A new residence
"Holy crap, what a coincidence!" Franca blurted out after extracting the key information from the news.
Yesterday afternoon, Lumian first encountered Zhou Mingrui, the Dream Image of "The Fool." Last night, Thunderstorm caused four people to be missing from the Intis Group's Security Department.
Is this a chain reaction of Dream Change triggered by contact, or is someone orchestrating it behind the scenes?
"I don't know if this symbolizes good or bad..." Jenna murmured with concern after reading the news.
Lumian was quite composed:
"Whether it's good or bad, becoming an employee of the Intis Group and Zhou Mingrui's colleague is something we have to do. No problem, we have to go; no problem, we still have to go!"
With the Intis Group interview looming, Lumian and his group went out after lunch to find a real estate agent and look for a new place to stay.
According to the pre-arranged plan, they will carry out the next action individually or in pairs, without interfering with or affecting each other, so as to avoid the whole team being eliminated if one person is eliminated.
--During the observation phase, the risks are minimal, and they can act together. However, during the contact and probing phase, every step could potentially draw the attention of the Celestial Worthy Venerable.
This time, Lumian and her friends chose Dechuang Jiayuan, which is three subway stops away from their current neighborhood. It is a neighborhood with only five years of history, and its facilities are still very new. The surrounding shops include many big brands and popular online stores.
They chose this location because information provided by the Major Arcana indicated that Rosanne, an employee of the Intis Group's Administration Department with a real-life counterpart, was renting here.
She is also a target that needs to be approached and tested.
Inside the community lobby, the Sunlight -reflecting marble floor and several sets of gray sofas complement each other, exuding a clean, bright, and subtly luxurious ambiance.
"A one-bedroom apartment costs two thousand a month." Jenna grumbled with heartache as she watched the real estate agent and Landlord leave.
This is almost as expensive as their current three-bedroom apartment.
The rent difference between houses in different locations and those that are older is surprisingly large!
"I'll rent it even if it's expensive!" Franca said through Teeth.
I absolutely have to cash that lottery ticket tomorrow!
That's another six thousand in expenses!
--Although That One Landlord and real estate agent were both Men, Jenna didn't use any "Fascination" when bargaining. She even relied on "Lie" and Makeup skills to make herself seem a bit ordinary. She only relied on her "Instigation" ability to get a discount of two hundred dollars in rent and a month's prepayment.
Lumian nodded slightly, agreeing with Franca's attitude.
In his view, as long as it is to complete the task and within one's ability, the money that needs to be spent should be spent, no matter how painful it is!
With a quick glance, he noticed a Vending Machine in the corner of the community lobby, with very stylishly designed beverage bottles inside.
Remembering the hints in the materials, Lumian Past and saw that apart from a few bottles of drinks used for display, the rest of the products were all packed in boxes, and she could only choose blindly.
He was extremely familiar with the names of these new beverages:
"Seer, Assassin, Bard, Sleepless..."
"They're all Potion names..." Franca followed, took a breath, and whispered, "They can't all be real, can they?"
She also remembered the "Fully Automatic Vending Machine" and "Fully Automatic Wish Machine" mentioned in the information.
Lumian examined the Vending Machine carefully for a few seconds, then chuckled and said, "The highest Sequence 7, and the selection isn't extensive. If it had ' War Bishop ' or ' Witch of Unaging,' I'd be willing to spend a few thousand to empty this Machine."
"Even if I had it, I couldn't digest it." Franca took out her phone and was about to scan the QR code on the screen.
She said eagerly, "Let's see what I can draw."
"Based on the Convergence Law of Beyonder Characteristics, you will most likely only be able to draw items related to ' Witch ' and ' Hunter '," Jenna calmly reminded you.
Franca chuckled:
"The point isn't what you extract, but rather to extract a bottle, test it on a Rat, and see if it really is Potion."
As they spoke, Franca scanned the code and paid five dollars.
Thud, a blind box is pushed out and lands at the pickup slot.
After Franca took it out, she opened it and found that the bottle was dark black, with some areas protruding and outlining the face of a roaring wolf.
"Sleepless!"
"Huh, Evernight Pathway?" Franca asked, quite surprised. "Not a ' Hunter,' nor a ' Witch '?"
She then found the explanation herself:
"My Sequence isn't high enough, and I lack Divinity, so the Aggregation effect doesn't seem to be very good."
After packing the Sleepless drink into the "Traveler's Bag," Franca suddenly laughed:
"Actually, you can make a Sleepless drink normally, just add as much caffeine and theophylline as possible!"
The group didn't linger in the vending machine area. They walked through the lobby and headed towards Building Five —the house they had rented was there.
As Lumian stepped out of the lobby, a thought struck him, and he naturally turned back to look at the vending machine.
The corresponding corner was completely empty.
The Machine that sells Potion potions is gone!
"As expected..." He wasn't surprised at all.
Franca and the others followed his gaze, and they too felt that the inevitable ending had finally come to pass.
As evening fell, Jenna, who had settled down in Dechuang Garden, sat on a chair in the entrance area of Building Five, patiently waiting for her target to appear.
After an unknown amount of time, she saw the figure she had observed earlier through the glass of the front door.
Jenna stood up very naturally and tucked the stray strands of hair behind her ear.
She paced back and forth until a pretty young woman in her early twenties, wearing a light green, flowing Long Dress, with dyed brown hair, and carrying a white handbag, walked in.
Jenna "just happened" to move to a position where she could meet the other person face to face, her face showing surprise and a hint of shyness as she asked, "Hello, do you know how to get to the community activity room?"
That One girl in the green dress was Rosanne, Zhou Mingrui's colleague and an employee in the Administration Department of the Intis Group. She kindly pointed in a direction:
"Go out through the east gate, and it will be on your left."
"Thank you," Jenna said sincerely, with a slight smile.
She had removed her previous makeup and was now using "Fascination," which had been suppressed to Sequence 7.
That smile, like a hundred flowers in full bloom, made Rosanne's eyes light up.
Rosanne blinked, a look of appreciation on her face.
"You're so beautiful..."
Before Jenna could even feign modesty, Rosanne asked with both enthusiasm and sincerity, "Could you be my model?"
"I study painting in my spare time, and I'm pretty good at it. I especially enjoy painting beautiful people and landscapes."
"I will pay!"
Drawing... A throbbing pain shot through Jenna's temple, triggering unpleasant memories.
For her, being a "Painter" was a truly terrifying profession.
She once killed her own version of herself within the Painted World.
Was Rosanne in her Dream corrupted and influenced by That One Evil God of the "Fantasy Society"? Jenna instinctively shook her head:
"I'm sorry, I don't have any plans to become a model at the moment."
"What a pity! I'm quite good at drawing. I'll show you my work later; maybe you'll change your mind." Rosanne took out her phone and asked with a smile, "You're new here, right? I've lived here for years and have never met a girl as beautiful as you. Let's add each other on WeChat?"
Jenna had originally planned to find an excuse to add Rosanne on WeChat, but she didn't expect to do it today. It was too fast and seemed a bit off!
After a few seconds of hesitation, she said tentatively, "I'm a tenant."
"What's wrong with being a tenant? I used to be a tenant too," Rosanne said, indicating that it was nothing.
"Okay." Jenna deliberately made herself appear somewhat weak, not very good at refusing other people's kindness and enthusiasm.
When adding her on WeChat, she specifically chose "chat only".
This was to make it seem like he was reluctant to add strangers and didn't intend to add Rosanne as a friend.
After wandering around the activity room outside the east gate of the community and finding a place to eat a rice bowl, Jenna realized that it was already dark.
She returned to her Rented Apartment on the Twenty-Third Floor and closed the door.
She will be staying here alone for the next two days.
After turning on the star-shaped main light, Jenna's gaze swept over the gray and orange sofa, the simple yet beautiful decor, the gleaming metallic window frames, and the Bed in the bedroom, its light-colored blankets barely visible...
Compared to the three-bedroom apartment that Lumian and the others are currently renting, this one-bedroom apartment is significantly newer and better decorated, simple yet sophisticated.
Jenna walked to the window, her fingers tracing the white dining table, the side wall covered with fabric-like wallpaper, the artistic table lamp, the long-necked vase with plastic Flowers, and the cold edge of the window, before turning her gaze outside:
Buildings of varying heights are scattered among the crisscrossing roads, most of their windows emitting warm light that mingles with the beams of light from the endless stream of cars on the road.
"How beautiful..." Jenna exclaimed sincerely as she looked down at the scene.
She walked back to the sofa area, her steps becoming slightly lighter.
Once we have the money, we'll let Lumian and Franca rent houses like this too!
Jenna sat down, calmly awaiting the possible abnormalities that might arise from her contact with Rosanne.
As time ticked by, she started scrolling through her phone.
She saw someone reviewing the movie "Great Pirate 3":
"Three beautiful female pirates surrounded him, and he had ambiguous relationships with each of them, but in the end he only took away a foolish Sailor? Damn it, refund my money!"
Upon seeing this comment, Jenna was momentarily bewildered.
She didn't see anything wrong with that part of the story.
She knew this would be the final outcome from the very beginning of the scene:
Gehrman Sparrow is the incarnation of "The Fool" and his Divine Emissary. He meets with Danitz, another Divine Emissary of "The Fool," and they leave together. Isn't that a normal and logical development?
In reality, Gehrman Sparrow did not end up with any of the three Women Pirate Admiral!
Jenna felt that the flaw in that scene was that the Divine Emissary Danitz didn't play his proper role; he was like a minor supporting character.
Next, Jenna played on her phone for nearly two hours without any abnormalities appearing.
She glanced at the time, stood up, and headed to the bathroom to quickly tidy herself up.
She had just turned on the bathroom light when she suddenly heard a buzzing sound.
The entire house was suddenly plunged into darkness.
All the lights went out.
