Background / History
Chan Ho-nam has followed Big B for ten years by the time he is nominated for the Macau assignment. Big B regards him as reliable, loyal, and skilled, and explicitly says he treats him like his own son 16 38 39.
His preferential treatment becomes a source of resentment within the Yuen Long branch. Although Gu Sheng achieves more conspicuous results during the conflict with Tung Sing, Chan Ho-nam receives the more profitable territory after their joint initiation 16 22.
Appearance
Chan Ho-nam is introduced wearing a leather jacket, with fairly long hair 7.
- Build: Has developed muscles, reflecting his regular training 23.
- Resemblance: Gu Sheng considers him and the other familiar figures roughly fifty to sixty percent similar to their remembered film counterparts 1.
Personality
Loyalty and brotherhood are qualities even Gu Sheng acknowledges in Chan Ho-nam. He accepts Big B’s order to kill Ba Bi without asking why, determined to complete the assignment flawlessly 7 22.
He is proud of his fighting ability and sensitive to accusations that his success comes from favoritism. After killing Ba Bi, he challenges Gu Sheng to silence the gossip, but his humiliating defeat leaves him ashamed and intent on settling the score 23 24.
Chan Ho-nam takes assignments more seriously than several of his companions. He rebukes them for treating the Macau trip like a holiday and repeatedly tries to restrain Chicken’s inappropriate behavior. After the mission fails, he publicly takes responsibility rather than allowing Big B or Chiang Tin-sang to bear the blame 7 39 40.

- Chicken — Close follower and companion. Breaks with Chan Ho-nam after learning about the encounter with his girlfriend, Ho Yan 7 39.
