"Little pets"
"That's enough, don't be so blatant," Philip said after shaking Kronos awake.
Actually, after maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Kronos wasn't as tired anymore; this time it was really because the words of those three people were so Hypnosis.
Kronos smiled sheepishly at the three generals, then sat up straight to clear his head.
In fact, it wasn't just Kronos; everyone else was also dozing off. They were all a group of noble children who had come to gain seniority, so naturally they couldn't adapt to such an "official" occasion.
Therefore, the three generals were forced to expedite the process.
Once the speaking process was over, things went much faster.
One by one, they went up on stage, and then the lieutenant general personally pinned on their medals or new ranks.
The conference room was full of hidden talents; Kronos even heard someone claim to have saved an enemy ship, but Eyes of Mystery Prying, it turned out to be just an ordinary person.
At this moment, Kronos was genuinely regretting his actions. If he had known it would turn out this way, he should have discussed it with Amyrius beforehand. This military achievement was being made to seem like a hoax.
Seeing Kronos's ashen face, Philip approached him.
"Don't think too much about it. Their fake military achievements can only be used once. It's an unspoken Rules. They're all people who have no hope of becoming generals. They're just trying to get some seniority before retiring."
"That's precisely why the Ministry of Defense allows them to so brazenly claim credit; after all, the country won't suffer any harm, it's just a title."
"Our military achievements are naturally different from theirs. Anyone who has worked in a government department knows the difference, so don't worry about them tarnishing your reputation."
After Philip's explanation, Kronos felt much better, but he was still speechless. In a country that was considered to be at its peak, such a situation still existed.
"Philip, that's why I don't like entering the military and political arena. I really can't stand this situation, let alone do such a thing myself."
Philip sighed. "My father once said that a country cannot be supported by the Royal Family and the Prime Minister alone. There are countless other parts that support the system, and the elders of these people in front of us are those parts."
"Sometimes, to ensure these components perform their functions properly, a meager salary isn't enough; they need to be given preferential treatment in other ways. This is something that cannot be avoided at any time."
As a former "online political commentator," Kronos should naturally be able to understand this situation, but when it actually happened to him, he still felt somewhat disgusted.
Philip patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, you won't see this kind of scene many times. Such a large-scale commendation meeting is rare; it's only possible when a real war breaks out. We might not even experience it again in our lifetime."
Kronos glanced at him; he was far more qualified to speak on matters of war Kronos.
In the near future, a war that will sweep across the entire Northern Continent is about to break out, and the Loen Kingdom was almost destroyed.
However, Kronos had no interest in gaining military merit in this war; it was rather dangerous for him.
When Kronos and Philip walked out of the Ministry of Defense Gate, they were already wearing the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, respectively.
"Are you free? Come with me, I'll show you my pets?" Philip invited Kronos.
Kronos had heard of these pets before; before Philip officially enlisted in the army, hunting was his greatest hobby.
He was somewhat different from other hunting enthusiasts. Many hunting enthusiasts are fond of modern firearms and collect many hunting rifles.
Philip, on the other hand, preferred to use melee weapons, especially bows and arrows.
Often, when facing prey, bows and arrows are not enough to kill, so he also keeps many "little pets" to assist him.
For example: Hound, Falcon, etc.
This was something Philip had boasted about to Kronos a long time ago.
He said that if his pets teamed up, they could easily kill an adult leopard.
But until now, Kronos has never had the chance to see these little pets in person.
"Okay, but there's something I need you to do for me." Kronos readily agreed, but made a request.
Tell me about it?
"I need the floor plan for the houses on Edward Street. I was planning to go there myself today if it weren't for you, but it would be much more convenient for you to do it for me."
Kronos didn't explain the reason, he only stated what needed to be done.
This matter is indeed more suitable for Philip to handle. Philip could easily send anyone from the planning department to do the job, while Kronos can only use his own name, which would easily attract attention.
So Kronos was a little uneasy, after all, this wasn't something good to prepare, and it felt like he was dragging Philip into it.
But he convinced himself, "I killed Jason entirely to protect Duke Negan, so it's normal for Philip to help. I didn't expect him to help much anyway, and it's just a small matter, so it's understandable."
But Philip sensed something was wrong. He had known Kronos for so long and knew his personality well; he never wanted to bother others with such trivial matters.
If I need to trouble someone, I will definitely explain the cause and effect clearly. I generally won't just say something without any context and then leave it at that.
Philip looked at Kronos but didn't ask anything. Instead, he said, "No problem, I'll have someone fetch one later. But if you need any help, please let me know."
He hadn't expected Philip to be so perceptive, but he smiled and said to Philip, "It's alright, I can handle it."
Philip gave him a suspicious look, but didn't say anything more.
Afterwards, the two carriages left the gate of the Ministry of Defense and headed out of Backlund.
These are all fierce pets. Even if Duke Negan is powerful, he can't keep them all in the city. If they riot and injure people, the compensation he would have to pay is a small matter, but the damage to his reputation would be a big problem.
So Philip had a special Manor outside the city, specifically for hunting and to house his pets.
This Manor doesn't look very good. It's not very big, the transportation isn't very convenient, and there's no fertile soil or rare minerals around it. It doesn't seem to fit the status of the Negan heir.
However, it has one advantage: being backed by mountains means there's plenty of prey.
This was the birthday gift Philip requested when he turned sixteen, and he has always cherished it.
As the two carriages approached the Manor, Kronos clearly heard the sounds of many animals.
The barking of dogs in the distance and the hooting of eagles in the sky had become noticeably more frequent this time; Kronos even felt as if an eagle was constantly circling overhead.
After entering the Manor and getting off the carriage, Philip excitedly pulled Kronos towards the backyard of the Manor.
As we walked, he said, "I'll take you to see them. They're all my treasures. If you like one, I can reluctantly give it to you, but there's only one."
Kronos didn't refuse to go and see. As a nobleman, it was normal to keep a pet, and besides, he could also raise a Paranormal Creature.
Kronos believed that Philip's collection must be of the highest quality, which saved him the time of painstakingly searching for animals of excellent quality.
Soon, the two arrived at the open space behind the Manor.
What came into view was a dozen or so Hound playing and frolicking, with seventy or eighty people watching over them.
That's right, everyone in this entire Manor is dedicated to serving these little pets.
"Look, these are all my pets," Philip said to Kronos with a smug look on his face.
Looking at the Hound in front of him, Kronos suddenly felt that his idea of choosing an animal here was a bit premature.
Every single Hound here is incredibly ferocious. Philip's description is far too conservative; he felt that any two of these Hound could easily kill a leopard.
These Hound are simply not suitable to keep around. Even if they become more intelligent after drinking the Potion, they are still not suitable to be kept in the city.
Seeing the shocked look in Kronos's eyes, Philip felt an overwhelming sense of pride.
"Kronos, let me tell you, taking them hunting is incredibly addictive."
Kronos gave a wry smile. "You take them hunting, and you just stay on the sidelines and paddle around, right? They can handle all the prey themselves."
Philip laughed. "When I used to go hunting, I only had three Hound, and they weren't this fierce. But since I joined the army, I haven't had much time to hunt properly, and therefore, I haven't had time to take good care of them."
"After that, I hired these professional dog trainers to take care of them. As a result, under their care, these Hound became more and more ferocious, so I asked them to buy more excellent Hound, and that's how the scale reached this point."
"What you see is only a small portion; they take turns coming out to protect against the wind every day, and that's only about one-fifth or one-sixth of the total."
Kronos was utterly shocked. "Is this Manor? It's more like a dog farm! It's become an industry!"
"It's an industry. At first, it was just me dabbling in it on a small scale. Later, my father also thought it was a good business. All the products here are of the highest quality, which I can use to build connections. As for the lower-quality ones, the family has dedicated sales channels to sell them all."
