Background / History

Ah Yin’s elder brother

Lan Changsheng spent much of his million-year life concerned chiefly with becoming a god. Around ninety thousand years before the opening events, he answered a bloodline call in the Star Dou Great Forest and found a young Blue Silver Emperor in the form of a willow tree. He named her Ah Yin and remained beside her as her guardian and chosen elder brother 1.

During his final sixty years of seclusion, Ah Yin took human form, married Tang Hao, and gave birth to Tang San. Lan Changsheng learned from the system that she had sacrificed herself six years earlier while fleeing Spirit Hall and survived only as a seed carried by Tang Hao 1.

Return and conflict with Spirit Hall

After observing Tang San at Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy, Lan Changsheng confronted Tang Hao. He overwhelmingly defeated Tang Hao’s Clear Sky True Body, established his relationship to Ah Yin, and received her seed. It sprouted in his hands, and Ah Yin addressed him as her brother 1 3.

He then sought revenge against Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo in Spirit City. Their confrontation drew Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu into battle. When Bibi Dong ordered the surrounding Blue Silver Grass uprooted and burned, Lan Changsheng fought to protect the plants as well as himself. During the battle, he and Ah Yin swore an oath linking their lives and fates 5 9 11 12.

Spirit Hall subsequently persecuted Blue Silver Grass Soul Masters to draw him out. His attempts to rescue captives exposed a gap in his understanding of human society: some preferred Spirit City’s food and shelter to the uncertain freedom he offered 25 26.

Restoring the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Lan Changsheng entered Dugu Bo’s valley seeking resources useful to Ah Yin’s revival. After treating Dugu Bo’s poisoning, he declined sole ownership of the valley and agreed to manage it jointly. He reorganized its immortal herbs, purified its vegetation, and made the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well a base for Ah Yin’s recovery 18 19 20.

Repeated fighting damaged the surrounding ecosystem and delayed his Second Trial. He and Ah Yin spent six months restoring the forest, but plants alone were insufficient: the habitat still lacked large animal herds and a stable energy cycle. His eventual understanding of that cycle completed the trial 54 61 65.

Establishing Soul Spirit symbiosis

Dugu Yan’s relationship with the Shadow Python inspired Lan Changsheng to investigate a cultivation path that would not require humans to hunt Soul Beasts. With a willing ten-thousand-year Earth Bear, he learned to preserve a deceased Soul Beast’s soul in its Soul Bone and form a pact with a human 54 95.

He developed Symbiosis Towers and Subtowers to support Soul Spirit contracts. When the Silver Dragon King questioned whether this was another form of enslavement, he swore a Heavenly Dao Oath to preserve equal contracts, maintain checks and balances, and defend Soul Beasts against human betrayal. She accepted his pledge and supported voluntary participation by the Soul Beasts under her command 112 119 120.

Divine interference and the Rakshasa conflict

The Asura God drew Tang San into a temporal rift before Lan Changsheng could intervene. Lan Changsheng later destroyed Slaughter City, defeated Tang Chen, and purged the Rakshasa God’s hidden influence from Tang Chen’s Divine Soul. He assured Tang San that his cultivation path remained his own choice 129 137.

While Lan Changsheng’s growing detachment left him unwilling to intervene, Bibi Dong attacked weaknesses in the symbiosis system with Rakshasa Evil Seeds. His concern for Ah Yin and Lan Yi eventually stirred his dormant humanity. He returned to action, cleansed the corruption across the continent, and defeated Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu together 141 142 143 144 147.

Ah Yin’s revival and battle with a god

Ah Yin ultimately rebuilt her body through Lan Changsheng’s divine power and prolonged care. He reunited her with Tang Hao while continuing to monitor Tang San’s movements and the divine arrangements surrounding him on Sea God Island 150 152 153.

During the Soul Fighting Arena crisis, Lan Changsheng appeared to protect Chi Wang and confronted Bibi Dong and the descended Rakshasa God. Drawing on continental life force and the Silver Dragon King’s support, he pierced Bibi Dong’s chest and damaged the god’s divine body. He pursued the retreating deity despite catastrophic damage to his own body and Divine Soul 159 160 161 162.

His latest provided appearance places him on a reef apart from Tang San’s reunited family. He remains calm and distant while listening to their reunion 163.

Appearance

Lan Changsheng assumes the form of an extraordinarily handsome, slender young man, despite his million-year lifespan 1 4 6.

  • Hair: Long silver hair, also described as silver-blue 1 3 4.
  • Eyes: Green, with a gaze that initially conveys the weight of his long life 1 4.
  • Forehead marking: A Blue Silver Emperor Pattern between his brows 1.
  • Clothing: Initially wears silver robes embroidered with intricate blue patterns; later appearances include blue-green and white robes 2 138 144.
  • Blood: Silver when his palm is injured during battle 11.
  • Divine aura: Frequently manifests emerald-gold light as his Life Great Path develops 143 147.

Personality

Protective, independent, and willing to learn

Lan Changsheng’s strongest personal attachment is to Ah Yin. News of her sacrifice shatters the composure he cultivated over a million years, and his failure to reach her in time becomes a lasting source of guilt. His protection extends to Tang San, Xiao Wu, Dugu Bo’s family, and vulnerable Soul Beasts 1 3 24 40 78.

As a teacher, he opposes treating established theories as unquestionable rules. He encourages Tang San to think independently and insists that Blue Silver Grass need not follow Yu Xiaogang’s prescribed control path. He also accepts that his nephew needs challenges rather than constant protection from a Titled Douluo 5 14 15 16.

He distinguishes individuals from their affiliations. Although he seeks revenge against Spirit Hall, he admires its free Martial Soul awakenings and allowances for common-born Soul Masters. His encounters with displaced captives also make him recognize how poorly his long experience as a Soul Beast prepares him for human society 5 25 26.

His compassion is not pacifism. He refuses to hunt Soul Beasts merely to advance Tang San’s cultivation, but advises decisive action against malicious humans or Soul Beasts and kills attackers who threaten the children 54 59 65.

Erosion of emotion

His divine advancement progressively removes his emotions. The First Trial takes fear; later trials leave him without sadness and sorrow. Faith from the Life God Church further reshapes him toward the gentleness, tolerance, and generosity its followers expect, eventually eroding disgust as well 12 13 129.

This outward benevolence becomes increasingly impersonal. Ah Yin is frightened by his calm response to Tang San’s disappearance, while Tang San interprets his conduct at Slaughter City as the indifference of someone looking down upon all living beings. After the Fifth Trial, Lan Changsheng briefly loses even the desire to protect his own work 129 137 142.

Concern for Ah Yin and Lan Yi rekindles enough humanity for him to act against the Rakshasa corruption, but it does not restore lasting emotional warmth. Before Ah Yin’s revival, he practices a reassuring smile that he can no longer genuinely feel. Chi Wang later recognizes that smile as a mask, and his final documented law transformation completes the stripping away of his emotions 143 149 150 154 162.

Abilities & Skills

Life Divine Power and the Law of Life

His central power governs vitality, growth, healing, and the circulation of life energy 6 19 65.

  • Supplies the divine power needed to restore Ah Yin from her seed state and rebuild her body 19 152 153.
  • Heals severe injuries and regenerates lost tissue, including the Iron-Armed Azure Ape’s missing eye 65 78.
  • Creates a poison-resistant storage organ inside Dugu Bo, allowing him to retain his poison cultivation 19.
  • Guides Dugu Yan’s bodily and Martial Soul transformation 24 25.
  • Gives Ghost Douluo’s otherwise elusive Martial Soul enough physical substance to seize it 6.
  • Can destroy rather than heal: he reduces the rank-eighty-five Chi Heng to ash with a touch 65.
  • Does not provide unlimited endurance; major attacks can drain his Soul Power, while excessive borrowed life force can rupture his body 12 162.

Blue Silver Grass Manipulation

Lan Changsheng shapes Blue Silver Grass into weapons, restraints, platforms, humanoid constructs, and buildings’ temporary supports 3 8 105.

  • Blue Silver Emperor Spear: Compresses grass and its vitality into a silver-blue spear sharp enough to cut space and pierce Tang Hao’s Martial Soul Avatar 3 4.
  • Blue Silver Cage: Absorbs and disperses the Soul Power Tang Hao releases while attempting Ring Detonation 3.
  • Grass figures: Creates spear-wielding doubles that continuously regenerate through Life Divine Power 8.
  • Blue Silver Spider Spears: Adapts Bibi Dong’s fighting form into grass-made limbs for anchoring himself and blocking simultaneous attacks 9.
  • Grass filaments: Disperses his spear into numerous strands that swarm Bibi Dong’s armor 35.
  • Construction: Collects materials and rebuilds Shrek Academy’s ruined kitchen with Blue Silver Grass 105.
  • Limitation: His grass constructs can lose effectiveness when attacks erode the plants’ faint consciousnesses 8.

Blue Silver Imperial Emperor Domain

His domain strengthens surrounding Blue Silver Grass into a lethal battlefield force 65.

  • Turns grass into golden, lightning-like attacks and uses its growth to overwhelm fleeing opponents 65.
  • Is initially shattered by the Rakshasa God’s attack 161.
  • Transforms when reinforced by continental life force and the Silver Dragon King’s power, allowing him to contend with the descended deity 161.

Teleportation and Plant-Based Perception

Blue Silver Grass serves as both an information network and a means of movement 5 10 34.

  • Teleports through connections to Blue Silver Grass, including when transporting companions 10 61 85.
  • Receives warnings and information from plants, including notice that Bibi Dong is heading toward Tang San 34 36.
  • Can appear remotely through a grass-formed body that later disperses back into individual stalks 40 41.
  • Uses divine consciousness to observe Tang San across great distances and displays distant scenes through a water mirror 150 152.
  • Limitation: Bibi Dong can temporarily steal or seal his grass-based teleportation 10 36.

Oath of Protection and Life Dao Shield

His mutual oath with Ah Yin links their flesh, souls, lives, and fates across space 11 12.

  • Establishes a connection through which they communicate and sense one another’s condition 12 47.
  • Manifests a dragon-scale-like shield and automatically blocks a surprise attack 12 36.
  • Supplies protective scales to a divine dragon phantom formed from Blue Silver Imperial Emperor Grass 12.
  • Shared risk: Harm to Lan Changsheng can also endanger Ah Yin 11.

His later Life Dao Shield withstands Bibi Dong and Qian Daoliu’s combined divine weapons. He then converts its accumulated power into an attack that strips Bibi Dong’s Rakshasa power and breaks Qian Daoliu’s Angel God projection 147.

Soul Spirit Symbiosis Method

Lan Changsheng develops contracts through which deceased Soul Beasts can continue as Soul Spirits alongside human cultivators 95.

  • Preserves a Soul Beast’s soul in its Soul Bone and establishes a pact with a willing human partner 95.
  • Uses Symbiosis Towers and connected Subtowers to facilitate contracts, with Lan Yi assisting their operation 110 112.
  • Protects Soul Spirits’ freedom of choice through Symbiosis Laws and a binding Heavenly Dao Oath 120.
  • Consent requirement: A shortage of willing Soul Beasts initially limits the method’s expansion 95.
  • Structural weakness: Differences between humans and Soul Beasts—including lifespan and cultivation speed—require contractual balancing, creating a weakness Bibi Dong attempts to exploit 141.

Martial Insight

  • Demonstrates that Blue Silver Grass can support a power-attack cultivation path and teaches Tang San to condense offensive weapons 4 14 16.
  • Explains that tool Martial Souls possess spirits and can be understood as more than instruments for increasing strength 84.
  • Guides Chen Xin back toward his original purpose as a swordsman. His own decisive sword strike comes from observing a pine tree, despite never having practiced swordsmanship 75 76.

Divine and Mental Resistance

  • Divine Power protects his soul from Ghost Douluo’s soul-restraining chains 6.
  • The system states that the Two Extremes Stillness Domain cannot affect him because he has entered the divine path 3.
  • This protection is not absolute: Rakshasa-enhanced attacks can injure his Divine Soul and interfere with his abilities 10 162.

Equipment / Items

  • Origin Life Force stalks: Golden Blue Silver Grass containing his own vitality. He gives one to Tang Hao for healing and later leaves healing stalks with Dugu Bo 3 26.
  • Protective grass ring: Transforms a willing stalk of Blue Silver Grass into an inconspicuous ring so it can accompany Tang San and report danger 5.
  • Other Shore Flower seed: Retrieves it from the ruined formation beneath Black Wind Stronghold and calms it with Life Divine Power 99.
  • Soul-containing ore: Investigates a translucent black mineral capable of holding a ten-thousand-year Soul Beast’s complete Soul Power in a small fragment; its dense Yin Fiend Energy presents a complication 100.
