History
Founding Clan and Growing Isolation
The Uchiha jointly founded Konoha with the Senju, but their relationship with the village deteriorated over generations. Setsuna’s attempt to seize power during the Second Hokage’s reign failed; he survived and was placed under house arrest within the compound. Increasing dissatisfaction later strengthened his position as grand elder and leader of the radicals 18 21.
The clan’s exclusive responsibility for the Military Police Force brought authority but also public resentment. Setsuna argued that the arrangement deliberately made the Uchiha the face of unpopular law enforcement. Fugaku, the force’s captain, acknowledged its damaging effect on relations with villagers 18.
The Nine-Tails incident intensified this hostility. Villagers had seen Sharingan in the beast’s eyes and widely blamed the Uchiha leadership. The clan’s relocation to Konoha’s outskirts reinforced those suspicions 39.
Leadership Change and the Failed Massacre
By Konoha Year 56, Fugaku and the elders were preparing a coup. Even elders who had favored reconciliation joined the plan as relations with the village worsened 1 2.
Feng Yao interrupted their deliberations, revealed his Mangekyō Sharingan, and warned that Itachi intended to help the Third Hokage destroy the clan. At Setsuna’s proposal, the elders replaced Fugaku with Feng Yao. The new leader ordered defensive preparations and required Fugaku to confront Itachi 2.
Instead of finding unprepared victims, Itachi encountered Fugaku, Setsuna, and assembled Sharingan users. Elsewhere, clan fighters delayed Obito until Feng Yao intervened and seized his right-eye Mangekyō. Obito escaped with Black Zetsu’s help, while Feng Yao ordered the defenders to protect their clansmen rather than pursue him 3 4.
Feng Yao spared Itachi after using Izanami to make him confront his actions. Itachi accepted punishment, but his survival did not immediately erase the clan’s resentment 6 12.
Confrontation with Konoha
Danzō subsequently led Root and Anbu against the compound, accusing the Uchiha of rebellion and abducting the Nine-Tails jinchūriki. Feng Yao used a controlled, transformed Naruto against the attackers. The Uchiha suffered few injuries and virtually no fatalities in this clash, while the attacking force sustained heavy losses 7 8.
The exposure of Sharingan implanted in Danzō’s arm outraged both the Uchiha and other bloodline clans. Facing a united clan and Feng Yao’s demands, Hiruzen agreed to return the stolen eyes. Kakashi also surrendered Obito’s Sharingan to Fugaku 8 9 10.
Hiruzen ordered Danzō to take his own life, and negotiations followed. Danzō secretly survived, however, retaining control of Root while being barred from public life 10 11.
Preparing to Leave
Feng Yao rejected both continued accommodation with Konoha and the burden of founding an independent village. Protecting thousands of clansmen made Amegakure a more practical destination 11 12.
He also persuaded the elders to relinquish the Military Police Force’s authority in exchange for resources and assets needed for relocation. Once the force’s role in the clan’s isolation was discussed openly, the elders unanimously supported the proposal 18.
Meanwhile, the village leadership approved another attack involving hired outside forces. When Akatsuki entered the compound, Setsuna and Fugaku had already prepared an ambush 29 32.
Departure and Resettlement
During the renewed fighting, Feng Yao reached an understanding with Nagato. When Hiruzen and Danzō committed their forces, the Uchiha and Akatsuki turned on the Konoha attackers together. Fugaku and Orochimaru jointly engaged Jiraiya, Itachi fought Hiruzen, and Setsuna drove Danzō into retreat 35 36.
Feng Yao rejected Hiruzen’s offer of a future Uchiha Hokage. After demonstrating Perfect Susanoo’s destructive power, he formally announced the clan’s departure and led its members away from their ruined compound 36 38.
Konan welcomed the Uchiha into Amegakure and assigned them a compound in the village center. The enthusiastic reception contrasted sharply with their treatment in Konoha and gave the displaced clan an immediate sense of belonging 40.
Organization and Members
| Member / Group | Position and Significance |
|---|---|
| Uchiha Fengyao | Current clan head and strongest fighter. Sets the relocation strategy while delegating negotiations and routine administration to the elders 2 18 43. |
| Uchiha Fugaku | Former clan head and Military Police captain; subsequently an elder. Remains a major combatant and helps organize the compound’s defense 17 18 32 35. |
| Uchiha Setsuna | Grand elder and radical leader. Supports Feng Yao’s succession, handles negotiations, and helps administer the resettled clan 2 10 18 43. |
| Uchiha Yashiro | A leading radical entrusted with placing the clan on guard before the massacre attempt 2. |
| Uchiha Itachi | Initially an intended executioner of the clan; later spared and given an opportunity to atone. Returns to defend the Uchiha, although full reintegration remains unfinished 3 12 32 43. |
| Uchiha Sasuke | Fugaku’s younger son. Awakens the One-Tomoe Sharingan and seeks training from Feng Yao 12 22. |
| Uchiha Shisui | Deceased prodigy and former major Konoha combatant. His recovered Mangekyō and Kotoamatsukami become important assets under Feng Yao 9 10 17 30. |
| Uchiha Izumi | Clan member and Feng Yao’s childhood sweetheart; quietly supports him during the survival crisis 44. |
| Uchiha Shin | Recruited and given the Uchiha name by Feng Yao despite lacking Uchiha blood. His unusual constitution can accept transplanted kekkei genkai without rejection 31. |
Political Divisions
- Radicals: Led by Setsuna, with Yashiro among their prominent members; sought a coup as a response to the village’s suppression 2 18.
- Moderates and doves: Favored reconciliation, but increasingly joined the coup faction as relations deteriorated 2.
- Village-aligned members: Kagami, Shisui, and Itachi are identified as Uchiha who had been close to Konoha 18.
- Unification under Feng Yao: His defense of the clan and refusal to surrender its Sharingan win broad support, replacing the earlier divisions with near-total unity during the confrontation with Hiruzen 8 9.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The clan’s defining kekkei genkai supports genjutsu, copying, and reconnaissance 40.
- Three-Tomoe users are described as possessing at least jōnin-level strength 40.
- Jūzō recalls that confronting one Three-Tomoe Uchiha jōnin during the Third Shinobi World War required at least two jōnin 32.
- Strong emotions can trigger advancement, as demonstrated by the awakenings following the exposure of Danzō’s implanted eyes 8.
- Uchiha blood allows users to deactivate the eye; Kakashi’s transplanted Sharingan instead remained active and continually drained his chakra 20.
Mangekyō Sharingan and Susanoo
The clan’s elite wielders possess individualized ocular techniques and can manifest Susanoo 3 17.
- Feng Yao: Double Kamui provides space-time transportation and access to an alternate dimension; his Eternal Mangekyō supports Perfect Susanoo 11 38.
- Fugaku: Possesses Amaterasu and a version of Tsukuyomi that simulates a stretch of the future using existing information 17.
- Itachi: Uses Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, and Susanoo 3 33.
- Shisui: Kotoamatsukami can rewrite another person’s will 17.
- Limitations: Ordinary Mangekyō use depletes ocular power and risks blindness. Feng Yao explains the restorative potential of Hashirama and White Zetsu cells, but the passages do not establish clan-wide treatment 17 35.
Fire Release and Armed Combat
Fire techniques, blades, and coordinated formations form a substantial part of the clan’s conventional fighting style 3 4 36.
- Clan fighters combine fireballs, shuriken, and sword attacks during the ambushes against Itachi and Obito 3 4.
- Uchiha forces use Great Fireball Technique and Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson against Konoha’s attacking force 36.
- Setsuna uses Great Fire Annihilation against Danzō 36.
- Feng Yao’s recorded skills include Uchiha Style Swordsmanship, Phoenix Flower Jutsu, crow summoning, and crow clones 1 11.
Assets and Identifying Features
- Clan emblem: The fan on members’ backs allows Amegakure shinobi to identify the arriving group immediately 40.
- Distinctive clothing: Feng Yao wears the clan’s long, dark-blue robe 1 13.
- Recovered Sharingan: The clan secures Shisui’s Mangekyō from Danzō and Obito’s transplanted eye from Kakashi 9 10.

- Kamui relocation route: Feng Yao transports clan members through his dimension into Amegakure 40.
- New compound: Located in central Amegakure as an explicit gesture of welcome 40.
