Refuge in the Lake of Life

Gu Yuena was the Silver Dragon King and supreme sovereign of the Soul Beast Clan. Following the Dragon God's descent into madness, the Golden Dragon King was ambushed and sealed, most soul-beast deities were slaughtered, and soul beasts were forbidden from becoming gods. Gravely wounded herself, Gu Yuena fled to the lower realm and concealed herself in the Lake of Life 1 2.

When Yao Xuan awakened in the Star Dou Great Forest, she recognized an aura surpassing even the Dragon God. She emerged from the lake, received the reverence of Di Tian and the other Ferocious Beasts, and involuntarily knelt as her Silver Dragon King origin responded to his bloodline 1.

Becoming Yao Xuan's Maid

Gu Yuena begged Yao Xuan to save the Soul Beast Clan. He initially dismissed its plight, offering only the possibility of assistance after enjoying his travels. Even after he killed Xiong Jun for insulting him, she continued pleading, interpreting his overwhelming strength as hope for her people 2.

Yao Xuan demanded that she become his maid in exchange for considering her requests. She struggled with the loss of her sovereign dignity but accepted for the sake of the soul beasts. He then rewarded her submission with a drop of Ancestral Dragon blood, healing her and restoring her to the First-Level God realm. Her resentment gave way to worship, gratitude, and attraction to his human form 2 3.

Before they departed, Yao Xuan instructed her to call him “Master” in private and “Brother Xuan” in public 4.

Protecting and Training Xiao Wu

In Nuoding City, Gu Yuena identified Xiao Wu as a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast. After hearing that Xiao Wu's parents were missing, she comforted her and obtained Yao Xuan's permission to bring her along. She offered to conceal Xiao Wu's aura, but accepted his plan to leave it exposed as bait for hostile Soul Masters 4 5.

At Yao Xuan's request, she formally accepted Xiao Wu as her disciple for the six-month wager against Tang San and Yu Xiaogang. When Tang Hao attempted to capture Xiao Wu, Gu Yuena shattered his attack, imprisoned him in an elemental barrier, and later crushed him to death. Yao Xuan—not Gu Yuena—then extracted his soul and subjected it to further punishment 8 9 10 11.

Her subsequent training improved Xiao Wu's cultivation, combat skills, and evasive ability. During the public challenge to Yu Xiaogang's theories, she also used divine power to simulate two thousand-year soul rings and a ten-thousand-year third ring at Yao Xuan's direction 18 19 25 27.

Spirit Hall and Marriage

After leaving Nuoding City, Gu Yuena accompanied Yao Xuan to Spirit City. In the Worship Hall, she suppressed Qian Daoliu and the assembled Enshrined with seven-colored elemental power, forcing them to their knees before they could resist 33 34 36.

Hu Liena and Qian Renxue's growing affection for Yao Xuan made Gu Yuena fear losing her place beside him. She entered his room and asked to deepen their relationship. Afterward, he recognized her as his first wife, assured her that no one could replace her, and promised to resolve the Soul Beast Clan's predicament after their travels 39.

Return to Traveling and Shrek Academy

Following five years in Spirit City, Gu Yuena resumed traveling with Yao Xuan, Xiao Wu, and Qian Renxue. She was present when he transformed the Auspicious Beast into Wang Qiu'er. Secure in her position as his first wife, she no longer competed openly with the others for his attention 39 40.

At Shrek Academy, she defeated Zhao Wuji and Flender with a raised hand, shattering their Martial Soul manifestations and helping Yao Xuan take control of the academy. She did not join his new team wager against Yu Xiaogang; instead, she provided personal instruction and sparring for Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, Wang Qiu'er, and Qian Renxue 44 47 49.

Personality

Gu Yuena's responsibility toward the Soul Beast Clan outweighs her personal pride. Although becoming a maid deeply humiliates her, she accepts the arrangement to secure a chance of survival for her people. Her concern also extends to individuals: she comforts Xiao Wu, invites her into the group, and later responds warmly to the younger women's requests for cultivation guidance 2 5 42.

Her compassion toward soul beasts contrasts with her ruthlessness toward their enemies. She regards Tang Hao's soul rings and soul bones as evidence of soul-beast deaths and shows no mercy after his attempt to seize Xiao Wu. Nevertheless, she restrains her killing intent when Yao Xuan orders her not to kill without permission 7 8 9 11.

Toward Yao Xuan, she is admiring, obedient, and eager for praise. Her attachment includes jealousy over his gifts and anxiety about romantic rivals. His recognition of her as his first wife gives her greater confidence, reflected in her composed behavior when the other women compete for his affection 11 15 39 40.
