Minato Namikaze and Hashirama were revived and returned to Konoha, where the shocked patrol ninjas recognized them. As Hashirama explained the tense standoff between Kirigakure and three major villages, Minato learned that the shinobi world was on the brink of conflict.
Minato learned that Kirigakure had extracted the Yin half of the Nine-Tails from him, leaving Raito with the chakra of all nine Tailed Beasts. After returning to Konoha, Minato found Naruto, while Mei Terumi assigned the Uchiha Clan a dangerous mission to investigate the other villages.
Naruto told Minato that Raito had once been their Konoha classmate and that the village leadership had handed him over to Kirigakure, while Minato struggled to process the revelation. As Sasuke departed Kirigakure, Orochimaru and Obito prepared to hunt him, and Black Zetsu manipulated an Ōtsutsuki clansman into helping resurrect their ancestor’s mother.
Black Zetsu plotted the return of Kaguya while Gekkō Raito fused two Ten-Tails in a sealed chamber. After three months, Glutton evolved into Lord of Gluttony, and Degenerate fully repaired itself.
After emerging from three months of seclusion, Gekkō Raito gave Kyuji Nine-Tails Chakra and learned that the other shinobi villages had sought peace talks with Kirigakure. Mei Terumi explained that the proposed treaty would leave the tailed beasts in Kirigakure but let the other villages reclaim them if Kirigakure broke the peace first.
After agreeing to Kirigakure’s conditions, Gekkō Raito learned that Sasuke Uchiha had vanished and vowed to search the Three Great Shinobi Villages for him. Meanwhile, Obito awakened one Rinnegan in Orochimaru’s laboratory, and Raito prepared to leave Kirigakure with Temari.
Gekkō Raito took Temari and Hinata to Sunagakure, where he sought Sasuke Uchiha and announced his strength with an overwhelming display. He left Gaara and the village’s remaining conscious defenders facing him, with tensions poised to escalate.
Gekkō Raito arrived in Sunagakure, used a vast Water Release to intimidate the village, and questioned Gaara about Sasuke Uchiha’s disappearance. He then inspected Konoha’s sealed-off forest barrier and headed toward Iwagakure, while Minato Namikaze and Naruto Uzumaki sensed his presence.
Mysterious pale invaders attacked Konoha, slaughtering civilians and targeting the Hyuga Clan’s Byakugan. As the Hokage fought their leader, Hiashi urged Neji to escape and seek help, but the attackers pursued him.
Mysterious pale-skinned attackers wielding Byakugan devastated Konoha, leaving Orochimaru, Obito, and Madara to investigate and plan to seize the Nine-Tails amid the chaos. Hashirama was left immobilized after an enemy pierced his heart with a chakra-sealing rod.
Minato and Tsunade abandoned the defense of Konoha as Otsutsuki clansmen and their regenerating puppets overwhelmed the village. Minato escaped with Naruto and headed for Kirigakure, while Madara became interested in the attackers’ familiar scent.
Gekkō Raito intimidated Kumogakure with his lightning and left for Kirigakure while searching for Orochimaru and worrying about Sasuke. In Konoha, the Ōtsutsuki continued their slaughter, and Toneri’s father prepared to transplant Hanabi Hyuga’s eyes into his blind son.
Toneri awakened new eyes that caused him intense pain, while Minato told Gekkō Raito how the Otsutsuki clan had destroyed Konoha. The clan leader prepared to transplant more Byakugan as a golden fluctuation gathered near Konoha, and Gekkō Raito denied responsibility for the attack.
Gekkō Raito explained the Ōtsutsuki Clan’s origins and their connection to the shinobi clans as Konoha’s leaders faced an invasion from the moon. He warned that the attackers could awaken the Tenseigan after taking the Hyuga’s Byakugan, and reassured Naruto that Kirigakure was preparing to help.
Gekkō Raito discovered that Sasuke was in Otogakure and suspected Orochimaru had exposed his location to lure him there. He sent the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist to scout Konoha and decided to travel alone to meet Orochimaru, despite Mei Terumi’s concern.
Gekkō Raito sent the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist to search Konoha and rescue survivors while he raced to Otogakure to save Sasuke. He located Orochimaru’s underground base and entered its passage.
Gekkō Raito confronted Orochimaru, who offered to join Kirigakure in exchange for Sasuke’s release. Gekkō Raito accepted, rescued Sasuke from the laboratory, and restored his strength, while Madara and Obito revealed that Orochimaru’s offer was a trap meant to locate the Rinnegan’s host.
Orochimaru used Sasuke’s desire to see his mother to stop their fight, and Raito resurrected Uchiha Mikoto. Meanwhile, the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist entered devastated Konoha and split up to search for survivors and pursue Tsunade.
Kakashi and the battered Konoha survivors fled the Ōtsutsuki pursuers, who overwhelmed them and cornered them in a clearing. Just as Kakashi faced death, one Ōtsutsuki was suddenly hurled away by an unknown attacker.
Kisame, Chōjūrō, and Akira joined the battle against the Ōtsutsuki, using a coordinated attack to kill one of them. The remaining Ōtsutsuki prepared to retaliate as Kisame eagerly challenged them.
Kyuji led Haku, Zabuza, and Ameyuri Ringo into occupied Konoha and identified a strange building whose golden light seemed to empower the Ōtsutsuki Clan. After deciding to destroy the suspected charging device, he rushed toward it and attacked the guard at its entrance.
Kyuji’s attack on the Ōtsutsuki was stopped by their unusual durability and a device that drained his chakra, but Gekkō Raito sensed his danger and led Kirigakure reinforcements toward Konoha. Infused with Gekkō Raito’s chakra, Kyuji awakened a vastly stronger form of Shikotsumyaku as the rescue force approached.
Kyuji broke free from the Ōtsutsuki clansmen attacking him while Shinji Otsutsuki led a plan to seize the tailed beasts by taking control of the ninja villages. Shinji enslaved the Fourth Raikage and headed for Iwagakure, while Tenten remained badly wounded in Konoha, protecting the unconscious Rock Lee from their enemies.
Men in white launched a devastating attack on Konoha, and Minato Namikaze was wounded while fighting enemies who used Wood Release and the Flying Thunder God Technique. Hashirama and Tobirama arrived as Minato warned them about the attackers.
