Background / History
Partnership with Ghost Douluo
Yue Guan and Ghost Douluo met before either attained prominence and supported one another throughout their rise. Ghost Douluo personally collected most of the rare plants in Chrysanthemum Garden during his travels. Together, they mastered the Martial Soul Fusion Skill Two Extremes Stillness Domain 45.
The pair previously hunted Dugu Bo after he refused to join Spirit Hall, nearly killing him. Prince Xue Xing intervened, using his imperial position and the threat of military force to drive them away 37.
Meeting Su Yi
Unable to enter Spirit City’s guarded inner city, Su Yi deliberately released the lingering aura of two immortal herbs to attract Yue Guan. Yue Guan visited his lodgings and identified the essences of Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot 40 41.
Su Yi’s description of their source allowed Yue Guan to recognize the legendary Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, which he had sought for much of his life. Although disappointed when Su Yi refused to disclose its location, he ultimately accepted the refusal rather than forcing an answer 41.
Su Yi then presented him with the Lovesick Heartbreak Red, fulfilling another longstanding wish. In exchange, Su Yi requested instruction in plant identification, medicinal combinations, and spiritual energy rather than formal discipleship. Yue Guan agreed and supplied an elder’s token granting access to the inner city 42.
Teaching at Chrysanthemum Garden
Yue Guan welcomed Su Yi into Chrysanthemum Garden and opened his Fragrant Collection Pavilion to him. He even permitted access to his family’s Illustrated Catalogue of Immortal Herbs, while forbidding its removal, damage, copying, or disclosure 43 44.
Su Yi’s disciplined reading and original annotations earned his growing appreciation. Over the following months, their relationship became both scholarly and personal: they tended flowers, assessed medicinal properties, and discussed continental affairs over tea 45 47.
During this period, Yue Guan entered seclusion and used the Lovesick Heartbreak Red to reach rank ninety-six. After emerging, he resumed answering Su Yi’s accumulated questions about plant Martial Souls, medicinal herbs, spiritual qi, and alchemy 46.
Arranging the Duel with Qian Renxue
Su Yi eventually revealed that his family had been destroyed during the political struggle surrounding Qian Renxue’s undercover mission. Yue Guan was torn between his responsibilities to Spirit Hall and his affection for the junior who had helped him. Su Yi reassured him that he sought a fair confrontation with Qian Renxue, not revenge against Spirit Hall 47.
Yue Guan agreed to deliver a challenge under two conditions: the duel must occur outside the city with no witnesses besides himself, and Su Yi must concede if the danger became excessive. He accepted the sealed letter without opening it 48.
At the chosen valley, Yue Guan warned Su Yi about Qian Renxue’s aerial advantage before concealing himself nearby. Qian Daoliu nevertheless arrived in secret, forcing him to explain Su Yi’s identity and intentions. Yue Guan defended Su Yi’s character while emphatically affirming his own loyalty to Spirit Hall 50 56.
When Su Yi insulted Qian Daoliu and the Angel Clan during the battle, Yue Guan offered to seize him, but Qian Daoliu ordered him to continue watching. Both witnessed the confrontation through its conclusion. Yue Guan’s later account of Su Yi’s past also contributed to Qian Renxue reconsidering the grievance and eventually seeking reconciliation 56 69.
Appearance
Yue Guan appears middle-aged, with a tall, slender build, fair skin, and delicate features that verge on feminine 41.
- Eyes: Pale gold, with slightly upturned outer corners 41.
- Voice and mannerisms: Soft, feminine, and authoritative; frequently uses delicate, orchid-like finger gestures 41.
- Clothing: Usually wears ornate robes with gold chrysanthemum patterns. For the discreet trip to the duel, he instead wears a moon-white gown, dark gray cloak, and plain hair crown 46 50.
- Scent: A faint, cool chrysanthemum fragrance lingers around him even when his Soul Power is concealed 41.
Personality
Despite his high office, Yue Guan is described as uninterested in power or empty fame. His strongest passions are rare plants and books. His care extends beyond valuable specimens: he notices Su Yi’s ordinary sensitive plant and carefully protects intact petals while pruning chrysanthemums 40 41 43 44.
He values genuine understanding of plants rather than treating them solely as ingredients or weapons. Hearing Su Yi describe listening to plants “with the heart” moves him to praise the older sister who taught that outlook. As a teacher, he rewards thoughtful questions and independent insights, though he maintains strict boundaries around his treasured books 44 45 46.
His attachment to Su Yi does not erase his institutional loyalty. Arranging the duel places him in a genuine conflict between public duty and private affection, while Qian Daoliu’s unexpected arrival leaves him visibly terrified 47 56.

- Benefits from compatible immortal herbs; the Lovesick Heartbreak Red strengthens its origin as well as advancing his cultivation 41 46.
Two Extremes Stillness Domain
A Martial Soul Fusion Skill jointly used with Ghost Douluo 45.
- Combines Yue Guan’s yang-aligned, substantial Martial Soul with Ghost Douluo’s yin-aligned, insubstantial one.
- Has no dominant or subordinate participant; the two opposing extremes balance one another.
- Prolonged spiritual resonance gradually influences both users’ dispositions. Yue Guan says he has become less sharp and flamboyant, while Ghost Douluo has become less cold and isolated.
