Background / History
Tang San begins as a Shrek Academy student closely attached to Xiao Wu. When she disappears after going to collect money from Spirit Hall, he organizes the Shrek Seven Devils’ search and concludes that she may have gone to confront Xue Tianyu for revenge. 23 24
At Tianshui Academy, Xue Tianyu’s claims about Xiao Wu provoke Tang San into attempting an attack, though Dai Mubai restrains him. When Xue Tianyu demands one hundred kowtows in exchange for seeing Xiao Wu, Tang San initially agrees before attempting to renegotiate the condition. 25 30 31 Tang Hao’s arrival temporarily gives Tang San hope, but Xue Tianyu defeats Tang Hao despite the Clear Sky Douluo’s intervention. 44 47
Afterward, Tang Hao reveals his conflict with Spirit Hall and the Clear Sky Sect’s sealed status. Tang San requests Ah Yin’s Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Bone, promising to restore the sect and avenge his father. 77 His standing rises further when Tang Chen returns to the Clear Sky Sect, proposes him as the next Sect Master, and supports his eventual appointment as Master of the newly formed Clear Sky Alliance. 233 239
Seeking greater power, Tang San hunts Da Ming and Er Ming at the Lake of Life, wielding the Asura Devil Sword against them. Bibi Dong interrupts the hunt, and Tang San is ultimately outmatched in their clash. 246 247 His later attempt to reclaim Xiao Wu fails when he refuses Xue Tianyu’s condition of self-castration; Xiao Wu then chooses to remain with Xue Tianyu. 254 255 An Imprint Stone subsequently exposes Tang San and Tang Hao discussing Xiao Wu as a potential Spirit Ring, destroying Xiao Wu’s remaining trust in him. 259 260
As Alliance Master, Tang San leads the Clear Sky Alliance’s war against Spirit Hall and demonstrates enough Asura Divine Power to defeat seven Titled Douluo during the invasion of Spirit City. 290 291 He later undergoes the Sea God’s trials and inherits the Sea God Position, but Xue Tianyu continues to overwhelm him despite his new divine power. 363 410 412
Following Tang Chen’s death, Tang San resolves to complete his Asura God inheritance and continue the struggle against Xue Tianyu. 427 He secures the Star Luo Empire’s cooperation, takes its throne, renames it the Clear Sky Empire, and rules as the Clear Sky Great Emperor. 436 483
Personality
Tang San is intensely possessive of Xiao Wu, repeatedly framing her as someone who can only belong to him. Her refusal to return to him drives much of his desire to surpass Xue Tianyu and obtain greater power. 224 255 256
His pride frequently conflicts with his stated devotion. He hesitates over Xue Tianyu’s demand for one hundred kowtows, then later refuses to meet the condition required to take Xiao Wu away, citing the continuation of the Tang family line. 30 31 255 He also becomes willing to treat spirit beasts, including Xiao Wu, as potential sources of Spirit Rings if they cannot be possessed otherwise. 259 260
Tang San grows increasingly arrogant as he gains Asura and Sea God power. He challenges the entire Clear Sky Sect, dismisses the Sea God’s status, and threatens Sea God Island’s inhabitants when they resist him. 233 363 377 Despite his confidence, Tang Chen notes that Tang San’s practical combat experience is lacking after his defeat by the Seventh Elder. 235
As a leader, he is calculating and ruthless. He proposes targeting Xue Tianyu’s loved ones to exploit perceived weaknesses, later orders his Titled Douluo away from the front lines to draw out a Spirit Empire assault and gain faith power. 315 489
