After watching Kakashi's graduation exam and leaving the academy straight away, Uchiha Gen walked along Konoha's streets, looking at the roadside vendors and the crowds coming and going.
Well, one thing that hadn't changed was these obnoxious Konoha villagers with their conqueror's will.
As if they had no brains, they dared to bad-mouth anyone, no matter their status. When they got worked up, they would even throw stones and such.
He walked on in silence.
The Uchiha Clan Compound, inside Uchiha Gen's home.
Uchiha Gen pushed open the door. Not a glimmer of light showed in the empty house. He turned on the lights and went straight into the bathroom to shower.
From the time Uchiha Gen had fully grasped his memories, he had been alone, raised by the elderly people at the clan's designated orphanage exclusively for Uchiha children. As for his parents...
They had supposedly died together on a mission. Uchiha Gen felt nothing about that.
At least they had left him a house where he could apply to live independently once he reached school age.
Being an orphan was perfectly normal in this Shinobi World. After all, even four people could barely scrape together one pair of parents. Wasn't that right, Team 7?
After showering, Uchiha Gen sat cross-legged on his bed. Recalling the fight between Kakashi and the ninja examiner, he couldn't help smiling.
This Shinobi World really wasn't quite normal, but fortunately...
Check in.
[Ding! Congratulations on obtaining a small amount of Eye Power.]
Eye Power again. Better than nothing, I suppose. At least it isn't useless stuff like cola or instant noodles.
Uchiha Gen was accustomed to the electronic sound effect in his ears and the faint coolness spreading through his eyes.
The Check-In System was the cheat Uchiha Gen had awakened that same year, when he had recovered his memories just after turning three. It didn't do much; he could simply check in at six every evening and receive something.
The things he received from checking in could increase his chakra or Eye Power, or they could be some sort of item. They could also be some sort of ability. As for what Uchiha Gen had obtained over these two years...
Open panel.
Uchiha Gen raised his hand and silently recited the command. A transparent status panel that only he could see unfolded.
[Benefactor: Uchiha Gen] [Sex: male] [Age: 5] [Identity: young child of Konoha's Uchiha Clan] [Potential: currently unknown] [Special talent: One-Tomoe Sharingan] [Abilities: Armament Haki, Seventh Sense-Fire Manipulation Technique.] [Items: Demon Blade Thousand Blades, Immortal Totem, cola ×43, Master Kong Old Jar Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodles ×113, Sprite ×1, various other items.]
"Looking at it this way, I'm actually pretty underhanded myself."
Early the next morning, when the first ray of sunlight fell on the windows of Uchiha Gen's home, he had already washed up and been out for quite a while.
As for why he had left so early...
The bell had already rung, and Sarutobi Ichino, Class A's teacher, had begun taking attendance.
Just then, however, a boy wearing goggles and blue clothes bearing the Uchiha Clan crest pushed open the classroom door and stood in the doorway, panting heavily.
"Phew... Sorry! Mr. Ichino, I'm late!"
The newcomer was none other than Obito Uchiha, who would one day want to create a world with Rin in it.
Faced with the boy in the doorway, Sarutobi Ichino's expression remained unchanged. He merely rubbed his forehead.
"Go on, then. What's your reason for being late today?"
Having grown thoroughly accustomed to Obito Uchiha's lateness, Sarutobi Ichino had plenty of patience for him.
After all, without patience, dealing with a problem child like this could easily make someone sick with anger.
"I... I ran into an old lady on my way to school today. She was having such a hard time carrying a big bundle that I helped take it back to her house, so... so I was late."
At his words, Obito Uchiha scratched his head awkwardly before speaking.
"Hmm, this is the twenty-eighth time you've used helping someone deliver something as your excuse. Not bad. At least it wasn't that bizarre excuse about a black cat blocking your path that you've used nearly a hundred times. Go sit down."
Sarutobi Ichino nodded lightly at his words. Rather than being overly harsh on Obito Uchiha, he calmly pointed toward the desks, motioning for him to return to his seat.
If a student was late for the first time, their teacher might get angry and tell them not to do it again. But if a student kept being late, every single time for some strange reason that was nevertheless a genuine occurrence...
Then the teacher would start wondering whether there was something uncanny about that person.
After all, the Uchiha Clan really was quite uncanny.
"Yes, sir!"
As though he had been granted a pardon, Obito Uchiha immediately hurried into the classroom, then plopped down beside Uchiha Gen.
"Why didn't you call me to go with you this morning again? You just left on your own instead."
The moment Obito Uchiha sat back down, a quiet voice reached Uchiha Gen's ears.
Bored, Uchiha Gen had started drawing a mouse out of 7 + 2 in his workbook. At those words, his pen stopped against the page, and he raised his eyes to look at Obito Uchiha with an even gaze.
"Because I didn't want to be late with you."
As members of the same clan and the same class, Uchiha Gen and Obito Uchiha naturally knew each other. But although they knew each other, Uchiha Gen didn't want much contact with Obito Uchiha. It wasn't because he was worried about Madara Uchiha lurking in the shadows; he simply found Obito Uchiha really annoying.
But there was no getting around how excessively familiar Obito Uchiha acted with people.
As for why Obito Uchiha had asked why he hadn't called him to go to school together, their houses were less than ten meters apart.
"That was all... Ow!"
"Obito Uchiha!!"
Before Obito Uchiha could continue, a roar rang out, and a piece of chalk struck his forehead with a thunk as he leaned over his desk, his head lowered to whisper to Uchiha Gen.
The pain in his forehead made Obito Uchiha jerk his head up, meeting the furious Sarutobi Ichino's eyes in a moment of "affectionate eye contact."
"Sorry, Mr. Ichino! I'll shut up right now."
Realizing he had been caught slacking off, Obito Uchiha immediately bowed and apologized loudly. With that, the entire classroom fell quiet again.
Looking at Obito Uchiha's expression of "I really will behave now," Uchiha Gen couldn't help wondering what changes this wielder of [Kamui] would undergo in a Shinobi World like this.
Before you continue
