After all the opponents had left, Dr. Mei rose from the observers' seats and walked to the podium. Fu Hua had also attended the meeting as Dr. Mei's security detail, and the two of them had witnessed the entire proceedings firsthand.
She stepped onto the podium while Fu Hua remained in a corner below.
Her cool voice reached every council member through the speakers. "Though I personally am not surprised by this outcome, this matter is of great importance. We still do not understand the Twelfth Law-Ruler's abilities. Rashly executing her may instead bring unforeseen consequences."
"Furthermore, I believe a living Law-Ruler would be more useful than her corpse. Therefore, I hope everyone will weigh the pros and cons of this proposal once more. As the leader of Fire Moth, I am submitting a second amendment to the council."
"Under council law, the amendment will be put to a vote one month from today. I hope that during this month, everyone can calm down and think carefully."
The moment she finished speaking, the victors were both shocked and enraged. A month might have meant nothing in peacetime, but this was now a life-or-death crisis.
"By then, the next Law-Ruler might already be here!"
The council chamber instantly erupted into an uproar, one that could even have developed into a riot. Everywhere she looked, the victors were seething with rage. Yet under Fu Hua's pressure, none of them dared do anything excessive. Besides, these were rules established by the constitution, and the council members could only swallow their anger.
Dr. Mei silently watched the council members reveal their many faces, then walked out of the chamber beneath their furious glares.
