Background / History

Previous Life and Divine Birth

Xu Jingyao remembers being a university student in another world and attributes his transmigration to a Dayun truck inexplicably striking him eighteen floors above ground. In his new life, he is the son of the God of Destruction and the Goddess of Life, retaining partial foreknowledge of the Douluo Continent’s history and future 1 5 16.

He and Tang Wulin arrive in the Peerless Tang Sect era and are taken in by Xu Tianran. Their first encounter is violent—Xu Tianran nearly strangles Xu Jingyao—but the crown prince subsequently raises him with exceptional care and falsely presents him as having imperial blood. Tang Wulin is placed under a subordinate and assigned the code name “50” before Xu Jingyao takes him into his service and restores his name 1 4.

Awakening and Imperial Adoption

At six, Xu Jingyao awakens before the emperor and Xu Tianran. His sword martial soul appears amid seven-colored elemental light, followed by an enormous humanoid divine manifestation. The release of life and destruction power shatters the awakening chamber’s barrier 1 2.

His innate level-20 soul power prompts the emperor to adopt him, elevate his rank, and exempt him from bowing in imperial audiences. Xu Jingyao chooses “Unrestrained” as his title, while Xu Tianran publicly declares him his only younger brother. That night, his divine parents leave their transformed artifacts on his hands as he sleeps 2 3.

Appearance

  • Hair and eyes: Long black hair and eyes in which violet and emerald green intertwine. His eyes become entirely emerald when he channels healing power 7 8 13.
  • Build: Tall and slender. At twelve, he initially resembles an eighteen- or nineteen-year-old; by his formal Shrek visit, he stands slightly over 1.9 metres and appears to be in his early twenties 16 20 21.
  • Royal attire: Silver-moon-white robes with gold trim and sun-and-moon embroidery, sometimes accompanied by a cape 7 13.
  • Pavilion identity: Blue-green robes, a jade belt, and a golden mask decorated with a half-rotted tree and a sword 16 20.

Personality

Xu Jingyao maintains an approachable, courteous public manner. He treats a palace eunuch without contempt, greets Kong Deming respectfully, and conducts business with measured politeness. Beneath that presentation, he continually assesses other people’s motives and the risks attached to his position 1 5 22.

His caution is particularly evident in his relationship with Xu Tianran. Although genuinely grateful for his upbringing, he refuses to base his safety solely on brotherly affection. He deliberately treats Xu Tianran’s injuries gradually, preserving his own importance until he becomes stronger 7 8 10.

He is ruthless toward enemies and willing to manipulate others. After killing his assassins, he preserves their heads and orders them displayed at the responsible princes’ residences. His longer-term plans include turning Tang Wulin against Tang San and exploiting resentment toward Shrek Academy 4 7 28.

His ambition centres on survival, godhood, defeating Tang San, and strengthening the Sun Moon Empire rather than saving everyone indiscriminately. Away from court, he becomes playful and openly indulgent: he teases Xu Tianran, praises his own looks, and eagerly samples street food when freed from princely etiquette 7 9 10 33.

Abilities & Skills

Antique Long Sword

A translucent, ancient-looking sword without a sharpened edge or point. Its awakening reveals command over seven great elements alongside the powers of creation and order 1 2 6.

  • Heaven-Burning Sword Dance: Engulfs enemies in crimson flames possessing Ultimate Fire and destruction attributes. The flames burn flesh and souls, resist suppression, and cut off escape routes 6.
  • Wind-Chanting Sword Song: Amplifies the flames of Heaven-Burning Sword Dance; Xu Jingyao combines the techniques to kill twelve assassins ranging from Soul Ancestor to Soul Emperor 6.
  • Ice sword manifestation: Forms a translucent blue longsword while preparing to intervene in Ye Guyi’s battle with Evil Soul Masters 12.

Life Ash Body

A body martial soul manifested as an enormous humanoid divine aspect resembling Xu Jingyao. It holds emerald life power in its left hand and dark-purple destruction power in its right 2 34 36.

  • Disintegration: Destroys a Soul Emperor-level Evil Soul Master with the Power of Destruction 34.
  • Opposing attributes: Du Busi personally confirms that the martial soul contains both life and destruction 36.

Life Divine Core and Healing

His Life Divine Core supplies the Life Force used in restorative treatment and exchanges with spiritual plants 8 31 32.

  • Injury treatment: Restores movement to Xu Tianran’s left leg, establishing the possibility of a fuller recovery 8.
  • Controlled delivery: Can precisely regulate the flow of Life Force; he intentionally slows Xu Tianran’s treatment and exaggerates his exhaustion 7 8.
  • Origin purification: Exchanges small amounts of Life Force for immortal-herb essence, replenishing and purifying the herbs’ origins without requiring their sacrifice 31 32.
  • Vitality perception: Detects the powerful life energy beneath the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 30.

Divine Cores and Spiritual Protection

Life and destruction continually collide and fuse within him, producing silvery-gold Soul Power. His Sea of Consciousness contains vast life and destruction energies and the remnant souls of his divine parents 6 18 23.

  • Resistance to spiritual pressure: Tian Meng’s pressure enters his Sea of Consciousness without disturbing it, although it overwhelms Shadow Douluo 17.
  • Divine suppression: Channels silver divine power into Tang Wulin to suppress “Old Tang” and reinforce the chains in his divine soul 10.
  • Spiritual growth: Tian Meng’s Spiritual Origin substantially increases his spiritual power 18 20.
  • Stored origins: Holds fire, ice, and immortal-herb origins around his two divine cores; these remain dormant after acquisition 32.

Fusion and Movement Techniques

  • Self martial soul fusion: Claims that using his twin martial souls and fusion skill at full strength makes him unmatched below Titled Douluo. This is his own assessment, offered when requesting permission to travel 15.
  • Flash Step: Uses the technique to vanish from his study while preparing his journey 15.

Foreknowledge and Commercial Strategy

His knowledge combines the history of his previous world with partial foreknowledge of the Douluo Continent 16.

  • Opportunity interception: Follows Huo Yuhao to acquire Tian Meng and Electrolux, then targets the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well before Tang San can respond 15 18 29.
  • Mass-market organization: Builds the Carefree Pavilion around assembly lines, distribution chains, and low-margin, high-volume sales 10.
  • Technical appropriation: Orders useful Tang Sect hidden-weapon mechanisms compiled into manuals and incorporated into future soul-tool designs 19.
  • Negotiation: Uses purchase thresholds, preferential prices, scholarships, and discreet procurement to pursue commercial and political leverage 22 27 28.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Destruction ring: The God of Destruction’s purple scepter transformed into a ring on Xu Jingyao’s right hand. It reflects Yan Shaozhe’s attack at twice its strength and supplies the destruction power used to seal the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 3 25 33.
  • Life bracelet: A tree-shaped divine artifact transformed by the Goddess of Life into a bracelet on his left wrist. It warms during Xu Tianran’s treatment, although Xu Jingyao initially believes he lacks the strength to use it directly 3 9.
  • Rank-nine protective mask: Custom-made by Kong Deming, combining a protective barrier with aura concealment. Its golden exterior bears Xu Jingyao’s requested tree-and-sword design 16.
  • Class 7 defensive soul tool: Left for him by Xu Tianran shortly after awakening 4.
  • Protective badge: Generates a golden shield that stops poisoned needles during the assassination attempt 6.
  • Storage Soul Tool: Carries his travel supplies and smaller devices 15 17.
  • Locator Gems: Carefree Pavilion tracking devices small enough to hide in a dagger hilt, with a range covering more than half the continent. He plants them in Huo Yuhao’s White Tiger Dagger 17 18.
  • Folding fan: Regularly carried during audiences and negotiations, often used to conceal part of his face 10 21 22.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Assassination Conspiracy

Soon after moving into the Carefree King’s Residence, Xu Jingyao kills twelve assassins using his sword martial soul. Shadow Douluo’s investigation implicates every other imperial prince except Xu Tianran, including the deposed second prince. Xu Jingyao retaliates by having the assassins’ heads hung at their residences and brings the matter before his brother and the emperor 5 6 7.

The resulting palace meeting ends with the other princes paying him ten years of their stipends. Soul engineers unwilling to manufacture weapons also enter his service, forming the foundation of his independent organization 10.

Founding the Carefree Pavilion

A year after the palace settlement, Xu Jingyao formally establishes the Carefree Pavilion. It sells everyday soul tools, food, and other goods through an integrated production and sales network, with the emperor and crown prince deterring interference 10.

Following the six-year time skip, he expands his commercial dealings through negotiations with Shangguan Wei’er of the Ordinary Alliance. He accepts a sixty-forty profit split while remaining wary of the military-backed Aodu Chamber of Commerce and the Evil Soul Masters of the Xishui Alliance 10 12.

Intercepting Huo Yuhao’s Opportunities

Travelling as Ziqing, Xu Jingyao secretly follows Huo Yuhao from the vicinity of the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion into the Star Dou Great Forest. When Tian Meng appears, he persuades the silkworm to merge with him instead. Electrolux’s remnant soul enters his Sea of Consciousness during the same event 16 17 18.

Xu Jingyao leaves Huo Yuhao alive and unconscious, carrying a hidden tracking gem in his dagger. Bei Bei and Tang Ya subsequently find and carry the boy away 18.

Shrek Academy Dealings and Rupture

At Shrek Academy, Xu Jingyao negotiates discounted supplies, custom teaching soul tools at cost plus ten percent, and jointly reviewed scholarships for Outer Court students. During his stay beside Sea God Lake, the Golden Tree recognizes his divine connections and accepts him as its master 22 23.

The partnership collapses after Zhou Yi mistakes him for a student and insults him. Xu Jingyao strikes her and cancels the agreements; when Yan Shaozhe attempts to stop him with an attack, his destruction ring reflects it and seriously injures the dean 24 25.

He refuses reconciliation but preserves a discreet pill-purchasing arrangement through Treasure Pavilion, paying market prices plus a ten-percent procurement fee. The pills are intended chiefly for Sun Moon talents and Tang Wulin rather than his own cultivation 27 28.

Securing the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

At the Well, the immortal herbs recognize Xu Jingyao as the Great Life Overlord and offer to sacrifice themselves. He refuses and instead trades Life Force for portions of their essence, acquiring several origins without destroying the plants 31 32.

He then seals the location with destruction power. Only his aura can open the passage, and he declares his intention to make the area Sun Moon territory 33.

Contact with the Body Sect

After a leisurely stop in Qingya City, Xu Jingyao rescues Tie Hu from a Soul Emperor-level Evil Soul Master. Tie Hu recognizes his manifestation as an extraordinary body martial soul and brings him to the Body Sect 33 34 35.

Du Busi meets him personally and confirms the Life Ash Body’s opposing attributes. Their discussion reaches questions about Xu Jingyao’s identity and age; he has not yet joined the sect in the supplied material 36.
