Background and History
Ah Yin’s Sacrifice
Tang Hao married Ah Yin, a transformed hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor, and fathered Tang San. After Ah Yin’s aura exposed her identity and drew Spirit Hall to them, she was forced to sacrifice herself. Tang Hao obtained her hundred-thousand-year soul ring and became renowned as the youngest Titled Douluo; he was also credited with killing Spirit Hall’s Pope 32 33 63 66.
His grief was complicated by guilt and loyalty to the Clear Sky Sect. He remembered briefly feeling happiness at obtaining Ah Yin’s soul ring before grief overtook him, and he resented the consequences their relationship had brought upon his sect. Although he knew the Blue Silver Forest could help her surviving seed grow, he avoided taking her there because he feared confronting what had happened. Whether he deliberately engineered her sacrifice remains unresolved 66.
Life in Holy Soul Village
During Tang San’s infancy, Tang Hao lived in Holy Soul Village and drank heavily. Xiong Jun found him dead drunk while the hungry Tang San cried himself to sleep, allowing Xiong Jun to copy the child’s memories. Xiong Jun considered Tang Hao easy to kill in that condition but left him alive because he saw no reason to do so 3 4.
Tang Hao later entrusted Tang San’s education to Yu Xiaogang. He paid little attention to the potential of his son’s Blue Silver Grass, intending for Tang San to cultivate it to Soul Saint before switching to the Clear Sky Hammer 66.
First Battle with Dai Mubai
While secretly watching Shrek Academy, Tang Hao noticed Zhao Wuji probing Xiao Wu’s identity. He beat Zhao Wuji to protect the transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast, whom he regarded as a future soul ring for Tang San. He then summoned Dai Mubai, intending both to address Tang San’s martial soul and to break Dai Mubai’s pride so that he would eventually serve his son 32 33.
The confrontation escalated when Dai Mubai resisted his pressure and revealed six unusually powerful soul rings. Already severely injured, Tang Hao struggled against the summoned Darkgolden Tiger King, then used his Martial Soul Avatar and Clear Sky Sect techniques to destroy it. Dai Mubai subsequently blocked his Great Sumeru Hammer and interrupted an attempted three-ring detonation 33 34 35 36.
Tang Hao threatened Shrek Academy when he could not secure a victory. He ultimately detonated seven rings, injuring Dai Mubai but failing to kill him. To end the battle, he surrendered a book of Clear Sky Sect techniques in exchange for Dai Mubai agreeing not to target Tang San. Neither swore a Martial Soul Oath, and both intended to renew the conflict later 36 37 38.
Recovery and Return to Shrek
Near death after the battle, Tang Hao sought help through the Strength Clan. Bai He supplied Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng, and Yang Wudi agreed to treat him in exchange for the unused portion. After recovering, Tang Hao tried to find the Breaking Clan, subdue Yang Wudi, and seize the remaining ginseng, but the clan had already relocated 62.
Dugu Bo followed Tang Hao after mistaking his interest for a threat to his medicinal garden. Their pursuit led toward Shrek Academy, where Tang Hao learned of Dugu Bo’s connection to Dai Mubai. Uncertain that he could defeat them together, he abandoned his immediate plan to subdue or kill Dai Mubai 62 63 65.
Tang Hao stalled Dugu Bo to give Xiao Wu time to hide. Finding no trace of her, he assumed she had escaped notice, unaware that Black Panther had already captured her 64 65.
Rupture with Yu Xiaogang
During their reunion, Tang San questioned Tang Hao about his martial souls and Yu Xiaogang’s concealment of information. Tang Hao confirmed that his second martial soul was the Clear Sky Hammer and denied instructing Yu Xiaogang to hide its identity 65 66.
Tang San then argued that Yu Xiaogang’s teachings had damaged his Blue Silver Grass’s potential, including a life-oriented path that might resurrect Ah Yin. Tang Hao seized upon that possibility and blamed Yu Xiaogang for destroying it. His attack left Yu Xiaogang dying; Yu Xiaogang later died in Liu Erlong’s arms 66 69 73.
When Flender intervened, Tang Hao defeated him with one hammer strike and threatened Zhao Wuji. Dai Mubai emerged from seclusion and met his hammer with a bare-handed punch, sending both combatants backward. Shocked by Dai Mubai’s growth and concerned for Tang San’s safety, Tang Hao took his son and fled 68 69.
Final Battle and Death
After taking Tang San somewhere safe, Tang Hao secretly doubled back to recover Xiao Wu. Instead, he encountered Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing as they traveled toward the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 70 73.
Both men saw an opportunity to eliminate the other. Tang Hao opened with simultaneous detonation of all nine soul rings, seeking to kill Dai Mubai before he could become an insurmountable threat to Tang San. Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing answered with their Martial Soul Fusion Skill, the Dark Gold Demon God Tiger 74.
The collision injured Tang Hao and broke the fusion apart. Before he could attack again, Dai Mubai used Sky-Rending Claw to tear his body apart while a spiritual attack annihilated his soul power. The destruction was stated to leave him beyond resurrection even by a deity. Tang San remained unaware of his death and continued waiting for him to return 74 75.
Appearance
- Worn clothing: During his first battle with Dai Mubai, Tang Hao wore tattered clothes that became stained and further shredded by the fighting, leaving him resembling a beggar 35.
- Soul rings: His manifested rings followed the sequence yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black, red. The final red ring emitted particularly oppressive pressure 33.
Personality
Tang Hao is proud of his title, strength, and martial soul. Challenges to his authority readily provoke him, and Dai Mubai repeatedly exploits his anger to draw him into increasingly dangerous exchanges. Nevertheless, he can retreat or negotiate when Tang San’s safety or the Clear Sky Sect’s survival is at stake 35 38 64 69.
His protectiveness toward Tang San includes attempts to control the people around him. He initially wants Dai Mubai subdued into serving his son, then decides such an uncontrollable talent must die. He likewise protects Xiao Wu while treating her as a resource belonging to the Tang family, rather than simply as Tang San’s companion 32 33 34 70.
His love for Ah Yin coexists with guilt, resentment, and avoidance. The possibility of resurrecting her offers him a way to resolve those feelings, but learning that the opportunity may have been lost sends him into a murderous rage against Yu Xiaogang 66.
Abilities and Skills
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Hao wields the Clear Sky Hammer through direct attacks, his Martial Soul Avatar, and inherited Clear Sky Sect techniques 34 35.
- Martial Soul Avatar: His seventh soul skill strengthens the hammer for major attacks 34.
- Clear Sky Secret Technique, Aerial Strike: Used alongside his avatar to destroy Dai Mubai’s summoned Darkgolden Tiger King 34.
- Great Sumeru Hammer: A Clear Sky Sect ultimate technique that Dai Mubai blocked despite having only six soul rings 35.
- Overwhelming force: Defeated Flender, a Soul Saint using his avatar, with a single strike after recovering from his injuries 68.
Ring Detonation
Ring Detonation releases tremendous power from Tang Hao’s soul rings, remaining dangerous even when his available soul power is low 37.
- His attempted three-ring detonation was interrupted by Tiger King’s Roar 35 36.
- A seven-ring detonation destroyed the summoned Darkgolden Tiger King and injured Dai Mubai 37.
- His final nine-ring detonation produced a strike comparable to a rank-98 Titled Douluo’s attack. This was an attack-power comparison, not his confirmed cultivation rank 74.
- Activation is vulnerable to disruption: a direct spiritual blow to his Sea of Consciousness stunned him and stopped the technique 36.
Divine Slaughter’s Domain
Tang Hao possesses a true domain capable of suppressing opponents and carrying destructive force into their bodies and souls 36 37.
- Dispersed Dai Mubai’s Inverted Gravity Domain, a domain-type soul skill 36.
- Combined with his will and hammer strike as he approached unity of essence, energy, and spirit 37.
- Later compressed into his Clear Sky Hammer for close combat 69.
Spiritual Power and Combat Instinct
- Spiritual communication and detection: Transmitted his voice directly into others’ minds and scanned Shrek Academy for Xiao Wu’s aura 32 65.
- Instinctive evasion: Avoided a fatal strike to his heart, taking a shoulder wound instead 36.
- Concealment: His hiding methods were notable but insufficient against Dai Mubai’s strengthened spiritual perception 74.
- Battlefield control: Sealed the surroundings before his final attack, preventing Dai Mubai from immediately escaping the nine-ring detonation 75.
