Background / History

Inheritance and Custody Dispute

Meiqi’s father, Song Dongshan, was chairman of Green Mountain Energy Company. He died in an accident while inspecting a lithium mine in Qingdi a year before the early events of the story. His will divided his 41% founding stake between Ye Zi, who received 21%, and Meiqi, who received 20% 6.

The will stipulated that custody of Meiqi would pass to her paternal grandfather, Song Haichang, if Ye Zi remarried. Because the company’s founders’ agreement gave control to the largest shareholder, Haichang’s existing 23% stake made custody of Meiqi central to his struggle with Ye Zi for control of the company 6.

Leg Injury and Recovery

Meiqi suffered severe damage to the common peroneal nerve in her right leg, accompanied by calf-muscle atrophy. Several major hospitals failed to restore her ability to walk or even lift the front of her right foot. When Luo Yang began treating her, she had been hospitalized for a week 2 3.

Wang Shunli arranged surgery partly to gain favor with her influential family, while planning to blame Luo Yang if it failed. After awakening his ancestral witch inheritance, Luo Yang instead treated Meiqi with the Primordial Medical Finger 1 2.

Protection and Life with Luo Yang

After her discharge, Meiqi stayed at Ye Zi’s villa in the Thatched Cottage by Huanhua Creek so Luo Yang could continue treating her. Song Dongming arrived with bodyguards to take her away, but Luo Yang intervened and expelled them 5 6.

Song Haichang subsequently arrived with Dongming, Wang Shunli, and more than twenty others. Ye Zi sheltered Meiqi in a bedroom while Luo Yang confronted them. Liu Youshui and Jiang Yue prevented further interference, allowing her next treatment to proceed 7 9 10.

When Luo Yang moved into his own home, Meiqi claimed a room and unpacked her toiletries. Ye Zi later entrusted her to him while visiting the company’s lithium mine, with her maternal grandparents also helping care for her 16 22 26.

During an outing, Luo Yang briefly used his phone’s Feather Blade’s Eye to make Meiqi head toward her writing practice. The effect lasted only seconds; she resumed asking to see pandas, and he agreed to take her out 44.

Her confidence also makes her impatient with recovery restrictions: she wants to race Luo Yang and play soccer before her legs have fully regained their strength 7 10.

She actively tries to bring Luo Yang and Ye Zi together. Her stated reasons are that her mother works hard to support her, she dislikes the idea of other suitors, and she felt close to Luo Yang from their first meeting. She offers him advice about gifts and her mother’s interests, leaves the adults alone deliberately, and interprets Ye Yiming’s offer to buy him a car as her mother’s dowry 15 16 26 43.

Despite her grown-up talk, Meiqi seeks reassurance and attention. She demands bedtime stories, clings to Luo Yang when frightened, and cries for her mother after seeing a disturbing vision 26 46.
