An incident a day
Gazing at the firelight in the Black Pearl District, Lumian fell into deep thought.
As a "Conspirer," he subconsciously began to analyze the potential reasons:
First, we can rule out Rebels and national independence movements, as such organizations do not exist in the Sea of Fog Archipelago. This was Intis's first overseas colony, and successive governments have worked hard to both erode its religious and cultural influence and assimilate the Islanders. Coupled with the policies implemented by Emperor Roselle, this place was practically equivalent to Intis overseas province with more lenient laws and worse public security. The Islanders had long lost their original faith and considered themselves citizens of the frontier region of Intis, suffering from discrimination.
This is not fundamentally different from the discrimination faced by the Lim people to the south of Intis and the Savoie people to the east. In any case, the citizens of Trier look down on all outsiders equally, but are relatively more wary of the Islanders who like to commit fraud and act as Thug.
Was it the piracy trade that caused the infighting, or were those organizations from the Southern Continent who wanted to overthrow colonial rule choosing to cause trouble in the Sea of Fog Archipelago? Or were some ambitious individuals following the Evil God? As Lumian's thoughts raced, he caught a glimpse of a half- Giant, over two and a half meters tall, wearing Black Trench Coat and a silk top hat, emerging from a room on the side of the Church.
He said to the bewildered and frightened prayers and Vagrant people, "Don't worry, the Lord will protect you all."
"Stay here and don't go out. Wait for the riot to subside. There will be no danger."
"Praise the Fool!" The believers in the "The Fool's " Church found their support and placed their hands on their breasts in a gesture of respect.
Their expressions softened, and they clearly felt safer.
The Vagrant men looked at each other, and none of them chose to leave.
--In the minds of most Intis people, the Church is a safer place than the government, regardless of which Church Church belongs to.
At this moment, Golden Sunlight fell on the area where the explosion had just occurred and flames had surged, and a series of dense booming sounds rang out, though not as loud as before.
It is clear that the Governor's Mansion and the Beyonder of the two major Church are dealing with something unusual.
At the same time, Lumian noticed that the sky, illuminated by moonlight and Starlight, had darkened slightly. Despite no Change in the weather, the streets outside seemed to be shrouded in a thin, dark mist.
He hesitated for a moment, then, ignoring the shouts of That One half- Giant bishop, opened the door of the "The Fool's " Church and went out.
The outside temperature has dropped significantly, just like Trier has entered autumn.
Illuminated by the Gas Streetlamp, Lumian headed back towards the port.
Suddenly, a swaying figure emerged from the alley next door.
The figure was wearing a thin shirt and trousers, barefoot, with a pale face and many wrinkles.
His eyes were mostly white with little brown, and his exposed skin was covered with patches of lividity.
"Living Corpse? "Lumian raised an eyebrow.
The old man, who appeared to be Living Corpse, was about to stagger towards the Black Pearl District when he seemed to smell the scent of spirit and blood. He suddenly turned to the side, looked at Lumian, and made a sound that did not sound human from his throat.
Lumian immediately conjured a Reddish-White Fireball and sent it hurtling toward the Living Corpse.
With a deafening explosion, the Living Corpse's head shattered, its body torn to pieces, and it died once more.
It stopped making any noise.
"Is that all the strength you have?" Lumian thought he had encountered a more dangerous Undead.
He continued forward, and a dozen or twenty Reddish-White Fireball condensed above his head, behind his head, above his shoulders, and on both sides of his body, keeping them relatively suspended as he moved.
Just as he turned the corner, Lumian saw a young Couple scream in terror and run away.
Behind them, a Living Corpse with several gunshot wounds was chasing them, its dark red heart and whitish intestines barely visible.
A Reddish-White Fireball, shot out from around Lumian, passing over the two Couple and exploding on the Living Corpse.
With a thunderous roar, charred pieces of the corpse, still wreathed in Flames, scattered in all directions.
The young Couple stopped in their tracks, staring in disbelief at Lumian, who was surrounded by a dozen or twenty Reddish-White Fireball.
"Are we just going to stand there and wait to die?" Lumian cursed as he walked. "Go to the back street and into the ' The Fool's ' Church."
"Okay, okay!" the young man and woman answered instinctively, as if facing an armed Police or an adventurer.
The Fireball was clearly much more powerful than the gun!
Once the Couple entered the street where the "The Fool's " Church was located, Lumian, like Messenger of Flames, continued towards the port at a leisurely pace.
Along the way, he encountered several more groups of people who came out of Bar, open-air markets, and other places and had come across the Living Corpse.
Without saying a word, Lumian launched the Reddish-White Fireball around him to deal with the Resurrection Corpse and then sent them to the nearest Church for shelter.
The pursuit of the Living Corpse and the Intimidation of the Fireball made his words extremely persuasive; no one had to stubbornly find their own way.
If it were true, Lumian wouldn't bother with it.
After several similar incidents, Lumian gradually figured out some patterns:
Those Living Corpse weren't transformed from living people; they all came from the dead. The dead throughout the entire city of Falin Port had Resurrection for some unknown reason.
The Living Corpse will instinctively move towards the site of the previous explosion, but if they encounter living people along the way, they will be attracted by flesh and spirit, and will chase, kill and Devouring.
Based on these patterns, Lumian no longer instructed passersby to seek refuge in distant Church. Instead, he told them to avoid hospitals, Cemetery, and other such places, and instead find nearby Bar, Dance Hall, or houses where no one had recently died and stay there for two or three hours.
After stopping and starting intermittently, and launching only two of the Reddish-White Fireball he had condensed, Lumian returned to the port and boarded the "Flying Bird."
Philip was resting his hand on the gunwale, gazing at the area around the Governor's Mansion.
"What happened?" he asked Lumian.
"How would I know?" Lumian replied, amused.
Philip immediately changed the subject:
Have you encountered anything unusual?
Lumian then briefly explained the explosion in the direction of the Governor's Mansion and the suddenly Resurrection Corpse.
"Summon the Living Corpse?" Philip frowned slightly, muttering to himself.
Before Lumian could comment, he sighed and said, "Only the first day of this voyage went smoothly. On the second day, we encountered the ' Bonebreaker,' and on the third day at noon, we were attacked by the ' Death Navigator.' By nightfall—no, in the early hours of the fourth day— the Falin Port was plagued by Living Corpse again..."
"We still have six more days until we reach Santa Port..."
Lumian felt a pang of guilt upon hearing this.
Theoretically speaking, his attraction to Calamity, or the Calamity attracting him, shouldn't be this frequent. Even in Trier, he didn't encounter a Mysticism event every day. If that were the case, "007" would have died of a sudden death long ago.
Encountering one or two Calamity during the journey is understandable, but considering the Mad Sickness in Daddel, it feels like it happens every day... Could it be that some unclean thing is following me, and all of this is brought about, caused, and Aggregation by it? And the Calamity I've encountered are essentially the same thing, and that is it? The more Lumian thought about it, the more he felt it was necessary to write a letter to the "Magician" Lady to see if such frequent Calamity concealed some problem.
"Perhaps the Living Corpse outbreak was caused by that big problem that was originally on the ship. This means it's gone from the ' Flying Bird,' and our journey ahead will be peaceful," Lumian casually reassured Philip.
He himself didn't seem very confident saying that.
"Hope," Philip said, arms outstretched, in Devout prayer, "Praise the Sun!"
Lumian didn't rush back to First Class, he stood by the ship's railing and looked out at the situation in Falin Port.
The official tacit approval of the pirate trade in the Sea of Fog Archipelago brought some chaos and crime, but it also resulted in a much larger number of Beyonder compared to ordinary Intis cities. They quickly organized resistance, clearing the Living Corpse from different streets and effectively reducing casualties among citizens and travelers.
Whether pirates or adventurers took advantage of the chaos to rob banks and gold shops, or killed enemies and humiliated innocent people, remains unknown.
In less than 15 minutes, the commotion in the area where the explosion occurred subsided, and Official Beyonder spread out to deal with the unrest in other streets.
"Good, nothing serious happened, it was brought under control in time." Philip looked away and breathed a sigh of relief.
"You can say this, but I can't..." Lumian chuckled self-deprecatingly.
Only then did Philip feel comfortable chatting casually:
"You went to Falin to drink?"
"Yes," Lumian said with a smile, "I also took on a Commission."
"What Commission?" Philip asked casually.
"A pirate Hunting, a pirate called ' Black Lord '," Lumian said without hiding anything.
Philip's eyes narrowed, and he frowned as he retorted, "Are you sure you're stronger than ' Black Lord '? He has a ship and hundreds of Subordinate!"
"Besides, even if you do find an opportunity to assassinate him, aren't you afraid of the ' King of Dusk's ' revenge? He's one of the kings of the sea!"
"Accepting Commission doesn't mean I'll actually do it. I don't even know where to find ' Black Lord ' Clas Kitz, is that the name?" Lumian didn't care at all about the possible revenge from the "King of Dusk".
There is more than one Saint who wants to deal with him!
Seeing that Louis Berri seemed to have casually accepted the task and would consider doing it later, Philip did not continue the topic.
The following morning.
The security supervisor had just finished breakfast when Subordinate Sailor told him:
The Governor's Mansion ordered the port to be temporarily closed, and all ships were prohibited from leaving!
Philip resisted the urge to stand up abruptly and asked in a deep voice, "What are those soldiers in the harbor doing?"
"Searching ship by ship," the Sailor replied truthfully when asked.
Lumian, in cabin number 5 of First Class, glanced at the chaotic port where troops were entering and continued writing letters to Jenna and Franca:
"Something seems to have happened at Falin Port Saint Tique Island in the Sea of Fog Archipelago. Ask that That One if they know the details."
As he wrote this, Lumian raised his right hand and tapped his chest four times in a sequence of up, down, left, and right, just like Mr. K had done, whispering sympathetically, "Poor '007'."
