Constantine rubbed his forehead. "Kleist, was there a problem with the awakening procedure?"
"Correct. The awakening procedure malfunctioned. The cryogenic fluid in the hibernation pod was drained, but the awakening procedure then terminated. What is certain is that we underwent an adaptation process." Kleist touched the inside surface of the hibernation pod. His dry fingers felt no trace of liquid. If Kleist had been forcibly awakened, he could not have recovered so quickly, much less dismantled the sturdy hibernation pod in just a few minutes after waking.
"Could it have been caused by these people breaking in?" Constantine continued.
"Unlikely." Lex was mostly awake now. "Their clothing and behavior indicate that they posed no threat to the control room or the reactor."
The sharpest thing the local intruders carried was an obsidian stone pickaxe. But an alloy security door could not be broken open by a mere obsidian pickaxe.
"Based on what we experienced, it seems more likely that insufficient power caused the awakening procedure to be interrupted."
The three of them were speaking in the common language of the Previous Era.
Constantine cut them off. "Anyway, let's ask first." Kleist nodded, then spoke in their language. "How did you get in?"
Everyone around them lowered their heads. Huku was practically pressing his forehead to the ground as he answered shakily, "Heavenly gods, I brought them in."
"That day... today, Chakatu and I were hunting. We were shooting red deer when, while running, I suddenly fell into a hole. Chakatu ran back to the tribe to find people to save me. But I saw something glinting inside the hole, so I went closer to look. How was I supposed to know it was the resting place of the three heavenly gods?"
"Take us to the place where you entered." Kleist
