The sky grew dark.

Vanessa, Dorothea, Allen, and the orphans stood in the backyard. No one spoke.

They had buried Winnie with their own hands, and now they had to dig her up with those same hands.

The feeling defied description.

Vanessa had once made grand vows here. She had thought that once she became a Supernatural person, everything would be different. She could avenge her friend, save many people, and change this terrible world.

But now, she could not even protect her friend's peace.

The shovels turned the earth with dull thuds.

They dug away the soil in silence. It took considerable effort to lift the coffin out, then they worked together to carry it onto the Flatbed Cart.

Vanessa pulled the cart while the others steadied it as they made their way down the street.

Even late at night, there were still plenty of people in the streets. Many had been driven out of their homes. Some tried to climb over the walls to get back inside, while others stood bewildered at their doors.

Vanessa had once considered anyone who owned a house wealthy. But now these wealthy people looked no different from Vanessa when she had lived on the streets, their faces just as blank with bewilderment.

Suddenly, they were about to become homeless.

Vanessa pulled her friend's remains through the streets, her expression numb.

She had no sympathy to spare for anyone else.

In this city, the living and the dead alike wandered homeless.

The lights of the Mourning Poetry Society were still on. Flora had put on her elaborate black dress and stood at the entrance to welcome them.

Vanessa stared blankly at her for a long time before suddenly remembering that this was Funeral Attire.

Winnie was buried in the Mourning Poetry Society's courtyard.
