Background / History
Leaving Home for Shrek
Ning Rongrong grew up wealthy and closely protected within the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Although her father had arranged for her to attend Heaven Dou Royal Academy, she ran away to Shrek because she had heard it would be entertaining. She promised her father, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong that she would become stronger before returning home 57 61 78.
Within less than two months, she regretted enrolling. She described being ostracized by the students and suppressed by the teachers and dean. In particular, she resented Flender’s use of Oscar’s talent to belittle her 57.
Rescue in the Star Dou Great Forest
During the Titan Giant Ape’s attack, Rongrong fled in the same direction as Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar. The three concentrated on escaping and failed to notice that she had fallen behind. Lost and afraid to stop, she ran until she collapsed beside a stream 52 58.
Lin En’s group found her unconscious, and he revived her. Knowing that she could not escape the forest alone as a support-type Soul Master, she offered a generous reward from her sect. Shui Bing’er allowed her to accompany Skywater Academy’s assessment party, provided she did not delay them 52.
After recovering, Rongrong supported Lin En and Sageross against the Giant Swamp Crocodile King. Impressed by Lin En’s strength and unusual Soul Rings, she began trying to recruit him into the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 55 56.
Breaking with Shrek
Lin En demanded two million Gold Soul Coins for protecting her. Offended by the suggestion that her life might not be worth that amount, Rongrong raised the payment to three million herself. She also proposed attending Heaven Dou Royal Academy together and winning multiple tournament championships, but he declined 56 57.
Outside the forest, Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun accused her of betraying Shrek by accepting Skywater’s help. Lin En defended her. When Zhao Wuji then challenged her loyalty, she confronted Shrek over abandoning and isolating her and formally severed her ties with the academy 58 59.
Rongrong chose to accompany Lin En rather than return to Shrek. She paid him one million Gold Soul Coins immediately and promised the remainder after returning to her sect 59.
Seeking Justice
Back at the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Rongrong tearfully recounted her experiences to Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong. The Sword and Bone Douluo took her to Shrek to demand justice, intercepting Flender and Zhao Wuji as they prepared to flee 60 61.
Rongrong rejected Flender’s attempt to blame everything on Zhao Wuji, accusing the dean of initiating and enabling her mistreatment. Chen Xin punished Flender, while Gu Rong severely beat Zhao Wuji. Rongrong also confronted Dai Mubai, slapped him after Chen Xin subdued him, and later asked Gu Rong to punish Oscar and Ma Hongjun 62 64 66.
The confrontation escalated when Tang Hao intervened. After severing his arm during the ensuing conflict, Chen Xin gave Rongrong the fallen left-arm Soul Bone 65.
Xiao Wu and Heaven Dou Royal Academy
Rongrong approached Xiao Wu to comfort her after the fighting, then learned that her friend was a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast. The revelation distressed her, since Xiao Wu was the only Shrek companion she had gotten along with. Nevertheless, she decided to take Xiao Wu back to the sect 66.
The two subsequently enrolled at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Rongrong enjoyed the respect her sect status brought her there and renewed her efforts to recruit Lin En, offering him a leading position and her personal support. After he refused again, she enlisted Xiao Wu to help persuade him 77 78.
During Heaven Dou’s warm-up match against Skywater, Rongrong enhanced her teammates’ strength and speed. Lin En ultimately reached her and placed his Eight Spider Lances against her throat, eliminating her from the fight 80 81.
Appearance
- Complexion: Fair skin; after fleeing through the forest, she bears roughly a dozen superficial bloody scratches 52.
- Heaven Dou attire: A pale-blue flowing long dress with a blue waist sash, white lace-trimmed thigh-high stockings, and brown block heels 77.
- Fragrance: Wears an expensive perfume with a fresh, sachet-like scent blending numerous aromas 78.
Personality
Rongrong is proud, spoiled, and extravagant with her family’s wealth. Her decision to increase her own protection fee from two million to three million exemplifies both her pride and her casual attitude toward money. She later offers Lin En additional millions simply because his insults toward Shrek pleased her 57 60.
Danger makes her more cooperative. After her rescue, she suppresses her usual temper and actively tries to fit into Skywater’s group. Her hurt at Shrek’s rejection eventually hardens into resolve: she refuses Zhao Wuji’s explanation, leaves the academy, and returns with her protectors to confront those responsible 52 59 62.
She is playful, persistent, and willing to scheme for someone she wants to recruit. Her approaches to Lin En range from repeated questions and financial incentives to teasing and a joint plan with Xiao Wu. Her experience at Shrek also reinforces her belief that powerful backing determines how others treat a person 56 60 78 79.
