Power Progression
The Great Being is already a Paradox Level existence in ancient history. Its documented progression concerns its interrupted resurrection and returning capabilities, rather than advancement through ordinary Transcendent ranks 466 503 606.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete resurrection | 466 | Stuck halfway through revival, with almost no reason remaining. Its instinctive reactions allow the Crawlers to steal its power. |
| Returning intelligence | 598 606 | As revival approaches, it begins manipulating perceptions and using Space-Time Power to revise unfavorable histories. |
| Descent through the World Tree | 615 616 619 | Projects a Time Barrier across the Nether River and rewrites recent events to protect its descent route. Damage to the passage forces it to interrupt the rewriting. |

| Awakening confirmed | 637 | Its awakening causes Lilia to fall into eternal slumber. Recovering its half of the Nirvana Crown would require defeating it completely. |
Background / History
Devouring Worlds and the Cataclysm
A historical reconstruction shows the Great Being as a gray mass consuming successive stars, each representing a world. Its advance is finally checked in the world that becomes the Chaos Sea, where the Heavenly Venerable resists it 493.
The Great Being’s conflict with the Heavenly Venerable lies at the end of the Primordial Era. The Heavenly Venerable falls, leaving the Headless Corpse that becomes the foundation of the Game System. The Great Being also suffers a devastating setback before returning toward life 427 493 577.
The Second Lord later raises the possibility that the Great Being resulted from the Heavenly Venerable’s experiments to approach the Ultimate Universe. This remains unconfirmed: it may instead have arrived independently, and it never communicates an explanation 607 608.
Battle of the Heavenly Gate
The Great Being is identified as the source of the Cataclysm that shattered the Primordial World and the later devastation of the Ancient World. After reviving, it kills the three strongest Sanctum Founders 378.
In the original history witnessed by Lin Yuan, the first-generation Founders enter a singularity to confront it and lose. The victorious Great Being absorbs the planet, turns it into the Chaos Sea, and gestates a physical form. Its subsequent awakening shatters the world 385 493.
The Heavenly Venerable’s surviving Space-Time Power allows this outcome to be altered, creating an opportunity for escape. The resulting Endless Sea Universe remains vulnerable through its historical connections to the original universe 512 606.
Appearance
- Indescribable form: In Lin Yuan’s first vision, it cannot be clearly seen, explained, or described. As its image becomes clearer in his mind, it approaches the point of noticing him 316.
- Historical manifestation: Appears as a gray, hazy mass while devouring worlds, then contracts into a tiny dot after encountering resistance 493.
- True body: More chaotic and changeable than the Chaos Sea Water accompanying it. Looking at it floods the observer’s mind with disordered, polluting information 634.
Personality
During its incomplete resurrection, the Great Being acts largely through instinct. When Lin Yuan hides the Nirvana Sapling, it destroys the surrounding lake and terrain in apparent frustration. Lin Yuan compares this outburst to a child smashing things after failing to obtain what it wants 417 466.
Its recovering intelligence makes it more dangerous rather than more communicative. It begins concealing interference through altered perceptions and rewriting history to remove threats. During the Finale War, its projected information conveys surprise, anger, and contemptuous arrogance, but it offers no intelligible explanation of its motives 598 606 608 631.
Although it sometimes displays anger, Lin Yuan ultimately regards it as closer to an emotionless machine of destruction than a predator interested in toying with its victims 634.
Abilities & Skills
Chaos Crown
Chaos allows the Great Being to accommodate and reproduce powers belonging to enemies it has destroyed, as well as develop additional powers of its own 510.
- Explains the Crawlers’ varied Authorities despite their powers originating from one entity 510.
- Allows it to use the captured half of Lilia’s Nirvana power 510.
- Reproduced powers do not equal genuine Crowns. Chaos cannot simply grant unlimited authentic Crowns to itself or its followers 510 620.
Destruction Crown
Destruction is its pure destructive power and the principal reason it is considered virtually unmatched 510.
- Its influence extends into Crawler Apostles’ Authority Bodies, destroying those bodies after death 510.
- Lin Yuan’s A-rank Energy can counter Destruction, making him a potential threat to the Great Being 510.
- Its destructive manifestations include reducing a lake, nearby rocks, and soil to gray motes 417.
Paradox Power and Singularities
As a Paradox Level being, the Great Being possesses power beyond ordinary Authorities and Crowns 503.
- Naturally possesses two Supreme Crowns, unlike ordinary Lords of the Crown 587.
- Its two highest-level powers make creating energy black holes effortless; a singularity serves as its dwelling during the Battle of the Heavenly Gate 577.
- Can fully control Paradox Power, unlike Lin Yuan’s initially uncontrollable portion. Why it does not use that power against his black hole during the final confrontation remains unanswered 634.
Space-Time Manipulation
The Great Being acquires access to part of the Heavenly Venerable’s Space-Time Power. Lin Yuan attributes this to the Chaos Sea Water eroding the Heavenly Venerable’s remains 606.
- Rewrites unfinished histories, including the Battle of the Heavenly Gate and the Endless Sea Universe 606.
- Reverses damage to the World Tree and replaces Lin Yuan’s memories with a version of events in which he failed to reach it 616.
- Projects a Time Barrier on the scale of the Nether River, far exceeding those used by ordinary Lords of the Crown 615.
- Cannot alter histories once they are completed and fixed in place 606.
Pollution and Mental Interference
Its power attacks bodies, perception, and thought 598 615.
- Direct pollution transforms victims into destructive, mindless Chaos Monsters 598.
- Alters observers’ perceptions so that they see a vibrant World Tree as withered 598.
- Changes Crawlers’ underlying thinking without preventing them from behaving normally or recognizing themselves as rational 475 478.
- Even a glance at its true body severely pollutes anyone below Lord of the Crown. Lords of the Crown still suffer suppression, with weaker Founders unable to remain standing 634.
Nirvana and Angels
The half Nirvana Crown inside the Great Being is the foundation of its revival 637.
- Angels split directly from it and become almost impossible to kill under the half Crown’s influence 634.
- Chaos Sea Water strengthens the angels and enables them to counterattack after suppression 631 634.
- Grinding angels into primitive energy prevents their ordinary revival. Restoring one afterward would require placing the half Nirvana Crown directly inside it 634.
- Its awakening sends Lilia into eternal slumber; even a Paradox Level being cannot wake her without recovering that half Crown 637.
Remote Attention and Descent
The Great Being can notice threats and project power without fully entering their location 316 477 598.
- Dangerous historical information can form its image inside a reader’s mind and expose them to its gaze 316.
- Killing many Crawlers in rapid succession attracts its attention, especially when the victims are closely connected to it 477 484.
- Its projected pressure crushes Crawler Priests rather than protecting them 479.
- Uses the corrupted World Tree as a route to project power and attempt descent into the Nether River 598 615.
Limitations and Countermeasures
| Limitation or countermeasure | Effect |
|---|---|
| Conflicting instincts | During incomplete resurrection, its reflexes can work against its own followers. Lin Yuan notices it erasing Crawler corpses and exploits its attention against pursuing Priests 477 479. |
| Restricted descent | At Life Star, Lin Yuan concludes that it can descend freely only within that planet’s bounds, allowing him to escape through a Space Channel 431. |
| Protective safeguards | The Nether River Monarch’s protection interrupts its image in Lin Yuan’s mind; Lilia’s Coffin withstands projected attacks 319 417 479. |
| Missing World Tree Heartwood | Prevents complete control of the World Tree and, through it, the Nether River 606. |
| Fragile descent passage | Its own overwhelming power can damage the passage, forcing it to divert attention to repairs 619. |
| Heavenly Venerable’s Time Maze | Interferes with its Space-Time Power during the Finale War, temporarily preventing historical revision and disrupting its Time Barrier 631. |
| Betrayal Crown | The Oathbreaker turns power forcibly poured into him against itself, temporarily exhausting the Great Being’s presence near the Heavenly Venerable’s remains 625. |
Relationships
- Lin Yuan — Enemy who rejects escape as the only possible response. He survives repeated encounters, counters Destruction with A-rank Energy, and continues seeking complete victory after humanity’s final battle 433 510 637 639.
- Heavenly Venerable — Fellow Paradox Level being and ancient opponent. The Great Being kills him but later erodes his remains to obtain part of his Space-Time Power 503 606.
- Lilia — Connected through the divided Nirvana Crown. The Great Being possesses the half needed to prevent her eternal slumber 510 589 637.
- Crawlers — Worshippers who initially exploit its incomplete resurrection to steal power. Their intended parasitic survival becomes increasingly compromised as its awakening restores control over them 466 475.
- Sanctum Founders — Ancient enemies whose legacies support humanity’s resistance. Their historical records classify fifty-four survivors of the Cataclysm by the threat they pose to it 316.
- Oathbreaker / Wayne Drake — Former adherent of the Crawlers’ survival strategy who ultimately sacrifices himself to sabotage its power and help Lin Yuan retrieve the Heavenly Venerable’s remains 476 625.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dangerous Historical Knowledge
Crawler tablets force information about the Sanctum Founders into Lin Yuan’s mind, bringing him close to the Great Being’s notice. Little Box suppresses the tablets before its image fully forms. The Nether River Monarch subsequently provides protection and warns that investigating history or killing Crawlers recklessly can expose Lin Yuan 316 319.
Nirvana Sapling and Central Sea Pursuit
The Nirvana Sapling attracts the Great Being, but Lin Yuan hides it and escapes its destructive outburst inside Lilia’s Coffin 417 418.
During the Central Sea pursuit, Lin Yuan discovers that its attention is not protective toward the Crawlers. He deliberately attracts it while surrounded, surviving in the Coffin as its pressure destroys nearly all the pursuing Priests 477 479.
World Tree and Historical Revision
Its interference in a History Secret Realm reveals that humanity’s supposedly instinct-driven enemy is recovering intelligence. The Second Lord confirms that it can revise unfinished history 598 606.
When Lin Yuan attacks the World Tree, it reverses events to preserve its descent route. Lord Yi and the Second Lord sacrifice themselves to disrupt that control. Later, damage to the passage interrupts another attempt at rewriting history as Lin Yuan reaches the tree 616 619.
Finale War and Aftermath
Humanity chooses a battlefield containing the Heavenly Venerable’s Time Maze to hinder its temporal abilities. The objective remains severing the Great Being’s final connection to the Endless Sea Universe, not overpowering it directly 631.
Its true body nevertheless enters the battlefield and routs the human side. Against Lin Yuan, it feeds overwhelming power into his energy black hole until the growing suction threatens to consume him. The Three Saints intervene as he prepares a sacrificial counterattack 634.
Humanity wins the final battle, but the Great Being has not been completely defeated. Its awakening leaves Lilia eternally asleep, and Lin Yuan continues preparing to confront it rather than accepting that outcome 637 638 639.
Trivia
- Its title forms a historical loop: Ancient Sanctum figures call it “Chaos” until Lin Yuan refers to it as the “Great Being.” They then adopt the name he knows from the future 503.
- The octopus comparison is metaphorical: The Third Lord likens it to an octopus gripping the Primordial Universe and its offshoot, the Endless Sea Universe. This describes its hold over the worlds, not a confirmed anatomical form 631.
