ch. 184Two transformation pathways

Lin Yi and Tian Bufan compared their observations to map how night-walking species, humanoid sculptures, and nonhuman classmates transformed, while considering how lost Student IDs and contamination might change Experience Students. They ended by suspecting the campus was facing a broader invasion led by a powerful source of contamination and that the concept-level sculpture might not be unique.

  • Tian Bufan explained how he used sunlight and a baseball bat to clear night-walking species from the Teaching Building Elevator, then described its floor panel and how it might operate during abnormal weather.
  • Tian Bufan told Lin Yi that night-walking species emerged from elevators after sunset and became nonhuman classmates under the lights, while those without anchored identities hid in darkness.
  • Tian Bufan distinguished night-walking species transformed from the dead from those transformed from the living, and explained that living Experience Students might return by recovering their Student IDs before contamination worsened.
  • Lin Yi and Tian Bufan outlined transformation pathways and connected Little Genius’s death, contamination in the Wooded Belt, and sunlight to the appearance of his humanoid sculpture.
  • Lin Yi reported that nonhuman classmates might be licking numbers from streetlamps, and Tian Bufan suggested a powerful source of contamination was guiding a campus-wide invasion.
  • Tian Bufan reminded Lin Yi that a concept-level sculpture had appeared near both their classrooms, leading Lin Yi to suspect that such sculptures were not unique individuals.

Ch. 185Did the contamination come from the supernatural? (2,700-word bonus update)

Lin Yi and Tian Bufan theorized that supernatural contamination and the Nonhuman Classmates’ attacks on streetlamps were connected, while uncovering more of the campus’s strange layered geography. The chapter ended with Tian Bufan revealing that his search for the Library had led him to the Wooded Belt instead.

  • Tian Bufan argued that the contamination’s source was not a single omnipresent being, and he and Lin Yi suspected past attacks by Nonhuman Classmates had erased some streetlamp numbers.
  • Tian Bufan proposed that contamination itself was a form of absorbing supernatural traits, and that newly created Nonhuman Classmates might consume streetlamp energy as part of a wider attack orchestrated by a hidden being.
  • Tian Bufan suggested the campus was surrounded by Humanoid Sculptures and explained that unstable layers could reveal the Teaching Building’s Stairwell in unexpected places.
  • Tian Bufan told Lin Yi that the School Gate was missing from its mapped location and that the road toward it led into the Wooded Belt; Lin Yi then noticed the map also marked a Security Office.
  • Tian Bufan said he had searched for the Library and reached the Library-102 streetlamp, only to find the Wooded Belt there too.

Ch. 186Could the Library be...?

Lin Yi and Tian Bufan connected the Library to Building D of the Teaching Building and analyzed how supernatural waves might affect the Campus’s lights. They ended the night planning to investigate the Gymnasium, while Wei Liang panicked at the prospect of swimming class.

  • Tian Bufan suggested that Building D of the Teaching Building was the Library, and Lin Yi linked that idea to the Library’s map icon and rules.
  • Lin Yi told Tian Bufan about the Convenience Store, its lethal darkness, the spreading fog, and the lights going out in a wave; Tian Bufan proposed that the lights revealed the movement of a powerful presence in the fog.
  • Wei Liang denied entering the Convenience Store, then reacted when Lin Yi mentioned an alarm there; Lin Yi also described Mu Daxian’s fighting and Tian Bufan contrasted it with the Art Students’ painting-based actions.
  • Lin Yi and Tian Bufan considered whether darkness could trap Contamination Persons and whether Green Apron Chefs might use the Student Passage to leave the Cafeteria.
  • Lin Yi and Tian Bufan planned to speak with Athlete Students and explore the Gymnasium during PE, but Wei Liang rejected Lin Yi’s suggestion that he join Swimming Class.

Ch. 187Sky-blue steam

Lin Yi fell asleep as the dormitory lights went out and entered a lucid dream in Tian Bufan’s perspective, watching the athlete students destroy night-walking species and Tian Bufan turn their remains into mirror glue. Old Du explained that the creatures’ blood-vessel-like frameworks let them absorb contamination and regenerate, while Tian Bufan learned that their humanoid sculptures could become impersonators but not real humans.

  • Lin Yi noticed frost on the dormitory door and a dark shape moving upward outside, then fell asleep just before midnight.
  • After the lights went out, a shadow crawled down the dormitory window as Lin Yi entered a lucid dream and found himself in the Teaching Building.
  • Tian Bufan and the athlete students used mirrors to concentrate sunlight on night-walking species in the elevator, while a baseball bat wreathed in sky-blue steam severed their tentacles.
  • Tian Bufan used the creatures’ remains to reassemble mirror fragments into a multifaceted mirror, and the students roasted the elevator’s night-walking species into sculptures before pulverizing them.
  • Old Du explained that night-walking species regenerated through their blood-vessel-like frameworks, and Old Zhang demonstrated how a framework absorbed contamination and rebuilt a creature into a humanoid sculpture.
  • Tian Bufan called the resulting beings nonhuman classmates, while Old Du named them impersonators and explained that they could not become human again.

Ch. 188Not meant for me to see

Lin Yi watched Tian Bufan learn about night-walking species and impersonators, then noticed that Tian Bufan’s strange choices in the elevator seemed to reveal details meant for Lin Yi to see. After falling through a dream transition, Lin Yi arrived beside a streetlamp labeled “Library-102.”

  • Lao Zhang destroyed humanoid sculptures while Lao Du explained how night-walking species’ frameworks eroded their humanity and how impersonators could become irreversibly purebred night-walking species.
  • Lao Du explained that impersonators came in different forms and that contaminated impersonators could produce dangerous xenomorphic sculptures.
  • Green Fog Mark mist swarmed Lao Du and Lao Zhang, but Lao Zhang’s sky-blue steam neutralized it and left him drained.
  • Tian Bufan entered the elevator and waited until reflected sunlight revealed hidden lines on its inner walls, then pressed the sixth-floor button as he left.
  • Lin Yi fell through a dream transition and appeared beside a streetlamp marked “Library-102.”

Ch. 189Cursed Tree

Lin Yi watched Tian Bufan and Wei Shan investigate the area by the Library-102 Streetlamp Pole, while he reconsidered what lay beyond Teaching Building C and memorized the surroundings. As Tian Bufan and Wei Shan left, Lin Yi’s dream shifted into a fleeing investigator’s perspective, revealing a strange tree covered in eyes.

  • Lin Yi saw humanoid sculptures in the Wooded Belt slowly move closer to Wei Shan while Tian Bufan examined the area near the Library-102 Streetlamp Pole.
  • Lin Yi reconsidered whether Teaching Building D’s layer connected to the Library or the Art Building and decided to memorize the scenery for his Minecraft simulation.
  • Wei Shan threw a rock that shattered a sculpture, then left with Tian Bufan as the sculpture’s remains dissolved into green vapor and white powder.
  • Lin Yi sensed something flowing from the Wooded Belt toward the Campus, and his dream perspective shifted to someone running through the woods from pursuing sculptures.
  • The fleeing investigator stumbled and grabbed a tree trunk covered in huge eyes, which flowed and vanished until the trunk looked ordinary again.

Ch. 190The Sound of Showering in the Dormitory After Midnight

Lin Yi dreamed through a Micro Camera recording of Kuai Hongji encountering a wounded cameraman near the Cursed Tree, then woke in the dormitory to the sound of someone showering after midnight. Realizing Song Rentou’s roommate may have been the supernatural target, Lin Yi stayed in his Safe State and used his Minecraft perception to map the unseen things in the dormitory.

  • Lin Yi watched a Micro Camera recording of a cameraman fleeing the Humanoid Sculptures and receiving help from Kuai Hongji, who reached for the camera instead of the injured man.
  • Lin Yi concluded that he had dreamed of Kuai Hongji watching the recording, then woke in his dormitory when the sound of running water carried into his sleep.
  • Lin Yi heard someone showering after midnight and reinterpreted Song Rentou’s notes as evidence that his roommate, rather than Song Rentou, was entangled with the supernatural.
  • Lin Yi resisted opening his eyes and remained feigned asleep as he heard rustling and sensed something near his bed.
  • Lin Yi entered a Minecraft-like state, reconstructed the dormitory from sound waves, and began imprinting the unseen entities into his mental model.

Ch. 191[I am Wei Liang]

Lin Yi endured a supernatural presence whispering beside his bed while he tried to remain asleep and preserve his safety. The Dorm Supervisor arrived with the Old Kerosene Lamp, driving back the chill and beginning to deal with the intruder.

  • Lin Yi used Minecraft: Dormitory to uncover an inverted space where a humanoid creature stood on the ceiling and could peer through the Dormitory door’s peephole.
  • Lin Yi noticed the Digital Camera was missing from beside his pillow and saw it on Tian Bufan’s bed, suspecting Tian Bufan had started recording.
  • The creature breathed icy air over Lin Yi and spoke in a familiar voice, claiming to be Wei Liang and urging him to open his eyes, while strange sounds seemed connected to an Ocean.
  • Wei Shan rolled over in his sleep and accidentally struck the creature, sending it crashing into the door, but it returned to Lin Yi’s bedside.
  • Someone battered down the Dormitory door, and the Old Kerosene Lamp’s warmth made the creature flee as the Dorm Supervisor told the students to keep their eyes closed.
  • Lin Yi recognized the arriving voice as the Dorm Supervisor’s and decided to keep pretending to sleep while hearing a threat to erase something in the Dorm Supervisor’s name.

Ch. 192Black Leather Apron Chef

Lin Yi survived a night of horrors in Dormitory 1414 when the Dorm Supervisor returned with the Old Kerosene Lamp and helped him fall asleep again. In Wei Shan’s dream perspective, Lin Yi discovered that Wei Shan emitted sky-blue steam and eagerly faced a Black Leather Apron Chef in the Staff Passage.

  • The Dorm Supervisor entered the Bathroom while strange creatures invaded the room, and two students died after opening their eyes.
  • The Dorm Supervisor returned with the Old Kerosene Lamp, drove the creatures away, and helped Lin Yi fall asleep again.
  • Lin Yi entered Wei Shan’s perspective at the moment Wei Shan approached the Staff Passage to throw away his stained uniform.
  • Lin Yi saw sky-blue steam emanating from Wei Shan as footsteps approached from inside the passage.
  • Wei Shan stopped Lin Yi from coming closer and grinned excitedly as a Black Leather Apron Chef carrying a bloodied cleaver emerged.

Ch. 193Going with you to dinner

Lin Yi resumed watching Mao Feiyang’s perspective in the Art Building and saw Mu Daxian prepare to escort him to dinner with a concealed weapon disguised as a drawing board. As they left, Mu Daxian warned Mao Feiyang away from sealed areas and explained the hall’s mysterious artwork, while Lin Yi grew wary of his advice about the rules.

  • Lin Yi saw Wei Shan use sky-blue steam to summon a Security Guard’s Shadow before throwing a school uniform into a trash can, which triggered a spatial transition.
  • During the transition, Lin Yi glimpsed Maozi’s Student Commemorative Coin and recognized its identifier as “Month-X02305070323.”
  • Lin Yi returned to Mao Feiyang’s perspective at 16:50 in Art Classroom-IV, where Mu Daxian prepared a drawing board that concealed a weapon and invited Mao Feiyang to dinner.
  • Mu Daxian told Mao Feiyang that he could take the drawing board outside and later customize it as a weapon, despite the Art Student Rules allowing only paintbrushes out of the classroom.
  • As they walked through the Art Building, Mu Daxian discouraged Mao Feiyang from rigidly following the rules and ordered him to avoid sealed areas and report suspicious signs.
  • Mu Daxian described the hall’s ancient World Tree, “Living Towards Death,” and its murals as they prepared to leave for dinner.

Ch. 194Once a Dorm Supervisor

Mu Daxian explained how Mao Feiyang had arrived at the Art Building and revealed that he had once worked as a Dorm Supervisor. As they crossed the stormy bridge, Mu Daxian protected Mao Feiyang from an Impersonator Art Teacher and used his paintbrush to change the creature’s perception of its severed leg.

  • Mu Daxian deduced the route Mao Feiyang had taken to reach the Art Building and said he had previously worked as a Dorm Supervisor.
  • Mu Daxian led Mao Feiyang across the rain-soaked stone bridge and explained that the rain could contaminate Perception while stimulating artistic cells in moderation.
  • Mu Daxian shielded Mao Feiyang when the Impersonator Art Teacher attacked, then struck it with his drawing board and severed its leg with a paintbrush.
  • The Impersonator Art Teacher retrieved what it thought was its leg, but realized Mu Daxian’s paintbrush had changed its cognition so that it saw a giant chicken leg.

Ch. 195Library 2F

Lin Yi watched Mu Daxian guide Mao Feiyang from the Art Building through the Library and into Teaching Building A, then take him off the Pebble Road to maintain Streetlamp Poles. Mu Daxian explained that the poles needed their numbers replenished before the Day of Destruction, and Mao Feiyang suddenly screamed as they continued along the mountain path.

  • Mu Daxian revealed that he had used his paintbrush and the Purebred Night-Walking Species beneath the bridge to overwrite the Impersonator Art Teacher's leg, and Lin Yi realized the trick had also contaminated the teacher's perception.
  • Mu Daxian took Mao Feiyang through the Art Building elevator, where they encountered an Impersonator Art Student at Library-2F; the student fled after recognizing Mu Daxian and his drawing board.
  • The elevator carried Mao Feiyang to Teaching Building-A-1F, disproving Lin Yi's theory that the Art Building elevator led to Teaching Building C, before Mu Daxian led Mao Feiyang toward the Cafeteria.
  • Mu Daxian left the Pebble Road and wrote numbers on several real Streetlamp Poles, explaining that the numbers charged the lamps and that Impersonators had created fake poles.
  • Mu Daxian told Mao Feiyang that the Night Watchman's bell had warned everyone of the Day of Destruction and that people on Campus needed to work together; then Mao Feiyang screamed and nearly fell.

Ch. 196An introduction to the fundamentals of art

Mu Daxian brought Mao Feiyang through the Other Passage to the Student Dining Hall and explained contamination, supernatural power, and the choices involved in becoming an Art Student. As Mao Feiyang learned how supernatural traits varied with talent, Mu Daxian identified Van Gogh and Da Vinci as exceptional Art Students, leaving Mao Feiyang questioning whether he meant the famous artists.

  • Mao Feiyang slipped down a slope and was cornered by Humanoid Sculptures until Mu Daxian blinded them with his paintbrush and pulled him to safety.
  • Mu Daxian explained that the sculptures were low-level impersonators and warned Mao Feiyang to keep his Student Commemorative Coin and destroy newly transformed sculptures.
  • Mu Daxian led Mao Feiyang to the Cafeteria, explained that a Day of Destruction battle had begun, and warned him that learning too much could draw him into the fighting.
  • In the Student Dining Hall, Mu Daxian showed Mao Feiyang how the Other Passage revealed contamination and described supernatural power as a dangerous force that could assimilate those who pursued it.
  • Mu Daxian explained that the Art Student Rules offered a way to retreat from the path, while pursuing it without paying its price could turn someone into an impersonator Art Student.
  • Over their meal, Mu Daxian compared supernatural contamination to nuclear radiation and named Van Gogh and Da Vinci as outstanding Art Students, prompting Mao Feiyang to ask if he meant the famous artists.

Ch. 197The difference between Art Students and Athlete Students

Mu Daxian explained the histories and dangers of the Art Student and Athlete Student paths to Mao Feiyang, then led him through the Student Dining Hall. Lin Yi discovered another hidden layer containing an Impersonator meal window, and the chapter ended with him sensing that the apparently peaceful dining hall beyond the curtain was terrifyingly silent.

  • Mu Daxian told Mao Feiyang that van Gogh and da Vinci had been connected to the Art Building and its supernatural secrets, while Van Helsing had been an Athlete Student who hunted angels.
  • Mu Daxian explained that Art Students and Athlete Students had different paths, and that unstable contamination could leave people vulnerable to Impersonators or worse.
  • As Mu Daxian led Mao Feiyang toward the Plate Return Area, Lin Yi realized the Student Dining Hall might contain overlapping layers and spotted Meal Window No. 10, where Impersonators were lining up.
  • When Mao Feiyang set down his tray, Lin Yi's eyes turned gold and revealed a Green Apron Chef forcing itself out of Meal Window No. 10 as a Blue Apron Chef transformed into another Green Apron Chef.
  • Mu Daxian dragged Mao Feiyang toward the Other Passage while the Green Apron Chefs pursued them, slithering rapidly across the shadowed floor.
  • After Mao Feiyang left, Lin Yi saw a peaceful-looking dining hall through the Plastic Air Curtain and realized neither he nor Mao Feiyang had reached that layer, which filled him with a sense of deathly silence.

Ch. 198Mao Feiyang Was Injured!

Lin Yi continued watching Mao Feiyang’s perspective and saw him and Mu Daxian flee through the Teaching Building after Mao Feiyang’s wound began releasing contamination. They escaped an attack in the Bathroom, where Lin Yi spotted a pupil-less Wei Liang among several identical figures.

  • Lin Yi realized he had more time to experience Mao Feiyang’s dream and found himself watching Mao Feiyang run with Mu Daxian through the Covered Bridge into Building B.
  • Mu Daxian examined Mao Feiyang’s arm, and Lin Yi recognized the wound as the scrape Mao Feiyang had gotten when he fell into the Wooded Belt.
  • As Mao Feiyang washed the wound in the Bathroom, Lin Yi saw green contamination flow from it and watched his blood produce green smoke down the drain.
  • A pitch-black creature attacked Mao Feiyang, but Mu Daxian struck it with his drawing board and led Mao Feiyang into the Stairwell.
  • Lin Yi saw the creature take Wei Liang’s form, then noticed more pupil-less figures resembling Wei Liang in the men’s restroom as they pleaded for help.

Ch. 199Tomato sauce at the wound

While following Mao Feiyang through Building B, Lin Yi noticed his wound stirred a dangerous appetite and saw him suppress it through concentration. Lin Yi then perceived Purebred Night-Walking Species covering the Teaching Building’s walls and connected the experience to a theory that expanding cognition could raise a person’s contamination threshold, leaving him to wonder whether this could let an Experience Student use powers usually associated with higher stages.

  • Lin Yi connected the fake Wei Liang Mao Feiyang had encountered to the Night-Walking Species Wei Liang he would kill the next day, then worried that the repeated appearances might make him distrust Wei Liang.
  • Lin Yi followed Mao Feiyang and Mu Daxian up the Stairwell and smelled tomato sauce coming from Mao Feiyang’s scrape.
  • Mu Daxian warned Mao Feiyang that he had lost control, and Mao Feiyang concentrated until the scent disappeared.
  • Lin Yi perceived Purebred Night-Walking Species covering the Stairwell and the Teaching Building’s other walls, then tried to make himself see them as ordinary plaster.
  • Lin Yi joined Tian Bufan’s newbie village theory with Mu Daxian’s waypoint theory and concluded that expanding cognition could raise the contamination threshold and potentially let an Experience Student use stronger supernatural powers.

Ch. 200Once separated by only a wall

Lin Yi realized that his expanded domain of cognition let him withstand more supernatural contamination, then saw a vision revealing why Mu Daxian and Mao Feiyang had stayed out of classrooms. He learned that Mao Feiyang’s wound carried unusually strong supernatural power and that an Angel might be drawn to it, while Mu Daxian prepared to hide him through the night.

  • Lin Yi considered how his expanded cognition increased his contamination threshold and wondered whether the Teaching Building’s night-walking species might be a hallucination like the world Zhou Yuting had seen.
  • A mass of black lava containing humanoid sculptures and purebred night-walking species climbed toward Mao Feiyang, drawn by the contamination escaping from his wound.
  • Lin Yi saw a vision of Mu Daxian knocking on Head Teacher 039’s office and realized the two had been only a wall away from him on May 7.
  • Mu Daxian registered Mao Feiyang with Head Teacher 039, but stayed outside the classroom after noticing that she was contaminated and learning that the Cafeteria’s problems had begun when its boss disappeared.
  • Head Teacher 039 warned that Mao Feiyang’s wound contained unusually powerful contamination that could attract an Angel, and Mu Daxian agreed to keep him hidden until the elevator became available.
  • Head Teacher 039 advised Mu Daxian to use night-walking species to mask their scent, then reacted with a complicated expression when she noticed his cloth bag and drawing board.

Ch. 201Impossible to eliminate

Mu Daxian explained to Mao Feiyang why Impersonators and other supernatural beings could not be eliminated inside the Art Building, while Lin Yi realized sunlight made them vulnerable on Campus. As the Security Guard arrived to take Head Teacher 039 away, Mu Daxian warned Mao Feiyang that the Guard’s rules and supernatural traits made him dangerous to approach.

  • Mu Daxian took Mao Feiyang to the Covered Bridge to wait for the Security Guard, and explained how contamination affected people and transformed Art Teachers and Art Students.
  • Mu Daxian said large-scale fighting against Impersonators and Night-Walking Species was futile, but Lin Yi realized they could be killed on Campus because sunlight was fatal to them.
  • Mu Daxian cautioned Mao Feiyang that his instinctive attraction to art might be genuine, while Mao Feiyang insisted he did not want to become an Art Student.
  • Lin Yi returned from the Teachers' Office looking exhausted, and Mu Daxian checked that he was all right.
  • The Security Guard approached, and Mu Daxian explained that the Guard absorbed supernatural power nearby and might strike Art Students, so Mao Feiyang avoided looking at him.

Ch. 202A complicated composition and no composition at all

Lin Yi watched the Security Guard escort Head Teacher 039 and a queue of chefs through the fog, while Mu Daxian kept Mao Feiyang from following too closely. Lin Yi discovered that he carried both green and blue contamination, while Wei Liang appeared to have none; the chapter ended as the Security Guard revealed the Building D Covered Bridge and called the group after him.

  • The Security Guard escorted Head Teacher 039 away from the Teaching Building, then waited for the chefs before leading them toward Building C as Mu Daxian restrained Mao Feiyang.
  • Mu Daxian noticed that Lin Yi had an unusually complicated composition, and Lin Yi saw both dark green fog and pale blue steam surrounding his past self.
  • Lin Yi could detect no contamination on Wei Liang and reasoned that Wei Liang might have left the dormitory during his previous experience, done something consequential, and returned without remembering it.
  • The Security Guard led Head Teacher 039 and the chefs onto the Building D Covered Bridge, which appeared when he shone the Old Kerosene Lamp on a wall.
  • The Security Guard told everyone to follow him, and Mu Daxian held Mao Feiyang back as the Head Teacher and chefs followed the Security Guard across the bridge.
