Background / History

Childhood and Family

Qian Daoliu is the son of Qian Chenming, Spirit Hall's thirteenth pope. He attended Spirit Hall Academy as a child. At seven, he secretly drank his father's sacred wine and passed out in the courtyard; his mother intervened before Qian Chenming could punish him 1 4.

Before her death, his mother entrusted him with a jade pendant and asked him to live well and obey his father. The pendant had originally been Qian Chenming's token of love to her. Qian Daoliu continued wearing it beneath his clothes without showing it to others 4.

Withdrawal from Spirit Hall's Affairs

As Great Enshrined, Qian Daoliu increasingly withdrew into cultivation and worship, leaving Bibi Dong to govern Spirit Hall. He later admitted that weariness with worldly affairs and indolence had influenced this decision. His support was decisive in securing Bibi Dong's papal authority despite the other enshrined elders' dissatisfaction 5 7.

He knew that his son, Qian Xunji, had raped Bibi Dong but failed to intervene effectively. He subsequently turned a blind eye to Bibi Dong's retaliation, although he had an opportunity to save his son. His hesitation arose partly from guilt over Qian Xunji's crime and partly from his unwillingness to leave the young Qian Renxue without both parents 6.

When Bibi Dong neglected Qian Renxue, Qian Daoliu raised the girl himself and taught her to be understanding toward her mother. He also supported her infiltration of Heaven Dou as Crown Prince Xue Qinghe, a decision he later regretted 8 16.

Appearance

  • Hair: Silver-white, described as white as snow 19.
  • Eyes: Golden 2.
  • General appearance: An elderly man; his resurrected father appears younger than he does 2 19.
  • Martial Soul manifestation: A golden angel with six spreading wings and radiant holy light 3.

Personality

Qian Daoliu is normally stern and emotionally restrained. His tears during Qian Chenming's reprimand astonish the other enshrined elders; Azure Luan says he has never previously seen him cry during his years in the Worship Hall 6.

His reluctance to act against family members has serious consequences. He recognizes Qian Xunji's wrongdoing yet fails to restrain him, then permits Bibi Dong's revenge rather than decisively addressing the conflict. Qian Chenming condemns this behavior as avoidance and cowardice rather than kindness, an assessment Qian Daoliu eventually accepts 5 6.

He is openly affectionate toward Qian Renxue, embracing her and apologizing for the hardship of her undercover mission. He also retains convictions that differ from his father's: he defends subsidized awakenings for struggling commoners and argues against exterminating the secluded Clear Sky Sect 19 32 33.

Despite his rank, he becomes anxious and deferential around Qian Chenming. He fears further punishment and sometimes tries to shift blame, but also volunteers for work in an effort to regain his father's trust 15 16 19.

Abilities & Skills

Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul

Qian Daoliu manifests a golden, six-winged angel that supports his holy-light and flame attacks 3.

  • Can enlarge the manifestation and direct it into an all-out charge 3.
  • Suffers rank-based suppression when confronted with Qian Chenming's Divine Envoy Domain 3.

Angel God's Divine Fire

Qian Daoliu gathers sacred golden fire in his palm for attacks. He identifies the flame as a power possessed only by the Qian Family's direct bloodline 3.

  • Combines the fire with close-range palm strikes 3.
  • His flames are less pure and fierce than those displayed by the resurrected Qian Chenming 3.

Angel Domain

His Angel Domain spreads golden light and intense heat across the surrounding area 3.

  • Raises the temperature enough to melt the ground during his confrontation with Qian Chenming 3.
  • Dissolves under the superior radiance of the Divine Envoy Domain 3.

Peerless Douluo Combat Prowess

At level 99, Qian Daoliu possesses immense physical and soul-power output 2 3.

  • His eruption of soul power shakes the Worship Hall and cracks the ground 2.
  • A palm strike delivered at seventy percent strength is described as capable of shattering mountains, but Qian Chenming stops it with one finger 3.
  • Survives being blasted into a wall by Qian Chenming's sword light and resumes attacking, though he is visibly injured 3.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Jade pendant — His mother's final gift, worn close to his body. Qian Chenming's knowledge of its origin helps establish his identity after his resurrection 4.
  • Angel Holy Sword — Qian Daoliu is stated to use an Angel Holy Sword, but the text explicitly distinguishes it from the divine weapon wielded by the resurrected Qian Chenming 3.

Relationships

  • Qian Chenming — Father and Spirit Hall's thirteenth pope. Their reunion turns from an armed confrontation into reconciliation, followed by repeated reprimands over Qian Daoliu's family and institutional responsibilities 1 3 4 5 6.
  • Unnamed mother — Protected him from punishment as a child and entrusted him with her treasured jade pendant before dying 4.
  • Qian Xunji — Son. Qian Daoliu admits failing to restrain his wrongdoing and failing to save him from Bibi Dong's retaliation 5 6.
  • Qian Renxue — Granddaughter, whom he raised during Bibi Dong's neglect. He eventually apologizes for allowing her talent and years to be consumed by the Heaven Dou infiltration 8 16 19.
  • Bibi Dong — Daughter-in-law and the pope whose rule he enabled. He defends her talent and administrative ability, while his guilt and indulgence make him her principal protection against opposition within Spirit Hall 5 6 8.
  • Golden Crocodile Douluo — Fellow elder of the same generation who addresses him as “Big Brother.” Reports the disturbance at Qian Chenming's grave and joins him against the apparent intruder 2 3.
  • Six Great Enshrined — Fellow Worship Hall elders who answer his commands and fight alongside him. They witness both his reconciliation with his father and his subsequent humiliation 2 3 4 5.
  • Tang Chen — Party to private agreements that contribute to Qian Daoliu's reluctance to annihilate the Clear Sky Sect; their terms are not disclosed 33.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Qian Chenming's Return

After learning that his father's tomb is empty, Qian Daoliu orders an investigation and returns to find Qian Chenming occupying his chair. Believing him to be a demon or impostor, he summons the other six enshrined elders and attacks. His father overpowers him individually before withdrawing outside to avoid their combined assault 2 3.

Private childhood memories, the jade pendant's history, familiar scolding, and a recognizable kick finally convince Qian Daoliu of his father's identity. He acknowledges him as “Dad” and welcomes him into the Worship Hall 4.

Discipline and Reassignment

Qian Chenming confronts him over Bibi Dong's authority and Qian Xunji's death. Qian Daoliu breaks down, admits his failures, and is ordered to remain kneeling. By the next shared dinner, he has knelt for two days and two nights 5 6 15.

Seeking to help with Spirit Hall's affairs, he requests an assignment. Qian Chenming orders him to sort and tally thirty thousand volumes in the Pope's Palace scripture repository and repair insect-damaged books. He accepts the task as a first step toward restoring his father's trust 15 16.

Reconsidering Qian Renxue's Mission

Initially, Qian Daoliu blames Bibi Dong for the Heaven Dou infiltration and warns that summoning Qian Renxue could expose her identity. Under questioning, he acknowledges that he too had considered the scheme useful. He concludes that his granddaughter should stand openly as a Qian Family descendant rather than live behind another person's identity 16.

When Qian Renxue returns, he embraces her and accepts responsibility for her years of hardship, but declines to accompany her to meet Qian Chenming out of fear of another punishment 19.

Disputes over Spirit Hall Policy

During the financial review, Qian Daoliu defends commoner awakening subsidies as both charitable and beneficial to Spirit Hall's long-term standing. Qian Chenming rejects his argument and makes awakenings conditional on loyalty or payment 32.

After Tang Hao's death, Qian Daoliu urges his father to spare the secluded Clear Sky Sect. Qian Chenming refuses, physically reprimands him, and sends him back to kneel in the Worship Hall 33.

Notable Quotes

“Xue'er is a daughter of the Qian Family, my granddaughter, and your great-granddaughter. With her talent and her bloodline, she should stand openly and proudly in the sunlight, receiving the admiration of thousands. Not be trapped deep within Heaven Dou's palace, living behind someone else's mask.” 16

“But Tang Hao is already dead, and the Clear Sky Sect has sealed its mountain for so many years. Why don't we just let it go?” 33
