Background / History

Big Yellow was originally an ordinary yellow dog from Soul King Village. He and the village’s white goose, Big White, were especially close to Xu Jie. When Xu Jie offered the villagers either an opportunity to cultivate overseas or lifelong wealth, the villagers chose wealth and departed. The two animals stayed behind, unwilling to part with him, so Xu Jie took them along to cultivate immortality 1.

Over the next nine years, Big Yellow reached Golden Core and began learning artifact refining. Xu Jie praised these accomplishments as exceptional, but Big Yellow considered himself unintelligent beside his master, who had reached perfected Mahayana and mastered several cultivation disciplines in the same period 16.

Appearance

He is boastful toward outsiders but self-deprecating about his own talent. He proudly calls himself Xu Jie’s “foremost running dog,” yet regards his master’s encouragement as consolation rather than an accurate assessment of his abilities 16 19.

Food is a powerful motivator. Exposure by the Sky Curtain

The Sky Curtain identifies Big Yellow and Big White as Golden Core monster spirits belonging to Mount Lu Residence. The household places first on the faction ranking despite having only three residents, and Big Yellow receives the reward that brings him to the Second Layer of Golden Core 10 11 13.

Dispute with Yu Xiaogang

While Xu Jie and Big White continue their breakthroughs, Big Yellow reads Yu Xiaogang’s claim that Golden Core cultivators surpass Mahayana cultivators. He publicly rejects the theory, prompting Yan and other Chat Channel users to denounce Yu Xiaogang as a fraud 13 14.

When Yu Xiaogang urges the monsters to expel Xu Jie, Big Yellow reveals that Xu Jie is their master, not their disciple. He later confirms that all three came from Soul King Village and dismisses the argument that Xu Jie’s youth makes his cultivation impossible. He ends the exchange when Xu Jie and Big White awaken 15 16 17.

Guarding Mount Lu and Receiving Gu Yuena

Xu Jie leaves Big Yellow and Big White to guard Mount Lu while he enters the mortal world to temper his state of mind. Soon afterward, Gu Yuena arrives seeking cooperation against the Divine Realm. Big Yellow instead demands dragon meat in exchange for protection; she attacks after his repeated provocations, and he effortlessly subdues her 18 19.

Big Yellow cuts off one of her hind legs, compensates her with Big White’s fifth-tier pill, and brings the meat home for lunch. He then escorts Gu Yuena to the residence, where she joins them for the medicinal meal and learns more about Xu Jie 20.

When Gu Yuena asks to learn immortal cultivation, Big Yellow persuades Big White to accept her as Xu Jie’s disciple in his absence. He falsely claims that disciples must share their master’s bed, hoping to provide Xu Jie with a beautiful companion and help Big White resolve her own plans for taking human form 21.

Refusing Outside Demands

Big Yellow rejects Bibi Dong’s attempt to dictate whether Mount Lu Residence may accept Yan, insisting that its recruitment is none of her business 24.

He later refuses the Sea God’s demand for immortal cultivation techniques, delivered by Bo Saixi. He maintains that the Sea God must seek apprenticeship under Xu Jie to receive them.
