This clearly wasn't a family visit.

Luo Yang stepped in front of Song Meiqi just in time.

"You're fucking asking for it!" the other bodyguard cursed, throwing a punch at Luo Yang's face.

Before his fist could land, two fingers shot straight toward him. He hadn't even seen what happened when pain exploded in both eyes, and his vision went dark.

The Primordial Medical Finger could heal people-and it could also "deal with" them.

"Aah!"

His scream was shrill and agonized.

Luo Yang's face remained expressionless, his heart utterly unruffled.

He had anticipated this result before striking. With the Ancestral Witch Spirit Body's heightened senses active, the bodyguard moved far too slowly. He could barely be bothered to mock him. With skills like that, how did he have the nerve to work as hired muscle?

Ye Zi stared blankly at Luo Yang, unable to believe that this refined, handsome man had subdued a vicious-looking brute in an instant.

"Fuck!" The other bodyguard refused to back down. He cursed and lunged, driving his massive fist toward the bridge of Luo Yang's nose.

Luo Yang swept his right hand up, spreading his index and middle fingers at a forty-five-degree angle. In a flash, they jabbed into the other bodyguard's eyes.

One was too slow.

The other was too fast.

The outcome had been decided from the start.

"Aah!" The other bodyguard also clutched his eyes and screamed. He staggered backward, crashed into his companion, and sent them both sprawling.

Ye Zi and Song Meiqi opened their mouths in perfect unison.

Only then did Song Dongming recover his senses. His lips moved. "You..."

He managed that single word, then fell silent.

Luo Yang looked at Song Dongming.

Song Dongming took a deep breath and finally regained his composure. "You're that young doctor. Your name's Luo Yang, right?"

Luo Yang nodded slightly.

Song Dongming suddenly raised his voice. "Do you fucking know who I am? You didn't even ask why I came before hurting my men!"

"I know," Luo Yang said calmly. "You want to take Meiqi away. I won't allow it."

Song Dongming sneered. "Sister-in-law, did you hear that?"

Ye Zi's voice was cold. "I heard him. Take your two dogs and leave."

"Sister-in-law, my dad wants to see his granddaughter. I was passing by and came to pick Meiqi up. Is that not allowed?"

"No!"

"Sister-in-law, my dad went to so much trouble to get Director Wang to treat Meiqi, and what did you do? You had her discharged. I asked around. This kid is only a junior physician, and one who was fired at that. Not only are you letting someone like him treat Meiqi, you even brought him home." Song Dongming pointed at Luo Yang. "Judging by the way he spoke just now, is he hoping to become Meiqi's dad?"

"Don't talk nonsense," Ye Zi said coldly. "I invited Dr. Luo here to treat Meiqi. Dad can come see her whenever he wants, but even he can't take her away from me!"

"I'm taking Meiqi back today, and I'd like to see anyone try to stop me!" Song Dongming walked toward Song Meiqi.

Song Meiqi hid behind Luo Yang.

Song Dongming pointed at Luo Yang and snarled, "Kid, this is your last warning. Get out of my way, or I'll-"

Luo Yang suddenly reached out, grabbed Song Dongming's finger, and bent it upward.

"Ow! Ow..." Song Dongming howled over and over.

Luo Yang dragged Song Dongming toward the door.

Shock and fury twisted Song Dongming's face, turning it a deep, livid red. Yet he couldn't break free of Luo Yang's grip and could only stumble along after him.

"You're finished, kid! I'll make you regret this!"

At the doorway, Luo Yang shoved Song Dongming outside.

Song Dongming fell to the ground, his tie askew and his suit dirty, looking utterly pathetic.

"You two, get out too!" Luo Yang barked.

The two bodyguards stumbled out the door.

Song Dongming climbed to his feet and pointed at Luo Yang, his expression savage.

Bang!

The door slammed shut.

Song Dongming stood frozen for a long while.

Song Meiqi fell asleep.

She had been chattering away just moments earlier, then fallen asleep in the blink of an eye.

Ye Zi brought over a light blanket and covered Song Meiqi with it.

Luo Yang wanted to comfort her, but then he remembered that she wasn't the sort of woman who needed comforting. He swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue.

"What would you like to drink?" Ye Zi walked toward the liquor cabinet.

"I don't drink," Luo Yang said.

"Make an exception tonight. Have a drink with me."

Luo Yang couldn't bring himself to refuse, so he nodded.

Ye Zi brought over a bottle of whiskey and two square tumblers, then filled each glass more than halfway.

Luo Yang picked up one of the glasses.

After a couple of sips, Ye Zi began to talk.

"My husband's name was Song Dongshan. He was the chairman of the Green Mountain Energy Company. A year ago, he went to Qingdi to inspect a lithium mine and had an accident. Before he left, he made a will dividing his forty-one percent founding stake into two portions. Twenty-one percent went to me, and twenty percent to Meiqi..."

Luo Yang was a little surprised. He hadn't expected Ye Zi to confide this in him.

"The will also specifically stated that if I remarried, custody of Meiqi would go to my father-in-law, Song Haichang. The Green Mountain Energy Company's founders' agreement stipulates that whoever holds the largest stake controls the company. My father-in-law holds twenty-three percent of Green Mountain Energy. After my husband died, and with my own father retired, he started stopping at nothing to get custody of Meiqi. Do you understand what's going on now?"

"Ye Zi, if there's anything I can help you with, just ask."

"What can you help me with?" Ye Zi looked into Luo Yang's eyes, her gaze deep and piercing.

For a moment, Luo Yang had no answer.

"Then tell me, why are you helping me?" Ye Zi took another small sip. A faint flush had already spread across her lovely cheeks.

Luo Yang smiled. "Honestly, I don't know either."

"There actually is something I need your help with. But what can I give you? Why don't you name your price?" Ye Zi swirled her glass.

Luo Yang frowned slightly. "Ye Zi, if you put it that way, I won't help you."

"All right, all right. I was wrong. I'll drink a glass as my penalty." Ye Zi drained her whiskey, then poured herself another glass.

Luo Yang could see the bitterness in her heart. He also understood her caution and her attempts to sound him out, so he didn't take offense.

"Ye Zi, you said there really was something you needed my help with. Tell me, what is it?" He genuinely wanted to help her, with no ulterior motive.

"There's a very influential man who's ill. If you can cure him, he'll be able to help me."

"What illness does he have?" Luo Yang asked.

Powerful as the Primordial Medical Finger was, it wasn't all-purpose.

"His lower body is paralyzed. Do you think you can treat him?" A hint of hope appeared in Ye Zi's eyes.

Luo Yang thought for a moment. "Paralysis of the lower limbs is usually caused by problems with the peripheral nerves. I'll need to see him before I can judge. But even if I can't cure him completely, I'm confident I can ease his condition."

A smile appeared on Ye Zi's face. "I'll call him right now."
