"Lord Khadgar!" A battlemage burst into Khadgar's room, looking extremely flustered.
Khadgar hastily stopped his research and set down the two Dark Portal teleportation stones, asking, "What happened? Why the hurry?"
"The Dark Portal's arcane energy is fluctuating again!" the battlemage said as quickly as he could. "The fluctuations are almost identical to last time! And much more pronounced!"
Khadgar's expression changed at once.
If such abnormal fluctuations had occurred only once, they could still be explained as an accident.
But now that they had occurred twice... they could be almost certain something was wrong.
"Quick!" Khadgar hastily picked up his armor and left the room. "Come with me to find Commander Trollbane!"
Danath Trollbane's face was equally tense after he heard the news Khadgar brought him.
"We must send messengers to contact the Alliance leadership as soon as possible!" The commander from Stromgarde looked extremely grave. "Even if this is only an accident... otherwise, if the Horde really crosses the Dark Portal again, everything will be lost!"
Khadgar agreed with him. "Send messengers to contact King Wrynn in Stormwind City, and Marshal Uther in Lordaeron..."
After a pause, Khadgar added, "Have the messengers ride gryphons. Horses are too slow, and could easily cost us time!"
"I must go to the Dark Portal!" Danath also began putting on his armor. "We dug a trench there over a year ago. If the Horde appears again, I hope it can hold them back!"
"I'll head over right away too, but I need ten minutes first!" Khadgar said, adjusting his armor.
Danath knew the archmage was going to send word to Dalaran's leadership.
"Then I'll see you at the Dark Portal!" He strode out of the room and began assembling Nethergarde Keep's troops.
Nethergarde Keep had only three thousand warriors in all.
