Even though she had lived for decades, survived from one era into another, and weathered plenty of storms...
Bai Yuekui was undoubtedly shocked at the sight of the huge mass of humans tossed up to her, bundled like dumplings in black webbing.
Hadn't it only been a few minutes?
He had actually taken down an entire fully armed combat squad without making a sound! Even Ertong couldn't manage that while invisible!
"Here~ They're all yours! I'm off to make another killing! Hahahahahaha~~~"
Laughing loudly, Lu Wen dumped the Vulture Squad members there and vanished back into the shadows with a whoosh.
He swore! This was the happiest day he had had since transmigrating!
Watching the points in his points display multiply, he was almost grinning like Belial!
Under the desolate night sky, only Bai Yuekui and her four companions remained, facing a huge ball of black silk, utterly at a loss in the wind~
"Boss, how are we supposed to get all these people back?" Suixing came to her senses and asked Bai Yuekui, looking thoroughly troubled.
Getting more people was a good thing, but getting them back to the village was a problem!
The vehicle they had driven here couldn't fit this many people! Were they supposed to drag them back like this? Wouldn't they get rattled to pieces...
Bai Yuekui checked the Vulture Squad members' condition~ They were securely bound and wouldn't wake up anytime soon. It was relatively safe here, so they could stay like this~
"Leave them here for now. We'll figure it out later, once everything's finished."
With that, she took the lead in jumping down one floor from the rooftop and continued waiting and watching Mark's movements.
As for Lu Wen...
She could no longer find him.
"Hehe... hehahaha... ahahahaha!!!!" Lu Wen darted through the shadows, letting out eerie, bizarre laughter...
Two golden blades of light crisscrossed and wheeled through the black blur, weaving a blazing golden net.
Countless Spine Beasts were sliced to pieces in the blink of an eye. Scarlet mist surged out of their shattered insect bodies, gathering into a thick layer of red fog in the corridor in an instant!
Even a trace of this stuff would confuse an ordinary person's mind and cause hallucinations! But it had no effect on Lu Wen whatsoever!
Venom completely blocked out this neurotoxin. The Symbiote Suit's density was far beyond what the Crimson Substance could penetrate. The scarlet mist churned and struck his body, unable to seep even into the surface.
As for that lunatic laughter... that was purely Lu Wen getting excited at the sight of points all over the floor.
This roomful of Spine Beasts would net him several thousand points if he killed them all, even at just 10 points apiece! That was more than any single mission had paid him the last few times! How could he not be excited!
But he had already searched several floors and hadn't seen a single Snake Dog. Apart from Spine Beasts, there were only Sting Eels, Xi Rang covering the floor, and flower buds from the Calyx Beast's symbiotic ecology.
A bit of a shame, but no big deal! He just had to stay in this world a little longer.
But... things weren't looking so good for the Mana Ecology~
In the years since the Mana Ecology had completely taken over the surface, the ecosystem entrenched here had certainly encountered living humans. The flesh-soil balls in the Calyx Beast's nest were proof enough.
But in the past, no matter how fiercely those fragile humans resisted, their only fate was to have their life essence sucked dry!
Yet today... the information coming back through the ecological network was inconceivable!
The hard bones they had evolved were as brittle as dried flesh-soil before that black figure, and the Crimson Substance they depended on for survival was nothing but decoration! Every means at their disposal was as powerless as a human.
Lu Wen knew nothing of the Mana Ecology's thoughts. After dealing with the Spine Beasts in this area, he cut open the floor and continued exploring downward.
Earning points wasn't the only thing he had come here to do! The mission Bai Yuekui had posted was to find the raw materials and data for Miracle K.
That was very important!
At first, when he came across this order, he hadn't thought of farming points from the Devourer Beasts! Instead, he had thought of another very important issue.
Ever since injecting Compound V, he had always had a feeling! It seemed that his upper limit for growth had been locked!
The V1 provided by the system was like welding his genes into a fixed template. A fixed numerical ceiling had been written into every cell upon injection.
He had gained strength, but his path to growth had also been blocked! To break through, he needed to find something capable of rewriting the underlying code.
That was also why he hadn't dared inject Tony's modified Extremis Virus. He was afraid that even if he injected it, he wouldn't get the enhancement he wanted.
Venom could enhance him because he had absorbed Lu Wen's genetic template, which, combined with the characteristics of a Symbiote, allowed him to raise Lu Wen's stats while bonded to him.
When he came across this order, he immediately thought of this world's specialties: Angel Serum and Miracle K.
Angel Serum enabled nerve cell regeneration and cross-body connections, anchoring consciousness to life essence.
Miracle K activated human cells' potential for unlimited division, unlocking human potential by accelerating cell division and breaking through the natural limitations of telomeres and gene expression.
Miracle K plus Angel Serum modification equaled a permanent foundational upgrade, directly replacing the underlying base with one that had a higher ceiling. In theory, it could break through the locked ceiling he sensed.
So his main purpose in coming here was to trade Compound V to Boss Bai for Angel Serum and Miracle K!
As for these points~ They were an entirely unexpected bonus!
"This place is huge. Where on earth is it? Don't tell me there's none here!"
Lu Wen scratched his head. This was already the... he had forgotten how many chambers he had kicked open, but none had contained the slightest trace of anything related to Miracle K.
He had killed plenty of Spine Beasts and Sting Eels, though. By his rough estimate, he must have earned tens of thousands of points in this short time alone.
He had been too weak before. With high-paying missions, he either hadn't dared accept them or had feared walking into a trap. Now things were great! He had found an easy target!!!
The more he thought about it, the more excited he got!
He kicked open the door of another records room. This time, apart from toppled cabinets, there were no Devourer Beasts inside.
The room wasn't large. The heavy safe at the very back looked as though Xi Rang had enveloped it and then receded, leaving behind a dried, dark-brown gelatinous shell.
He split the safe door open with a blade of light, sending dust and debris spilling all over the floor!
The safe was as tall as a person, but held very little! On the three shelves at the very back sat several rows of yellowed folders and five vacuum-sealed containers the size of shoeboxes.
Through the transparent windows on the containers, he could see rows of sealed tubes. The liquid inside the tubes was dark red, but their seals were intact!
He had seen these at Tony's place. These vacuum tubes were sealed tightly enough that, as long as they weren't physically damaged, their contents could last a long time.
He picked up one of the sealed containers and examined it. A label affixed to its surface bore blurred but still legible writing: [K-07 Raw Material Sample · Batch 3 · Concentrate].
He picked up a folder and examined it as well. Although its cover had yellowed somewhat, the pages inside were better preserved than expected! The title on the top page read [Project K · Raw Material Preparation Records · Complete Version].
The following pages contained experiment dates, formulation parameters, cell activity data, and several pages of handwritten notes. The writing was clear, without the slightest sign of damage.
He opened the first page and read two lines before confirming that this was the complete preparation procedure for Miracle K, with records covering everything from raw material extraction to activity activation.
He put the sealed containers and all the documents into the System Space, then checked the room's remaining corners while he was at it. Only after confirming there was nothing else did he leave.
He had what Boss Bai wanted. Now he could go do something else!
