The Horde army came to a halt.
Before them stood the shattered temple, jutting from the earth like broken teeth.
Auchindoun.
Ner'zhul began to gaze ahead.
The last time he had come here, this sacred, inviolable burial place of the Draenei had been so magnificent.
Now, great gaps marred the temple walls everywhere; the portion exposed above the ground had fallen into ruin. Even Terokkar Forest, which had once nurtured it, had almost completely withered away.
With bones scattered everywhere as well, he could scarcely connect the Auchindoun before him with the great ruins that had once awed him so deeply.
Ner'zhul faintly heard sounds among the surrounding dead trees.
He hurriedly looked around, but found nothing.
Had those sounds just been his imagination?
Ner'zhul pondered this, then shook his head.
"Move, you useless idiots!" Gul'dan roared. "Get inside! Enter those ruins!"
Driven forward by the Death Knights, the Horde soldiers stepped trembling into the ruins of Auchindoun.
As they passed through the enormous, tilted entrance, many soldiers shuddered in fear.
For this place had once been a tomb.
For thousands of years, the Draenei had buried their dead within Auchindoun, their holiest temple.
Though the orcs no longer followed shamanic teachings, they still held a measure of respect for their ancestors-or even fear.
But several years earlier, members of the Shadow Council had infiltrated Auchindoun, preparing to summon creatures of unspeakable evil and terror. Their shameful magic had caused a tremendous explosion, shattering the temple and reducing the surrounding region to scorched earth.
What was more, they had slaughtered tens of thousands of Draenei. Would those Draenei souls also come into the depths of Auchindoun to take revenge on them?
"Hurry!" Ner'zhul growled hoarsely.
