Background

Yue Guan’s first killing occurred in the Star Dou Great Forest, where a five-person Soul Hunting team targeted him because he was alone and planned to steal his savings. He remembers the encounter while watching Tang Mo kill highway bandits 19.

Like Gui Mei, Yue Guan received guidance from Qian Daoliu before becoming one of Bibi Dong’s trusted aides. His service to Bibi Dong rests substantially on the resources and authority she controls, rather than unconditional personal allegiance 58.

Despite reaching rank ninety-five, Yue Guan developed his Martial Soul along an unsuitable path. He treated the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum as an ordinary plant-type Martial Soul instead of drawing out its inherent vitality and body-strengthening properties. His achievement is attributed to exceptional talent rather than correct cultivation methods 16.

Personality

Yue Guan is playful and enjoys watching other people’s reactions. He initially approaches Tang Mo intending to tease him, later watches his encounters with hostile Soul Masters with open interest, and snacks on seeds while observing his duel with Chen Xin 14 75 79.

He is also a calculating patron. Recognizing Tang Mo’s potential, he deliberately invests in him through gifts, protection, and instruction. His planned lesson in killing is intended to make him an unforgettable figure in the boy’s life, though Tang Mo’s composure overturns his expectations 15 18 20.

His experience does not make him a strategist. Years devoted chiefly to cultivation leave him comparatively unpracticed in tactical reasoning, but he readily accepts Tang Mo’s explanation of Tang Hao’s diversion and asks for his assessment of the next move 17.

Yue Guan’s affection for Hu Liena is grandfatherly without being wholly indulgent. He allows her to experience the consequences of provoking Tang Mo and later insists that she hunt her own Soul Ring, while remaining nearby to protect her 22 23 62 63.

Recruiting Tang Mo

Yue Guan and Gui Mei arrive near Nuoding City shortly after Tang Hao withdraws. Tang Mo’s ability to locate them while they observe from above immediately attracts their attention 12 14.

Yue Guan offers a storage belt as the prize for enduring his pressure. When Tang Mo uses the trial to fuse his Dark Gold Dreadclaws, Yue Guan discovers the External Soul Bones in both hands and rejects a brief impulse of greed. He continues assisting the fusion and honors the promised reward 15 16.

After Tang Mo identifies Tang Hao’s noisy fighting as a possible diversion, the two Titled Douluos abandon their pursuit and prioritize taking him safely to Spirit City. During the journey, Yue Guan negotiates for Gui Mei to receive instruction in the Guan Zizai Heart Method and arranges an encounter with bandits as a lesson in killing. Tang Mo instead dispatches eleven attackers without visible distress 17 18 19 20.

Coastal Expedition

Yue Guan accompanies Tang Mo and Hu Liena to Vast Sea City. He guards Tang Mo during the Azure Sea Killer Whale contract, challenges Gu Rong’s approach to Spirit Hall’s perimeter, and acknowledges that the unfamiliar ritual exceeds his experience 30 32 34.

When the Evil Spirit Orcas threaten the city with a tsunami, Yue Guan joins Gu Rong and Gui Mei in attacking them. He uses his sixth and ninth Soul Skills against the clan’s combined attack, then adds a concentrated eighth Soul Skill against its mirror defense. Afterward, he checks Tang Mo’s physique before permitting him to absorb a twenty-thousand-year Evil Spirit Orca Soul Ring 43 44 45.

Spirit Hall’s Internal Politics

After overhearing Tang Mo advise Qian Renxue, Yue Guan admits that he feels trapped between her and Bibi Dong. Challenged to identify the object of his loyalty, he declares allegiance to Spirit Hall itself. Tang Mo then gives him records implicating Spirit Hall members in the pirates’ activities as part of an effort to shift power away from Bibi Dong 58.

Artifact Trials and the Soul Banner

Tang Mo recruits Yue Guan and Gui Mei for an expedition against the Sea Dragon Sect, intended to test disposable artifacts before confronting Tang Hao. Yue Guan’s first test of the Soul-Shaking Bell reveals its ability to affect a Titled Douluo’s soul; on the journey, he demonstrates three artifacts against the secretly following Gu Rong 83 84.

When Gui Mei becomes the Soul Banner’s primary soul, Yue Guan cries out and reaches for the banner. Gui Mei’s erupting Soul Power drives him back before Tang Mo releases his partner 85.
