The strange patient
Late Night, amidst another round of cheers for the magic trick, Lumian finished his Sugar Wine and left the Bar with a smile.
He could already imagine that if Aurora were here, she would definitely say:
"You're so boring! You actually used the Authority and power of the ' Governor of the Sea ' to perform a 'magic trick,' using real things to fool those drunkards into thinking they were fake. Is this your prank? You're having so much fun, aren't you?"
Lumian answered silently, "Isn't it what you expect that you'd use your extraordinary power, the Authority of the ' Governor of the Sea,' for such things, instead of in battle?"
"Isn't this the happiness and Future you've been longing for?"
In the corridor lit by Kerosene Wall Lamps, Lumian walked step by step back to her First Class Suite in the quiet, deserted environment, her footsteps creaking on the floor.
Snoring and groans occasionally escaped through the walls from both sides. Near the stairs, a room had its door open, casting a dim, yellowish light.
As Lumian passed by, he glanced at the wall and saw a Life Holy Emblem representing the "Earth Mother" engraved on the wall Depths the room—a simple baby amidst symbols such as Wheat Ears, flowers, and springs.
Standing before the Life Holy Emblem was a man in a brown Priest's robe. He was not yet thirty years old, with clean-shaven features that suggested youth, and a light brown beard. He held a thick book in his hand and was Sermon to the men and women sitting in different parts of the room.
Lumian knew this was a "prayer room," essentially a small, mobile Church, staffed by dedicated Clergy —a common practice in countries that worship only one Deity, where even long-distance ships and Steam trains take into account the needs of believers for quiet prayer and listening to teachings.
Lumian could now understand most of the Highland Language, remembered phrases such as "Life is precious, a good harvest is joyful." He looked away, entered the stairwell, and climbed the stairs step by step.
At the same time, Lugano, who had just finished taking care of Ludwig's late-night snack, heard a knocking sound at the door.
"Who?" Lugano asked, somewhat surprised but also expectant.
This is definitely not the employer; he has Key and would open the door directly.
It's almost 11 p. m. now, who would visit someone at this hour?
Could it be that some lady overheard my boasting on the deck, believed it, and came to ask me to share a wonderful night?
Just as a fleeting romantic thought crossed Lugano's mind, he heard a rather weak Men voice:
"I've come to see Doctor. Lugano."
Find Doctor... Lugano frowned slightly, but still opened the door.
Outside stood a man wrapped in a thick woolen overcoat, a stark contrast to Lugano, who wore Linen Shirt and thin trousers.
Lugano sized up the visitor a few times:
"I am Lugano. What can I do for you?"
The man was Paleness, with dark circles under his eyes, and only a little bit of life showed in his brown Eyes. He was not old, only in his early twenties, but Aura of Death.
The man gasped for breath and said weakly, "You can call me Ennio. I heard that you helped several people on deck discover the true cause of their illnesses and their conditions improved rapidly. I would like to ask you to treat me."
"I have the money to pay for the consultation."
Seeing that the man looked like he was about to die, Lugano sighed and said, "Come in, but keep your voice down. You know I'm the private Doctor of a certain celebrity, and he doesn't like being disturbed by strangers."
Once Ennio was seated on the sofa, Lugano habitually inquired about his illness, concealing his impending Mysticism diagnosis:
What's wrong with your health?
Ennio paused for a few seconds before saying, "Starting about two weeks ago, I've become sensitive to cold, weak, and have lost my appetite. I also have a persistent runny nose and cough, and it's getting worse."
"Hmm..." Lugano nodded, raising his right hand and lightly tapping his forehead, seemingly pondering what the patient's self-report could mean.
In fact, he took the opportunity to activate his "Spirit Vision," intending to directly discern the location of the other person's illness from the color, brightness, and thickness of their Ether Body.
Lugano was so startled by just one glance that he almost jumped up:
Is the patient sitting in front of me even alive?
In Lugano's eyes, the white that enveloped Ennio's entire Ether Body, representing overall balance, had turned grayish-black, a sign that his condition was severe and he was close to death.
This wasn't what shocked or astonished Lugano; what terrified him most was:
The orange color on the other person's body, which represents the health of organs such as excretion and detoxification, has turned completely dark black and lost all its brightness. This indicates that the corresponding parts have long since lost their function and are no longer playing any role!
Similarly, the yellow representing the digestive system, the green representing the heart and regulatory system, and the blue representing the throat and part of the nervous system have all turned dark and lost their luster.
The only remaining colors on Ennio's body were the red on his hands and feet and the purple on the surface of his head.
What do these "inspection results" mean?
This means that Ennio is a person whose heart has stopped beating, whose intestines have stopped moving, and whose internal organs have all lost their function, but who can still think, move, and speak!
"You son of a bitch, where did this Monster come from!" Lugano cursed inwardly, trembling slightly as he encountered this kind of "Patient" for the first time.
He was very afraid that the other person would suddenly say:
"Doctor, I'm so cold, could you lend me your skin to wrap myself in? Doctor, I want to eat, could you lend me your stomach and intestines...?"
Seeing Lugano remain silent, Ennio asked worriedly, "Doctor, what exactly is wrong with me?"
"Illness?" Lugano muttered to himself in a frenzy.
Wake up! A person whose heart has stopped beating and whose blood is not flowing will naturally feel cold!
People with sluggish digestive systems definitely won't have much of an appetite!
After a moment's thought, Lugano paused and said, "Your problem is serious. I need to do further analysis and observation before I can draw a conclusion. Would you like to come see me again tomorrow morning?"
"Of course, before that, I need to draw some of your blood for research."
"No problem." Although Ennio wasn't very confident about Lugano, he still extended his right hand, thinking that it was better to give it a try than to do nothing.
With his tools complete, Lugano used a needle, rubber tubing, and glass blood collection bottle to draw a little blood from Ennio. He found that although the blood was dark in color, it still had basic vitality. Then, he listened to the other man's heartbeat and heard a weak, but real, thumping sound in his ears.
Strange... Lugano, taking advantage of the opportunity to listen to the patient's heart and prescribe medicine, quietly made his palm shimmer with light and gave Ennio a simple treatment.
Ennio immediately perked up, and his strength seemed to have returned somewhat.
"Thank you, Doctor! Your massage and medicine are very effective. Thank you so much!" Ennio left the Suite with a happy expression.
None of the Doctor he had seen before could improve his condition even slightly. This time, he planned to travel by boat to the south and then take Steam train to the headquarters of the "Earth Mother" Church for treatment.
After watching Ennio leave with a mixture of surprise and uncertainty, Lugano finally saw his employer return.
He quickly told Lumian what had just happened, and concluded by saying, "I got his blood. Could you have someone Divination the truth?"
"Divination?" Lumian chuckled, took the blood collection bottle containing a small amount of blood, and knocked on the door of Ludwig's nursery.
"Take a sip and see what knowledge you can gain?" Lumian, with the mindset of not letting go of any opportunity to utilize it, handed the blood collection bottle to Ludwig.
Ludwig's expression didn't Change much; he just gulped down the liquid in the blood collection bottle as if it were nothing more than drinking his bedtime Milk.
Lugano looked completely bewildered, his eyes filled with surprise and confusion.
After tasting the blood for a moment, Ludwig said in a measured tone, "Missing stomach, missing small and large intestines, missing lungs, missing liver and pancreas..."
"Equivalent to the dead, living on through Mysticism powers..."
"It will die completely within a week..."
This... Lugano was both surprised that Ludwig not only drank human blood but also made many judgments in a serious manner, and astonished that Ennio really didn't have those organs anymore.
He initially thought it was just a matter of losing the corresponding function.
According to Ludwig, isn't Ennio just a dead man?
What exactly happened to him?
"What should we do?" Lugano looked at Lumian.
Lumian chuckled:
"What can we do? Go find the captain, the ship's safety officer, or report this to the priest in the prayer room; they will handle it."
Lugano nodded first, then hesitated and said, "But wouldn't this expose that I'm Beyonder?"
"Just tell them you are Louis Berri's servant," Lumian said calmly.
"Alright." Lugano didn't mind the servant's words, thought for a moment, and asked with suspicion, "Have you heard any strange noises at night? I occasionally hear babies crying."
"A baby?" Lumian asked, shaking his head. "Didn't hear you."
Lugano muttered to himself:
Is there a baby crying on this floor?
He then looked at Lumian:
"Shall I go find the captain now?"
Lumian's Eyes flickered slightly, and he smiled, saying, "Tomorrow morning then."
"Okay." Lugano agreed without hesitation.
He wanted to wait until dawn and Sun before doing this, otherwise, reporting such a strange question in the Evernight always made him feel that something unexpected might happen.
The Sun makes him feel safe!
Lumian didn't ask any more questions or give any more instructions. He went into his room, washed up, and went to bed.
But he didn't sleep; instead, he kept his eyes half-closed, waiting for something.
After an unknown amount of time, Lumian heard a faint creaking sound.
The door to one of the rooms was gently opened.
Lumian suddenly sat up, silently rushed to the door, and quietly pushed the door open a crack, which was not completely closed to begin with.
He saw Daoist slowly emerge from Lugano's servants' quarters.
That was Lugano, wearing Linen Shirt. His eyes were open, but unusually Cavern and unfocused, and his face was expressionless.
Lugano walked towards the Suite door as if in a daze.
