Background / History
Observing Yang Yi and Captivity
Su Na studied medicine before entering the survival game. As captain of the Astrologer, she used its Peering skill to secretly observe Yang Yi for several days, recording his routines and apparent resistance to madness. She supplied information about an island partly to see how he would react 13 22.
When a Siren lured Yang Yi toward the island, Su Na followed alone. Fascinated by the creature, she failed to notice two additional Sirens and was captured. She initially concealed this from Yang Yi, claiming that an already-dead man in the cave had been her companion 14.
Yang Yi secured her agreement to provide half her ship’s supplies and one month of nautical-chart guidance before freeing her. She later offered all her remaining ship resources and another month of guidance in exchange for an intact Siren corpse. The pair killed the Sirens and built a raft to reach their ships 14 15 16 17 18.
Storm Sea and Ship Merger
After Yang Yi killed a giant sea snake underwater, Su Na rescued him from drowning, performed CPR, and treated his bite. They then agreed to cooperate through the storm, linking their ships so the slower Astrologer could keep pace with the Nightmare 18 19.
During the voyage, Su Na unlocked Forbidden Scholar through dissection and helped Yang Yi survive the Demon Shark attack with precise archery. Her subsequent gacha draw produced a golden reward, whose contents she initially kept secret 20 22 23 24.
Following the Nightmare’s sinking, Yang Yi brought the exhausted, unconscious Su Na to an island. She later dragged him farther inland and gathered wood while he slept. Once he woke, she revealed a Ship Merging Card and proposed combining their vessels. The merger created the Nightmare Star, with Yang Yi elected captain by prior agreement 27 28.
Witch Laboratory
Su Na persuaded Yang Yi to approve a Witch Laboratory by demonstrating an original potion. The laboratory gave her dedicated research equipment and a place to preserve Otherworldly Demon specimens 32 33.
Her work soon became dangerous to her own health. After secretly working overtime on three potion prototypes, she developed a fever, collapsed from exhaustion, and entered the madness state “obsession,” with Sanity at 35/80. Yang Yi temporarily barred her from the laboratory, then restored access under an eight-hour daily limit 36 37 38.
Spider’s Kiss and the Glutton
When Yang Yi acquired Spider’s Kiss, Su Na examined Hu Wei’s hollowed-out corpse and identified tiny spiders in Yang Yi’s blood. She later operated to remove the creatures during a severe outbreak and developed Spider-Death Potion to kill them temporarily 41 43 44.
She also produced poison for their assault on the Tinder Wool Spiders and insisted on joining the island expedition. After encountering the mutated player Li Rong, the Glutton, she recorded the fight, collected his corrosive gastric fluid, and dissected his corpse. Her findings included an enormous stomach occupying the abdomen and a brain directly connected to it 45 46 49 50.
Appearance
- Vivid red eyes: Described as scarlet or crimson; Yang Yi associates them with a woman from his nightmares 14 16 27.
- Witch’s Casual Clothes: Her original outfit appears too scanty for the cooling weather, but is warm and waterproof 24.
- Medical protective gear: Wears a beaked mask and goggles while operating on Yang Yi 43.
Personality
Su Na’s defining trait is an intense curiosity about unusual biology, especially Otherworldly Demons and Yang Yi’s resistance to madness. Her observation diary records details as private as his sleeping, eating, and toilet habits. During the Demon Shark attack, a sharp Sanity loss nearly drove her to dissect him, though she restrained herself 13 23 37.
Her research enthusiasm regularly overrides caution. It leads to her capture by the Sirens and later to laboratory overwork severe enough to cause madness and collapse. She also tries to examine a rare Bobbit Worm Head relic with her dagger until Yang Yi stops her 14 32 37.
She is teasing and willing to retaliate when embarrassed. On the island after the shipwreck, she recreates Yang Yi’s earlier gunpoint intimidation almost word for word, then deliberately phrases her ship-merger proposal ambiguously to unsettle him 14 27.
Despite treating Yang Yi as a research subject, Su Na repeatedly protects him. She risks entering the sea to rescue him, treats his injuries, and reassures him while investigating the spiders in his bloodstream. Her survival pragmatism also extends to drinking Siren slime and eating raw fish after observing that Yang Yi had consumed them without poisoning 15 18 41.
Abilities & Skills
Medicine and Surgery
Su Na draws on her medical studies to examine injuries, investigate abnormalities, and perform emergency treatment 22 41 43.
- Rescues Yang Yi from drowning and performs CPR 18.
- Uses microscopy to identify spiders in his bloodstream 41.
- Surgically removes spiders from his skin, blood vessels, and muscle during a life-threatening outbreak 43.
- Dissects unfamiliar organisms and preserves organs for further study 20 49.
Archery
Su Na states that she won a provincial archery championship. Her accuracy makes her an effective ranged defender against the Demon Sharks 22.
- Repeatedly strikes the sharks’ exposed eyeballs, disabling them 22.
- Covers Yang Yi while he climbs the mast, until her arrows run out 22.
- Uses poisoned arrows; poison spreads among the sharks as they consume one another 23.
- Later receives steel-headed arrows coated in Cystic Spiny Puffer bodily fluids, making even a bleeding scratch potentially lethal 39.
Forbidden Scholar and Occult Research
Forbidden Scholar lets Su Na develop formulas rather than relying exclusively on existing recipes 20 32.
- Occultism interface: An additional page in her Sailing Log allows her to purchase laboratory equipment with Conch Coins 33.
- Witch Laboratory: Reduces research stamina consumption by 50% and Sanity loss by 25%; stored Otherworldly Demon specimens do not decay 33.
- Inspiration: Displayed specimens increase the laboratory’s inspiration occurrence rate 33.
- Risks: Research still consumes Sanity. Her reduced maximum of 80 and tendency to overwork make monitoring and rest necessary 20 37 42.
Potion Development
Her original brews initially appear as “Unknown Potion” items; their effects are revealed through consumption 32 38.
| Potion / Prototype | Effects | Limits or Drawbacks |
|---|---|---|
| Vitality Siren Juice | Restores Energy and increases its recovery rate 32. | Demonstrated to convince Yang Yi to build the laboratory 32. |
| Frenzy Potion | Restores Energy but causes a one-hour frenzy and costs the drinker 20 Sanity 38. | Yang Yi rejects the severity of its side effects and requests a safer, mass-producible replacement 38. |
| Red attribute-boosting prototype | Intended to increase attributes 36. | Requires a Devil Shark eyeball; available ingredients initially permit only two bottles 38. |
| Regeneration Potion | Heals Yang Yi’s wounds after surgery 44. | Causes unbearable itching during regeneration 44. |
| Spider-Death Potion / Dead Spider Potion | Temporarily kills the spiders inside Yang Yi and is used to poison the island’s spiders 44 46. | Cannot eliminate the source of Spider’s Kiss 44. |
Observation and Navigation
Su Na combines close observation with the Astrologer’s navigation equipment 13 16 20.
- Uses Peering to track and observe nearby ships 13.
- Operates a crystal ball displaying a chart of the surrounding hundred nautical miles 20.
- Records precise Siren return intervals and notices that Yang Yi’s pistol sometimes misfires despite requiring no reload 16.
- Recognizes that the giant worms likely lack visual organs and proposes that they hunt through other senses 25.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Witch’s Dagger — Fine-quality treasure used as a knife and scalpel; can inflict a small amount of damage on Otherworldly Demons 15 20.
- Witch’s Personal Treasure Bag — Fine-quality storage treasure with one cubic meter of capacity. Attaches to her body, cannot be stolen, and cannot hold living things; she uses it extensively for organs and specimens 17 20 27.
- Witch’s Casual Clothes — Fine-quality treasure that provides warmth, waterproofing, and increased Sanity recovery speed 24.
- Pirate Longbow and poisoned arrows — Her principal ranged weapons. She carries more than forty poisoned iron arrows for the island expedition 39 46.
- Crystal Ball — Navigation display carried over from the Astrologer. It also vibrates when another player’s ship enters nearby waters 20 36.
- Beak Mask and goggles — Protective equipment used during surgery and poison preparation; the mask is purchased through the laboratory 43 45.
- Observation diary — Detailed records of Yang Yi’s behavior, later titled Yang Yi’s Observation Diary 13 37.
- Ship Merging Card — Special consumable used to combine the Astrologer and Nightmare into the Nightmare Star 27 28.
Relationships
- Yang Yi — Captain, survival partner, patient, and research subject. Their relationship begins with secret observation and coercive bargaining, then develops through mutual rescues and shared survival. He funds her laboratory and equipment but restricts her research hours to protect her health and Sanity 13 14 18 27 32 38 41.
- Li Rong / Glutton — Mutated player whose death Su Na documents. His corpse becomes a research specimen through which she studies the bodily changes associated with extreme Sanity loss 49 50.
