Originally, he had planned to head out to sea, then find a nearby player with a Portal and establish contact with Steam Island first. After that, whether he wanted to conquer Player Islands or do something else, he could travel back and forth through the Portal.
But now fate had given him a new choice, another possibility: he could turn back and make money as a traveling merchant.
