The projectile shot out in the opposite direction of the space station. Because the "United" space-based weapon station orbited the Earth, if the projectile were simply released without any external force, the initial velocity imparted by the station would cause it to orbit the Earth rather than descend towards the surface.
The projectile's trajectory in space could be roughly represented by an arc, and the thrusters at the tail of the projectile also fired flames a few seconds after deorbiting. Most of the space-based weapon's energy came from Earth's gravity; the thrusters were only responsible for orbital corrections and attitude adjustments.
Upon reaching the re-entry point and entering the atmosphere, the Heavenly Fire greatsword provided the final acceleration. The projectile re-entered in a ballistic trajectory, with no control over its attitude during the re-entry phase, which was the cause of the largest error in the entire process. After this, everything within the atmosphere depended on Kevin's manual corrections.
Dr. Mei's voice came through Sakura's tiny earpiece: "Sakura, keep the Eleventh Law-Ruler pinned in its current position. Kevin will be here soon."
Sakura nodded gently and then stopped holding back against the Law-Ruler, unleashing her true strength.
"Disappear!"
When the altitude indicator pointed to around 100km, Kevin suddenly felt his control over his body weaken. He stumbled, nearly falling face-first to the ground. But his Fusion Warrior physique was still intact, and opening the escape hatch was not a problem.
"Open the hatch!" When the altitude indicator pointed to 20km, a piece of paper suddenly popped out. The projectile had only 7 seconds left before hitting the ground. Kevin, holding Heavenly Fire, quickly pulled open the tungsten alloy hatch and jumped out. The speed of nearly Mach 8 meant that any tiny movement could send him into a spin, and he still had to manually correct the projectile's errors under these conditions.
Now only 10 kilometers from the ground, meaning he had only 3 seconds to correct his "trajectory."
Relying on the powerful eyesight granted by his Fusion Warrior body, he spotted the Eleventh Law-Ruler, its body shimmering with golden crosses. Sakura also saw him at this moment.
Sakura sighed softly, "If it weren't for the Honkai, we would have all had a good ending..."
The silver-haired Law-Ruler nodded slightly.
"But as I said, one can be defeated, but they must never be destroyed."
Sakura forcefully pushed the Law-Ruler away. In her peripheral vision, she saw someone, someone diving towards her at high speed, and they were only about a kilometer away!
"BOOM!" A massive explosion erupted from the forest behind Sakura. The projectile deviated from its course, landing in the forest hundreds of meters from the original location. Chunks of earth and sand blasted into the sky rained down on Sakura and the Law-Ruler's heads.
The Law-Ruler instinctively tried to create distance, but at a distance of 1 kilometer and a speed of nearly Mach 7, she only had 0.4 seconds to react and act. She was too late!
Kevin crashed into the Law-Ruler, smashing into the ground with her. The sudden, intense pain caused the Eleventh Law-Ruler to forget to maintain its barrier. Sakura and Kevin's bodily functions, which had been in chaos, also stabilized, and they regained control of their bodies.
As the dust settled, Kevin's figure was revealed. He picked up Heavenly Fire beside him and stood up. Sakura also quickly rushed over. They exchanged glances and searched the circular dirt pit for the Law-Ruler's body.
After a while, they found the Law-Ruler's body covered in dirt, face down. Kevin and Sakura let out a long sigh of relief. The eleventh Honkai had finally ended.
"Mei, the Eleventh Law-Ruler has been confirmed killed. The body can be recovered," Kevin said into the communicator.
"Understood, we'll be right there."
Kevin walked to the Eleventh Law-Ruler's body and turned it over. Golden blood flowed from its features, sliding down its skin and onto the ground. It seemed to be dead.
The Law-Ruler slowly opened its eyes, a mournful expression appearing on its dirt-covered face.
"Everything everyone has done is meaningless..."
"Damn it!" He swung his Heavenly Fire greatsword swiftly, stabbing towards the Law-Ruler's chest.
A golden barrier reappeared on the ground.
"It's over, I can't move my body..." The Heavenly Fire, aimed at the Law-Ruler, was blocked. Half of the blade embedded itself in its left arm. With a slight swing, Kevin was thrown backward onto the ground, but Heavenly Fire remained in his hand.
The Law-Ruler pushed itself up with its right hand, half of its body exposed, the other half still buried in the dirt. No, Kevin steadied his mind and looked at the Law-Ruler. It only had half a body; its lower half and feet had been severed by the Heavenly Fire greatsword, a gruesome sight.
Sakura and Kevin could only rely on their weapons to stand up, barely. Their Fusion Warrior bodies remained, but due to the renewed chaos in their bodily functions, simply standing took all their strength, let alone swinging their swords at the Law-Ruler.
The Law-Ruler's left hand clutched a severed leg – its right foot. It brought the severed right foot to the stump, and blood still flowed from the wound.
There was no sadness, no pain. The Law-Ruler, using only its left hand, crawled towards the other severed leg. A few thin strands of blood connected the stump of its right leg to its right foot. After completing a series of horrifying actions, it merely expressed its longing for loved ones.
Kevin was too weak to climb back to his feet. Sakura was the only one still standing on the field. Clearly, her condition was even worse; hours of combat, plus the second wave of bodily function chaos, meant she was only holding on through sheer willpower. The tip of her sword dug into the dirt, again and again, as she limped towards Kevin, using her Cold Prison Ice Sky like a crutch.
She reached Kevin's side and pulled him up, but she could no longer support her own body. With a dull thud, she collapsed powerlessly to the ground.
"You've worked hard."
Sakura nodded slightly and then closed her eyes, falling into unconsciousness.
Kevin estimated they had only 40 seconds. He walked towards the Eleventh Law-Ruler, his steps dragging on the ground, making his way to the Law-Ruler with great difficulty.
However, his expression was calm, showing no signs of his bodily functions collapsing. The Law-Ruler of Restraint knew it was just a facade; these two would be dead in a few dozen seconds.
"If you have any last words, I can tell Dr. Mei," the Law-Ruler said, leaning against the edge of the dirt pit. Its severed limbs were connected by strands of blood, slowly moving towards the stumps.
"No, I won't say last words, and neither will you." Kevin drew the pistol from his waist. From the beginning, Kevin's trench coat had concealed this pistol, so the Law-Ruler had not seen that he was still hiding it. It was an old, large-caliber handgun with no electronic components, relying on the chemical energy of gunpowder to generate high temperatures and pressure to expel the bullet from the barrel.
This gun was a product of decades past, specifically designed for hunting large animals. Its design specifications included: "penetrating the skull of a mammoth."
Kevin aimed the muzzle at the Law-Ruler's forehead and pulled the trigger. The gunshot echoed throughout the forest.
