Background / History
Plate-Carrying Maid of Sunset Village
The earlier Maid Ghost was born into poverty and hired by the Sickly Ghost, a clan elder who wanted to possess her. His jealous wife used a broken plate as an excuse to murder her. She became a vengeful ghost whose obsession took the form of an impossible plate-counting challenge 148.
When she confronted Lin Luo and Bai Qianqian, Lin Luo destroyed the endlessly multiplying plates and answered that none remained. This dispelled her obsession. After thanking him and hearing his promise not to spare the household’s ghosts, she vanished; Lin Luo received a detailed map of the haunted house 148.
This maid’s death and release differ from the Mandragora Manor maid’s history. Their shared designation does not establish that they are the same individual.
Life and Mutilation
The Mandragora Manor maid had served a wealthy household while alive. Her intelligence, competence, and beauty earned her master’s appreciation, provoking the mistress’s jealousy. The mistress drugged her food, cut off both her legs, and forced her to beg. Unable to endure this treatment, she took her own life 231.
Her missing legs continued to impair her after death. Her former mistress also entered the Horror World and became Old Nanny, her direct superior at Mandragora Manor. Old Nanny had attached the stolen legs to her own body 231 235.
The maid’s disability kept her from receiving important duties, while her colleagues ostracized her. Manor rules prevented her from attacking Old Nanny without facing severe punishment 231.
Supervising the Players
At the start of the five-day Mandragora Manor instance, she killed a player who challenged her headcount, then slaughtered the players missing limbs. She distributed Identity Tokens and assigned the survivors their jobs 203.
Her hostility toward Lin Luo intensified after he forced her to provide clean accommodation without payment. She subsequently tried to catch him breaking the attendance rules and accepted Luo Tong’s suggestion to transfer him into the dangerous driver’s job 212 217.
Recovery and Alliance with Lin Luo
Lin Luo offered to restore her legs in exchange for her Nectar. After examining her memories, he also agreed to eliminate Old Nanny in return for a favor and an end to the maid’s harassment 231.
He recovered her legs and returned with Old Nanny’s head. Although the maid initially tried to avoid paying, Lin Luo insisted on receiving the medicine before operating. He successfully reattached both legs and erased the surgical stitches with ghost power 235 240 241.
Afterward, she sincerely acknowledged her debt and offered to resolve his conflict with Fat Ghost. Lin Luo refused because killing another employee would expose her to execution by the butler 242.
She later joined his alliance against Alcoholic Ghost, first helping target his weaker supporters and then participating in the main battle. Despite threats, she refused to abandon Lin Luo 257 293 304.
White Rose Cemetery
Maid Ghost and Chef Ghost accompanied Lin Luo to investigate Madam Rose’s death. At the cemetery entrance, she cracked Wall Ghost with a kick and remained willing to attack even after he invoked a Ghost King backer 306 307.
Inside the cemetery, she identified the imprisoned Xiao Tao but nearly fell under her enthrallment. Lin Luo interrupted the attempt. Later, the cemetery’s cursed power provoked violent urges in both her and Chef Ghost, forcing them to suppress those impulses with ghost power 308 309 312.
She continued supporting Lin Luo against the cemetery’s ghosts. During the battle with the Little Red-Dressed Female Ghost, she saved Chef Ghost with a kick, then fought desperately when the attacker threatened to cut off her restored legs 314 323 327.
Appearance
The manor maid is beautiful, with pale hands, fair skin, and long, straight legs once restored 203 240 253.
- Before surgery: wears a floor-length maid dress to conceal her missing legs 240.
- Movement: floats like smoke while deliberately producing the sound of clicking high heels 203 240.
- After surgery: begins wearing her favorite brightly colored miniskirts 253.
- Plate-carrying namesake: has facial features stitched together with needle and thread, though traces of her former delicate beauty remain 148.
Personality
The manor maid initially treats players as disposable inferiors. She is vindictive toward anyone who defies her, demands excessive payments, and uses workplace rules to threaten people she cannot safely attack outright. Her desire for control developed through mutilation, exclusion, and years of being unable to avenge herself 207 212 217 231.
Her greed does not prevent genuine gratitude. Once Lin Luo restores her legs and eliminates Old Nanny, she comes to regard him as a friend and willingly risks death to help him. She also values cleanliness and skincare: her room is clean and jasmine-scented, and Lin Luo’s offer of whitening ointment immediately interests her 241 257 293.
Abilities & Skills
Ghost Power and Close Combat
Her restored body supports strength beyond that of an ordinary Ghost General 241.
- Decapitates players with her hands and tears out a fleeing worker’s heart 203 207.
- Shatters a door with a palm strike 217.
- Cracks Wall Ghost and knocks the Little Red-Dressed Female Ghost away with kicks 307 327.
- Remains outmatched by stronger opponents: the Little Red-Dressed Female Ghost overwhelms her, Chef Ghost, and Snow Woman together 327.
Spectral Movement
Before regaining her legs, she moves by floating rather than walking 203.
- Appears and disappears like a phantom 207 212.
- Creates high-heel sounds to hide the fact that she has no legs 240.
Workplace Authority
She controls the players’ assignments, wages, and lodging, using the manor’s rules as leverage 203 207 211.
- Executes workers for physical disability, though a 500-Ghost-Coin bribe persuades her to spare Luo Tong 207.
- Transfers jobs and withholds pay for poor performance 217 253.
- Cannot freely attack her own superiors; violence against Old Nanny would constitute punishable insubordination 231.
Plate-Counting Rule — Sunset Village Namesake
The plate-carrying maid traps visitors in a counting task whose stack grows as it is counted 148.
- Failure requires the victim’s organs as collateral.
- Lin Luo defeats the rule by destroying every plate.
- Destruction of the plates also releases the obsession binding her 148.
Susceptibilities
- Enthrallment: nearly falls under Xiao Tao’s control until Lin Luo intervenes 309.
- Cursed influence: cemetery resentment reddens her eyes and intensifies her urge to kill; she can suppress it with ghost power after recognizing the danger 312.
Equipment / Items
- Ghost-aura whip — used against the Little Red-Dressed Female Ghost when she threatens the maid’s legs 327.
- Nectar / Rain Dew — precious medicine traded to Lin Luo for restoring her legs. The exchange identifies it as level 3 Spirit Medicine; it is later delivered to Poppy as Healing Nectar 231 240 257.
Relationships
- Lin Luo — Former adversary, later doctor, friend, and trusted ally. His revenge against Old Nanny and restoration of her legs earn her lasting loyalty 231 241 257 293.
- Old Nanny — Former mistress, mutilator, and direct superior. Steals her legs and remains the central object of her hatred until Lin Luo kills her 231 235 240.
- Chef Ghost — Initially a feared colleague whose reputation forces her to concede to Lin Luo; later a fellow combat ally whom she saves from the Little Red-Dressed Female Ghost 212 327.
- Fat Ghost — Unwanted pursuer and the butler’s only son. She dislikes his persistent advances but initially avoids confrontation because of his father’s authority 241.
- Luo Tong — Subordinate whom she intimidates, accepts bribes from, and briefly cooperates with against Lin Luo 207 217.
- Xiao Tao / Coffin Female Ghost — An acquaintance who recognizes her restored legs, then attempts to enthrall her into releasing her from confinement 308 309.
