Dealing with the police
Kronos already knew Jason's Villa quite well; he not only knew the plans by heart but had even Eye of Time, so he naturally knew where the storage room was.
I searched carefully in the storage room and finally found everything I needed.
After returning to the Basement, he first stuffed all the damaged and messy items into the Secret Room, then activated the Gate and locked Gate securely.
This place contains not only signs of vandalism, but also numerous traces of Jason's murders and corpses over the years. Even if there were nothing else, these should not be shown to anyone.
After collecting the items, Kronos began cleaning. The charred marks caused by the explosion had to be thoroughly cleaned, which took Kronos two hours.
After cleaning up, Kronos laid a carpet he had taken from the storeroom on top, and once it was covered, nothing could be seen.
Then came a tricky problem: the smell. Jason's fireballs were filled with the smell of sulfur, so the Basement smelled the same way.
Kronos thought about this problem quite well for a while, and finally decided to turn the Basement into an aromatherapy room to cover up the sulfur with other scents.
These tasks kept Kronos busy from the first night until dawn the next day, and Kronos finally finished just as day was breaking.
Everything is ready, but I don't know if anyone will come to the door.
Kronos used the Vampire Mask to change his face, transforming himself into Jason's appearance, then lay down on the bed and slowly fell asleep.
Around noon, Jason's doorbell rang, waking Kronos.
Kronos, still groggy, went downstairs and opened the door, where two Police were standing.
Kronos thought to himself, "They've come, just as I expected."
The West Borough is not a chaotic area Bridge Borough or Harbor Borough, nor is it a peaceful, undisturbed area like Saint George District, South Bridge District, or East Borough.
Wealthy people are very concerned about their safety, so they pay close attention to anything that happens in their neighborhood.
If this were in Harbor Borough or Bridge Borough, even if Kronos blew up the house, as long as the neighbors weren't hit, probably no one would call the police.
Kronos perked up, looked at the two Police, and asked, "Officers, is there anything I can help you with?"
One of the Police politely asked, "Are you Mr. Patrick?"
Kronos rubbed his eyes and then said, "Yes, I am Patrick Jason."
The Police said, "Last night, your neighbor heard a lot of noise coming from your house, so they called the police today. We're just here for a routine inquiry."
The Police officers were quite nice; after all, they were Police in the West Borough, so they naturally knew not to Sinner unnecessarily.
"Officers, please come in and talk. What's the matter?" Kronos ushered the two Police into the house and then personally made two cups of coffee.
"Does Mr. Patrick live alone?" another Police officer asked.
Logically speaking, someone of Jason's wealth should have several Servants to take care of his house, otherwise the house would be impossible to maintain. But Jason's house is not a good place for people to live; you never know when a corpse might be dug up.
Kronos was also quite helpless. This matter was a suspicious point, not too big, but it was left by Jason himself, and there was nothing Kronos could do about it.
Kronos could only explain, following Jason's consistent explanation, "I grew up in poverty, and only became wealthy by chance. But I'm not used to being served, so I'm more used to living alone."
In fact, the two Police had already conducted a brief investigation in the surrounding area that morning, and they had also heard this story from Jason's neighbors.
It sounded like there was no problem, but the two veteran Police still felt there might be some issues.
However, such a minor issue was not enough to warrant Police investigation into a wealthy businessman, so the two of them didn't dwell on it.
"So what happened last night?" the Police asked, getting straight to the point.
Kronos immediately adopted a dramatic act, giving a wry smile, and then said, "I was in a bad mood yesterday, so I hit my dog, but I didn't expect it to throw a tantrum and cause a scene in the house, so I chased after it. Maybe that's what the neighbors heard."
This was the explanation that Kronos had prepared beforehand. Although the Devil Dog had escaped, Kronos hadn't originally intended for it to live to this day, so it was reasonable for it to take the blame.
Having conducted an investigation, the two Police certainly knew that Jason had such a dog, and they were also well aware that none of the neighbors had a very good opinion of it.
According to these neighbors, Jason was a cheerful, warm, and optimistic gentleman, but they couldn't understand why this gentleman would keep a fierce-looking dog.
Let alone children, even an adult would be terrified by that dog.
"Can we see that dog?"
Kronos continued with a wry smile, "It ran away. I hit it a few times, then it bit me and ran away."
After saying that, Kronos rolled up his sleeves and showed the Police the fake dog tooth mark on his arm.
This dog tooth mark is quite frightening. In order not to give anything away, Kronos specially Replication according to the Original dog's tooth.
The two Police were startled by the brutal imprint left by Kronos.
Although they had heard many descriptions of the dog and knew it was ferocious, they had never actually seen it, so they didn't take it seriously.
They were knowledgeable; they had seen the Hound of some noble families, the kind of large dogs that could hunt alone.
Therefore, they wondered how far they could go in terms of brutality.
The bite mark turned out to be quite an eye-opener for them, as if it had swallowed Kronos's forearm whole.
Based on the teeth marks, the Police had a rough estimate of the dog's size. If it was such a large dog, it could indeed make such a loud noise, which seemed reasonable.
But we still need to rule out other possibilities, so one of the Police officers asked, "May we look around your house?"
In truth, Kronos wasn't very confident, because he knew there were corpses buried in the yard of the house. Kronos didn't have enough time to dispose of the bodies, so if they were discovered, Kronos would have to take the blame for Jason.
However, Kronos couldn't refuse such a request, so he could only say, "Of course, no problem. You two can take a look for yourselves."
The two Police acted swiftly. After Kronos agreed, they split up and went their separate ways. One went to the yard outside, while the other wandered around inside the house.
The two had a clear division of labor: one was to check on the dog's condition, and the other was to look for signs of the dog causing a disturbance inside the house.
The dog was there, so the Police outside easily confirmed it.
The person inside the house, thanks to the fight between Kronos and Jason in the bedroom and Washroom last night, found a large number of traces in these two locations that naturally matched Kronos's account.
Now that they had met, the two Police naturally relaxed a lot and stopped worrying about it, not even bothering to look into the Basement.
It's all about human relationships and social interactions. Since Kronos has provided a reasonable explanation, there's no need to investigate further; it's not a big deal anyway.
If the dead Jason knew what those two Police were thinking, he would definitely jump out of hell and give them a good beating.
After the search was completed, the two Police said they were leaving, but Kronos naturally tried to persuade them to stay.
"Officers, at least finish your coffee before you leave, otherwise the neighbors will say I'm not being hospitable."
The two Police readily accepted Kronos's invitation, thinking they might need his help someday, so they sat down.
After chatting about all sorts of things for a while, Kronos tentatively asked, "I wonder if it would be possible to ask the police to help me find my dog?"
Kronos's goal was not to find the dog, but to eliminate the threat completely and, incidentally, gain an Beyonder Characteristic.
One of the Police said with difficulty, "It's not that we're unwilling to help, but the police station is just too busy. We can barely handle our own duties, let alone things outside of our job responsibilities."
Another Police chimed in, "Yes, especially with time-consuming tracking work like this, we really don't have the time. Sometimes we even outsource it to private Detective. You could consider Detective one."
"The price might be a bit higher, and finding someone is easier for them, so the price won't be low. Finding a dog is much more troublesome. Even if your dog is quite special, it's not easy for someone unfamiliar with it to recognize it."
The Police next to him continued, "Your neighbors all say your dog is particularly fierce and not very close to you. It's not worth going to such lengths to get it back. With that much money, you could buy another top-quality Hound."
Kronos thought to himself: I'm doing this to help you guys. Even if that dog was scared by me yesterday and could stay quiet for a while, it will still kill people again. Under Jason's control, it's been relatively restrained in its killings. But without anyone to control it, who knows how many it will kill.
So he said, "That dog isn't very close to me, but I raised it from a puppy, and I can't bear to let it become a stray. So I still hope we can find it."
Seeing Kronos's reaction, one of the Police suggested, "If you really want to find it, I recommend you ask Detective Isengard Stanton for help. He's very reliable, and in my opinion, he's more dependable than other Detective."
The old gentleman with the "Eye of Wisdom"? Perhaps we could inform him; he is indeed a suitable candidate.
In the original story, he was involved in the Devil Dog incident and was retaliated against by Jason for it, but even Jason couldn't kill him, so the threat posed by the Devil Dog to him should be limited.
As for the other Detective, forget about them. If they're not strong enough, this Devil Dog could easily kill all the Detective in Backlund with its malice.
Seeing Kronos deep in thought, one of the Police moved closer and whispered, "I don't know how many Pound Sterling it would cost to hire a famous Detective to find the dog, but I know a more convenient method."
Kronos snapped out of his daze and asked, "What method?"
He moved closer, lowered his voice, and whispered, "The Church of Evernight. I don't know if you're a follower of the Evernight Goddess, but there are some very powerful people in the Church of Evernight who can easily help people find things. Our Police has received their help before."
Kronos immediately understood what he was talking about; this was Beyonder trained by the Evernight Goddess through the Seer Pathway.
The Evernight Goddess possesses the Fool's Blasphemy Card, and thus naturally controls all the Potion in the entire Sequence. Therefore, the Church of Evernight also cultivates Beyonder of this Sequence, because Beyonder of this Sequence are very convenient to do things.
The Seer can perform divination, the Faceless can disguise himself, Marionettist can control the Marionette's actions. In terms of convenience, they are definitely more advanced than the Darkness Pathway to which the goddess in black belongs.
However, this Pathway is not suitable for cultivating High Sequence. Firstly, it is very difficult; to advance to Demigod level, one must kill a Demigod, not to mention the subsequent ritual of breaking free from the three-hundred-year Ritual.
Moreover, there are powerful figures blocking this Pathway, though not as completely as Mr. Door, but there's still little chance for them.
Therefore, for the Church of Evernight, training up to Sequence 6 is sufficient. Those with good aptitude can be promoted to Sequence 5, but there is no need to force the others.
The Police was probably referring to them.
The Police in the West Borough have likely had considerable cooperation with the Church of Evernight, so it's normal that they knew of these people's existence, which is why they recommended them to Kronos.
Although Kronos maintained a facade of surprise, he was inwardly wryly smiling.
Putting aside whether the Church of Evernight would help this nobleman who was suspected of being a believer in Steam, Kronos didn't dare go to the Saint Samuel Cathedral, mainly because he was afraid of being discovered by the Evernight Goddess.
I used to joke about going to befriend a goddess and clinging to her coattails. While that's somewhat feasible, it definitely requires having a certain level of ability first. If you don't have any leverage, you can't just rely on courage to try and cling to someone's coattails.
As Demon Wolf had lived for thousands of years, Kronos couldn't be sure how much humanity the goddess Amanises possessed.
According to Kronos's own estimation, the Evernight Goddess was the most terrifying of True God who appeared in the original work, possessing both power and cunning.
Storm and God of Combat are just two reckless brutes. The God of Wisdom's Traitor Dragon strategy is enough, but he might be a little lacking in strength. Steam is the weakest of the True God.
Yonghe Lieyang didn't appear much, but the Evernight Goddess and the Earth Mother were the most outstanding characters in the original work. After planning for thousands of years, the two goddesses finally got what they wanted.
Therefore, Kronos didn't want to be exposed to the Evernight Goddess's gaze, fearing she might scheme against him. Klein, the main protagonist, was already part of the Evernight Goddess's plan, and Kronos currently had no way to escape such a scheme.
However, since the Police had given such a reliable suggestion, Kronos naturally had to give him face, so he smiled and thanked him, saying that he would definitely consult the Church of Evernight if he had the chance.
The two Police had other work to do, so they didn't stay long and said goodbye after finishing their coffee.
After seeing the Police off, Kronos breathed a sigh of relief; at least Jason's mess hadn't made Kronos the scapegoat.
Kronos reopened the Gate to the underground Secret Room and began to ponder how to deal with these things.
He certainly didn't intend to stay here long-term, but he needed to deal with the shares before he could sell the house, so he might need to stay for a while.
Since we're going to live here, we can't live on top of several corpses, not just the bodies of Jason himself and the people he killed in the Secret Room, but also those buried in the yard outside. They all need to be disposed of.
However, this isn't a good time yet. Although we managed to fool the Police today, who knows if they'll continue to keep an eye on us? And even if the Police give up, who knows if the neighbors will be watching?
Therefore, for the sake of his family's Kain Bank shares, he should keep a low profile. At least burning a body on the roadside like a few days ago is definitely inappropriate. It would be best to use something highly corrosive to destroy the evidence directly.
