Appearance
- Natural features: Long brownish-yellow or tawny hair and blue eyes. Without stage makeup, she has a fresh, youthful appearance 155 216 402.
- Performance styling: Heavy eye makeup, vivid lips, revealing sequined dresses, and movable beauty patches. She explains that different patch placements convey meanings such as passion or seductiveness in Trier fashion 155.
- After becoming a Witch: Her beauty and charm increase enough that she briefly becomes captivated by her own reflection 441.
- Witch attire: Adopts dark dresses, cloaks, and soft hats to appear reserved and mysterious. She initially avoids an obvious hooded witch’s robe to reduce the risk of attracting the Witch Sect’s attention 535.
- Dream City appearance: Uses black hair, brown eyes, and softer features. Her clothing ranges from a T-shirt and jeans to understated audition attire 910 968.
Personality
Jenna is outspoken, frequently swears, and enjoys teasing people she finds attractive. Her flirtatious stage persona does not mean she casually pursues sexual relationships; even early acquaintances recognize that much of her behavior is teasing 155 173. Franca considers her comparatively conservative by Trier standards 660.
She is hardworking, frugal, and fiercely protective of her independence. Before her mother’s medical crisis, she refused to borrow from Franca or ask her to arrange easy, well-paid work. Even after receiving substantial help with potions, she insisted on repayment rather than accepting everything as a gift 240 309.
Protecting her family and friends increasingly determines her decisions. Although she wishes for an ordinary, peaceful life, she admits that possessing supernatural power makes it impossible for her to ignore injustice or the suffering of people close to her 287. She is ruthless toward dangerous cultists but does not equate dark powers with inherently bad deeds 442 736.
Jenna is exceptionally decisive when she commits to a course of action, sometimes staking everything on one attempt. This courage also conceals self-destructive tendencies that persist after her mother’s death 660 847 853. Alongside that recklessness, she develops considerable emotional insight, particularly in recognizing Franca’s loneliness and the importance of maintaining relationships that can stabilize a Beyonder 858 939.
History
Singer and Acting Apprentice
Jenna grew up in Trier and worked between Market District ballrooms while studying theater at the Old Pigeon Cage. Her acting and makeup lessons helped her develop the seductive persona she used as an underground singer 214 215 240.
She performed as the Exaggerated Woman, a name also associated with an older singer who had looked after her. Jenna continued visiting that woman after sexual assault and psychological trauma led to her admission to Delta Insane Asylum 264 402.
Hedsey drugged and abducted Jenna, intending to assault her. Lumian intervened, killed him, and restored Jenna’s strength using an irritating gas. She subsequently learned that Hedsey and her theater were connected to the Bliss Society and the Mother Tree of Desire 160 162 215.
Family Tragedy and Hugues Artois
The Goodwell Chemical Factory disaster devastated Jenna’s family. Her mother, Elodie, died, while her brother, Julian, suffered severe psychological breakdowns. Jenna cared for him and sought help even when his apparent calm proved temporary 240 250 258.
At Hugues Artois’s banquet, Jenna blamed him for bringing disaster to the Market District, killing her mother, and driving Julian insane. She attacked him with a silver fork during a distraction, successfully assassinated him, and escaped with a gunshot wound 258 263.
Her wanted portrait bore almost no resemblance to her, allowing her to continue acting lessons and ballroom work. The Purifiers later explained that their deliberate negligence had helped her escape Artois’s office. Recognizing her assistance against a cultist, they recruited her as an informant rather than arresting her 264 297.
Becoming an Instigator and Witch
After digesting Assassin, Jenna accepted that further advancement was necessary to protect Julian and her companions 278. She requested Instigator ingredients as payment for intelligence and advanced with Franca and Lumian present 297 309.
Her acting increasingly focused on understanding people and choosing who should bear the consequences of instigation. She helped recover her father’s compensation and encouraged an underpaid actress to move to a better-paying theater 373 401.
When warned of another possible disaster in Trier, Jenna chose to remain with her companions but persuaded Julian to leave for Leucer Harbor. She then advanced to Witch in the Catacombs, where she first heard the sigh associated with Krismona 423 440 441.
Painted World and Tarot Club
Following instructions from a powerful boy later identified as Will, Jenna ambushed a mechanically modified monk underground and seized supplies linked to the group’s investigation of the Hostel. She received a Lucky Gold Coin as payment 455 456 457 458 459.
She subsequently fell into an artificial Market District within the Painted World. Recognizing that its inhabitants followed fixed routines, she killed her double, took its clothes, and concealed herself from searchers. When prayer to the Eternal Blazing Sun received no answer, she used the coin to appeal to Mr. Fool 460 461.
After escaping the wider disaster, Jenna reported to the Purifiers, confirmed that Charles was Lumian Lee, and negotiated help obtaining Pleasure ingredients. At Mr. Fool’s church, Judgement brought her into the Minor Arcana and assigned her to investigate special Mirror Worlds, beginning with Krismona 498 499.
Pleasure, Pain, and Personal Relationships
Jenna initially offered intimacy to help Franca digest Pleasure while clearly stating that she did not love her romantically 655. After becoming a Pleasure Witch herself, she pursued a relationship with Lumian, unwilling to risk parting from him with regrets 833 847.
The resulting conflict forced Jenna and Franca to discuss their feelings directly. Jenna accepted Franca’s revelation that she had transmigrated and had previously been a man. She described Franca as her best friend, a protective older sister, and someone whose bond with her would outlast romantic love 853 854.
During her Witch of Pain advancement, Jenna questioned Krismona about purely female Witches. Krismona revealed that they encountered something terrifying in the Mirror World—and that this encounter had caused her own death 893.
Dream City Investigation
In Dream City, Jenna combined acting, observation, and Witch abilities to support the team’s investigation. She questioned figures connected to the Dream Tutoring Class and helped protect Rosanne and the surveillance screen during combat 918 925.
Transporting an anomalous painting nearly killed her: it attacked her through drowning and falling visions while preventing her from safely leaving the dream. Sunlight broke the vision, and the driver who delivered her to the Star Dream General Store revealed a crystal monocle 946 949.
Her audition at Hall Film Company impressed the interviewers without her using Fascination. Investigating the actor cast as Gehrman Sparrow then uncovered the unexplained absence of the originally intended actor’s name from available records, leading the team toward An Xiaotian 968.
Demigod and Disease Church Pope
Jenna declined an opportunity to switch to Iron-Blooded Knight, choosing to continue as a purely female Witch despite the known risks 1038. With her companions’ assistance, she performed the Witch of Despair ritual in Banishment City and became a demigod 1058 1065.
During the operation against the Moses Ascetic Order, she was assigned to eliminate depraved low- and mid-Sequence warlocks and bring them despair rather than join the deepest fighting in Utopia 1065.
She also worked with her companions on a plan for Julian to encounter and choose the Generalist pathway naturally 1076 1077. Meanwhile, Disease Church believers were introduced to her as their Pope, providing anchors and a basis for incorporating her into the church’s doctrine 1078.
Sacrifice in the Special Mirror World
When a dangerous mutation trapped Lumian in the Special Mirror World, Amon offered Jenna a possible rescue: prematurely advance to Witch of Unaging and draw the great terror onto herself. He explicitly warned that the attempt was uncertain and would kill her regardless of whether it succeeded. Mr. Fool told her that she could refuse 1109.
Jenna realized that her advancement, apparent safety from the Witch Sect, and insistence on remaining a purely female Witch had been manipulated toward making her a sacrifice. Nevertheless, she accepted the choice 1109.
She drank the potion, asked Anthony to tell Franca to live well for her, and approached her mirror self. Realizing that the reflection also wished to sacrifice herself for Lumian, Jenna embraced her. The resulting events destabilized Lumian’s fusion and brought down the barrier around the Special Mirror World; Jenna’s final depicted experience was sinking into peaceful, dreamlike darkness 1110.
Abilities & Skills
Assassin Techniques
Jenna’s earliest powers support stealth, infiltration, and sudden close-range attacks.
- Conceals herself in darkness and shadows and can see in the dark 173 279.
- Possesses enhanced physical capabilities and can quickly disarm and throw an armed guard 360.
- Uses daggers, firearms, and improvised weapons; her assassination of Artois was carried out with a fork 258 297.
- Concealment does not eliminate every trace: Lumian detects her perfume while she is hiding 173.
- Witch movement favors bursts of speed rather than sustained pursuit; she cannot reliably follow a moving car on foot 936.
Instigation
Instigator grants Jenna supernatural influence alongside improved understanding of people’s intentions 309.
- Uses insight into conflicts and motives rather than relying exclusively on the ability itself 401.
- Establishes the principle that instigation is a means, not an end 401.
- Recognizes that instigation inevitably brings disaster, making the choice of who bears that disaster central to her acting 401.
Witchcraft and Survival
Becoming a Witch gives Jenna a broad set of offensive, defensive, and ritual abilities 441.
- Black Flames: Burn Spirit Bodies and spirituality; can also consume the spirituality of supernatural restraints 441 918.
- Frost: Gains frost-related powers upon advancement 441.
- Black Magic: Uses prepared materials for invisibility and other spells, and can curse targets through mediums such as blood 441.
- Mirror Magic: Includes anti-divination and mirror substitutes capable of intercepting attacks 441 918.
- Wand substitutes: Can use wands as substitutes 441.
- Spiritism: Knows relevant rituals but initially lacks practical experience and prefers leaving dangerous questioning to Lumian and Franca 458.
- Limits: Her invisibility has a limited duration at Sequence 7. Even later, her individual attacks lack the burst lethality available through curses or Full-Force Strike 456 1074.
Charm and Acting
Jenna develops her performance skills through formal theater study and practical experience as a singer.
- Can project allure through expression and posture alone, impressing film-company interviewers without using Fascination 968.
- Uses acting to pose as an ordinary person while concealing her darkvision and supernatural capabilities 934.
- Adjusts makeup and clothing to emphasize, redirect, or conceal her supernatural charm 441 848.
- Avoids using prolonged Fascination merely for convenience when doing so would unnecessarily affect an uninvolved person 936.
Special Mirror World Fragments
- Creates a Shallow Mirror Image that can persist long enough to mislead Zarathustra while her real body remains elsewhere 978.
- Possesses three fragments that Amon identifies as usable for her premature Witch of Unaging advancement 1109.
Equipment & Items
- Bloodsucker’s Arrow / Obsidian Broken Arrow — Embeds it in her chest to enhance herself in dangerous encounters. Extended or repeated use risks weakness from blood loss and bodily collapse 457 458 489.
- Lucky Gold Coin — Given by Will after her underground assignment. Carried for its effect and later used when praying to Mr. Fool inside the Painted World 459 461.
- Judgement card — Allows her to request Judgement’s aid by reciting “Request judgement” in Hermetic. Both must be in Trier; locations such as Fourth Epoch Trier are excluded 499.
