| Latent Kamui manifestation | 3 | His thrown shuriken become intangible as they pass through a wooden target. Gen recognizes the phenomenon as Kamui, but Obito believes he is simply missing. |
| Genin | 19 | Assigned to Minato Namikaze’s team alongside Rin; Kakashi is revealed to be their existing third teammate. |
| Two-Tomoe Sharingan | 134 | An older Obito acting as “Uchiha Ganghuo” pours ocular power into his eyes, causing their displayed Mangekyō pattern to fade into two tomoe. Young Obito later treats this as his awakened Sharingan 180. |
| Three-Tomoe Sharingan | 197 | His two-tomoe eyes develop a third tomoe during his mindscape conversation with Six Paths Obito, as he confronts the revelation of Rin’s death in that counterpart’s history. |
| Mangekyō Sharingan | 197 | Awakens immediately afterward. His Kamui establishes an anchor connected to the other timelines, which Madara recognizes as a crucial step in his plan. |
| Ten-Tails sealing ritual | 198 | Accepts his alternate self’s power through Kamui and performs the Six Paths-Ten-Tails Coffin Seal. The incoming chakra transforms his body while the Ten-Tails attacks his consciousness. |
| Incomplete Ten-Tails jinchūriki | 199 | Preserves his identity with his counterpart’s genjutsu assistance, but initially fluctuates between self-control and the Ten-Tails’ ferocity. His robe and Truth-Seeking Orb formation remain incomplete. |

| Six Paths-Baryon Mode | 201 | Burns the Ten-Tails as fuel for a brief increase in power and speed. His body rapidly deteriorates, and Madara forcibly ends the transformation. |
History
Academy and Team Minato
Obito attends Class A at Konoha’s Ninja Academy under Sarutobi Ichino. He lives less than ten meters from Uchiha Gen and sits beside him in class. His habitual lateness includes genuine incidents such as helping an elderly woman carry a bundle home, although his repeated explanations have exhausted his teacher’s surprise 2.
Despite his poor reputation, Obito already possesses substantial technical skill. During a practical match, he uses Fire Release, Substitution, and one-handed seals against Might Guy. Guy wins, but Ichino awards Obito 76 points to Guy’s 60, praising Obito’s ninjutsu while criticizing the boasting that wastes his tactical opening 6 7.
Rin fills out his graduation application after he forgets to submit it. Following graduation, he joins Minato’s team with Rin and Kakashi. His initial excitement at possibly forming a two-person team with Rin is quickly dashed when Minato explains that they already have another teammate 17 19.
Team 7 initially fails Minato’s assessment mission. Obito subsequently participates in an ambush against a Sunagakure squad and operations against Iwagakure infiltrators in the Land of Grass. Although he frequently argues with Kakashi, he immediately prepares to help when Kakashi appears surrounded in battle 28 46 69.
Encounters with Other Selves
While serving alongside Gen and Uchiha Ganghuo, Obito develops Substitution Reversal, using it to reposition fire dragons around Hozuki Shitsu. He remains envious of his clansmen’s Sharingan and Susanoo Armor, repeatedly insisting that awakening his own eyes will make him equally formidable 88 89.
During the Arakuro incident, an older self borrows Obito’s body. This presence displays an unnaturally calm demeanor, activates Mangekyō Sharingan, places a Transcription Seal in Ganghuo’s eyes, and enters the Kamui World. He captures Arakuro and destroys a White Zetsu spy near Rin. Young Obito later awakens with depleted chakra, damaged pathways, severe eye pain, and temporary loss of control over his legs; Tsunade expects him to recover in a little over a week 105 106 107.
The story distinguishes several versions of Obito:
| Version | Documented role |
|---|---|
| Young Obito of the current world | Identified by Six Paths Obito as the new “origin” after the original Obito and original world perished 197. |
| Older self borrowing his body | Uses advanced Kamui during the Arakuro incident. Later, an older Obito acting as “Uchiha Ganghuo” alters young Obito’s eyes and rescues his companions 105 106 134. |
| Six Paths Obito | An adult Ten-Tails jinchūriki from another timeline. Shelters his soul within Rin while keeping his body in the Kamui Dimension; later transfers his power to young Obito 125 197 198. |
Six Paths Obito regards another Obito present in this world as possessing power beyond the Six Paths level. His own resemblance to the younger Obito therefore does not make the two adult manifestations interchangeable 125.
Rōran Mission
During the journey toward Rōran, Obito’s squad encounters Sasori and the Third Kazekage Puppet. Ganghuo and Chōza Akimichi attempt to protect the others from the puppet’s iron sand. An older Obito acting as “Uchiha Ganghuo” subsequently intervenes, erases Sarutobi Shinnosuke’s memories, reduces young Obito’s displayed Mangekyō to a Two-Tomoe Sharingan, and saves Chōza with Kamui 132 133 134.
Obito later searches for Mukade in Rōran while Tobirama Senju and Uchiha Izuna observe him through an alternate-dimensional barrier and work on a time-travel machine 150.
Kirigakure Front and Madara
At the Kirigakure front, Obito proudly shows Kakashi his Two-Tomoe Sharingan, only to discover that Kakashi has already become a jōnin. His desire to prove himself carries into a dangerous mission with Kakashi and Rin 180 190 191.
Five Kirigakure ANBU trap the trio inside a shrinking water prison. After Kakashi opens a small breach, Obito throws a kunai outside and swaps all three teammates with it. Their counterattack combines Kakashi’s swordsmanship, Rin’s black rods, and Obito’s Fire Release to defeat the attackers 193 195.
Madara then appears, incapacitates Obito, and critically wounds Kakashi. Within Obito’s mindscape, Six Paths Obito reveals his identity and explains that Madara is targeting Obito’s eyes. The revelation of his counterpart’s loss of Rin triggers young Obito’s progression from two tomoe to Mangekyō Sharingan 196 197.
Obito accepts the Ten-Tails to protect his teammates. After mastering its power, he moves Rin and Kakashi into Kamui and confronts Madara. Nevertheless, Madara counters his intangibility, repeatedly inflicts fatal wounds that force him to use Izanagi, and defeats even his Six Paths-Baryon Mode 198 199 200 201.
Hatake Sakumo cuts through Madara’s Naruson Domain and takes over the fight. With help finally present, Obito breaks down in tears, admitting how frightened he was that his death would also doom Rin and Kakashi 202.
Aftermath
Obito restores himself with Yin-Yang Release but initially cannot leave his Ten-Tails form. He explains that the beast’s assimilative power prevents him from returning to his former appearance, even though he can control it with his Mangekyō Sharingan. Sakumo suggests that Gen may be able to help 203 206.
He later undergoes a period described by Gen as “shedding his skin.” By Gen’s inauguration as Hokage, Obito has lost his pallid appearance, though he retains some jinchūriki traits because the Ten-Tails has not been extracted. He remains openly jealous of Gen attaining the office he has long wanted 225 238.
Appearance
- Academy attire: Goggles and blue clothing bearing the Uchiha Clan crest 2.
- Replacement goggles: Receives a newer pair from Uchiha Ganghuo, whom he addresses as Kōka 94 105.
- Mangekyō pattern: Three sharp, curved hooks interweave into a twisted pinwheel against scarlet irises 197.
- Incomplete jinchūriki form: Gray-white skin, black hair, five black scales on his back, scattered tomoe markings, an incomplete Six Paths robe, and disordered Truth-Seeking Orbs 199.
- Complete Six Paths form: White hair, a hornlike forehead protector, a complete white robe, two black scales at the shoulders and three on the back, and an orderly ring of Truth-Seeking Orbs. Both eyes remain Mangekyō Sharingan rather than adopting his counterpart’s Rinnegan–Mangekyō combination 199.
- Later condition: His pallor disappears, but some Ten-Tails jinchūriki features remain 238.
Personality
Obito is outgoing, boastful, easily embarrassed, and quick to take offense. He defends Gen when Asuma insults the Uchiha, yet readily turns classroom disputes into threatened fights. His confidence repeatedly outruns his judgment: he boasts during an opening against Guy and later interprets a suspiciously accessible enemy passage as good fortune 4 6 7 192.
His affection for Rin shapes both his everyday behavior and his most consequential decisions. He fantasizes about their future, tries to kiss her image in a team photograph, and eagerly anticipates impressing her with his Sharingan. Rin interprets his displays before Kakashi more generously—as his way of saying he can finally help protect them both 19 38 180.
Obito’s courage does not depend on an absence of fear. Against Madara, he openly acknowledges his weakness and terror but continues fighting because Rin and Kakashi are inside his Kamui World. Afterward, he briefly worries that his transformed appearance has ruined his prospects with Rin, then decides that her safety matters more than what he has become 200 201 202 206.
Abilities & Skills
Kamui and Space-Time Ninjutsu
Kamui manifests unconsciously during Obito’s Academy years, long before his conscious Mangekyō awakening 3.
- Intangibility: His early shuriken phase through a target; his later Six Paths form can render his own body intangible 3 200.
- Dimensional transport: Moves Rin and Kakashi into the Kamui Dimension to protect them from Madara 199.
- Attack positioning: Places six Truth-Seeking Orbs directly at Madara’s chest before detonating them 199.
- Timeline connection: His awakened Kamui forms an anchor to other timelines and allows him to absorb Six Paths Obito’s power 197 198.
- Limit: Madara’s space-time technique can counter his intangibility 200.
Substitution and Substitution Reversal
Obito learns the Substitution Technique in only a day or two. In this world, it requires prior knowledge of Summoning and functions as pseudo-space-time ninjutsu 6.
- Evasion: Replaces himself with a log against Guy, although he wastes the resulting opening by boasting 6 7.
- Substitution Reversal: His self-developed variation swaps fire dragons with thrown kunai, surrounding a moving target 88.
- Group escape: Swaps himself, Kakashi, and Rin with a kunai outside a water prison 193 195.
Fire Release
Obito uses several offensive Fire Release techniques, including complex attacks while forming seals with one hand 6 7 88.
| Technique | Application |
|---|---|
| Great Fireball Technique | Large projectile attack; later drives back Kirigakure ANBU jōnin 6 193. |
| Flame Stream Song | Produces slender fire snakes that approach vital points from multiple angles 6. |
| Great Flame Dragon Fire Technique | Creates two fire dragons, which he combines with Substitution Reversal 88. |
| Majestic Destroyer Flame | Sustained, broad torrent of fire. Fails to breach the combined ANBU water prison and instead heats its interior dangerously 193. |
| Fire Release Chakra Mode | Envelops his body in flames for close combat. Its Yin Release-infused fire causes severe pain to enemies who approach 193. |
Susanoo Armor
Obito wears Susanoo Armor during the Kirigakure ANBU battle, substantially enhancing his close-combat performance when combined with Fire Release Chakra Mode 193.
- Helps him pressure jōnin despite his lower confirmed official rank 193.
- Does not overcome the five ANBU’s coordinated water prison by itself 193.
Ten-Tails and Yin-Yang Release
Obito receives the Ten-Tails from his alternate self and seals it inside himself using the Six Paths-Ten-Tails Coffin Seal 198.
- Control: Initially relies on his counterpart’s prepared genjutsu to preserve his identity; fully suppresses the beast after hearing Rin call to him 199.
- Truth-Seeking Orbs: Uses them as explosive projectiles, defensive formations, and shaped weapons 199 200 201.
- Recovery: Rapidly restores his injured body with Yin-Yang Release after Sakumo intervenes 203.
- Assimilation: The Ten-Tails alters his appearance and initially prevents him from leaving his transformed state 206.
Izanagi
Obito uses Izanagi to rewrite fatal outcomes during his fight with Madara 200.
- Reverses being cleaved apart, restoring his body and undoing the unfavorable event 200.
- Consumes vast amounts of ocular power; repeated use rapidly drains him 200.
Six Paths Weapon Techniques
Obito shapes Yin-Yang Release and Truth-Seeking Orbs into weapons 199 200.
- Six Paths Staff: Created upon completing his jinchūriki transformation; also used to project a defensive barrier 199 200.
- Six Paths Rasenshuriken: An improvised attack made by compressing and spinning Truth-Seeking Orbs into layered blades, modeled on Minato’s Rasenshuriken 200.
- Amenonuhoko: Forms after his broken staff reshapes into a black spear, which he wields against Madara 200.
- Limit: Madara shatters both his Rasenshuriken and staff, overpowering their Yin-Yang Release 200.
Six Paths-Baryon Mode
Obito burns the Ten-Tails itself as fuel for a temporary increase in combat power 201.
- Raises his speed enough to tear fine fissures through space during movement 201.
- Reshapes his Truth-Seeking Orbs into ten willow-leaf-shaped black blades 201.
- Briefly allows a more direct exchange with Madara, who still counters him with little effort 201.
- Causes bleeding, destruction of his Six Paths robe, and rapid chakra deterioration 201.
Equipment & Items
