"Has that huge snake left?" Yang Yong blurted out the question he had been itching to ask.
As he saw it, the convoy stopping here meant that the huge snake had stopped chasing them.
He just did not know whether it had left or was lingering somewhere behind them.
"Probably... not!"
"Huh?" Yang Yong looked at Cao Xianming, his eyes full of questions.
If it had not left, why were they not still running?
"Look here!" Cao Xianming took out a map and pointed to a spot on it.
Yang Yong looked where he was pointing. It was a city center, nothing special.
He gave Cao Xianming a puzzled look, only to hear something that shattered his entire worldview.
"This is where we are right now!"
Seriously, are you messing with me?
That was the first thought that popped into Yang Yong's head.
Yet Cao Xianming looked utterly certain. Clearly, this was a result he had calculated countless times already.
"This used to be the center of Qing City!"
Ignoring Yang Yong's shock, Cao Xianming continued, "Data doesn't lie! Originally, I didn't know why fleeing in this direction gave us the highest probability of survival."
Yang Yong raised an eyebrow and looked at him expectantly.
"It turns out a lake appeared here! That huge snake doesn't dare approach the shore!"
After saying that, Cao Xianming looked at Yang Yong, meeting his gaze.
A trace of apprehension flashed through both their eyes-there was something in this lake, something that even that huge snake feared!
The subject was too heavy, and with their current strength, even knowing would not let them do anything about it.
Yang Yong tried to change the subject. "How did this lake suddenly appear here? What happened to the city that used to be here?"
Cao Xianming pondered for quite a while before offering a guess. "After the Apocalypse, plenty of things became inexplicable. Before the Apocalypse, who had ever heard of Sequence Transcendence?"
Yang Yong nodded.
The world he had transmigrated into was very similar to his original Earth. It was also a Spiritless World, with all sorts of legends, yet no one had ever seen any of those transcendent beings.
"Someone proposed the World Drift Theory. Two worlds might attract each other and slowly merge. The outbreak of the Apocalypse could very well be two worlds merging."
Cao Xianming continued, "Everything from the Eerie World is merging into our world! Everything we knew before can only serve as a reference, not our sole basis. This map, for example."
Cao Xianming tapped the map. "This used to be a city, but now it's a huge lake. The original mountains, rivers, and terrain have all changed. As time passes, these changes will become more numerous and more drastic!"
Everything Cao Xianming said was an information overload for Yang Yong.
It turned out that the Eerie invasion of this world might actually be the merging of two worlds.
This explanation greatly broadened Yang Yong's horizons.
According to this theory, the changes in terrain, the mass deaths of plants and animals, and their mutations all became understandable.
Yang Yong's thoughts wandered, and he pondered many things. Only when Xiao Ma came calling, "It's boiling!" did he come back to his senses.
Then came another lively scene as everyone lined up for fish. It took three pots before everyone had eaten their fill.
Rubbing his bulging belly, Yang Yong lay contentedly on the grass. "This feels so good. It's been ages since I ate this well!"
Just then, mist suddenly began rising from the lake beneath the blazing sun.
Thick mist soon blanketed the entire lake.
"What's that?"
Some sharp-eyed survivors spotted something drifting through the mist over the lake and cried out in surprise.
Yang Yong turned to look. Was that a horse?
A horse with a pair of wings!
A pegasus?
The image flashed past.
A mirage?
Before Yang Yong could figure out exactly what was happening, he realized there were more behind it.
Many pegasi actually flew across the sky, some large and some small. Were they a herd?
Yang Yong looked at Old Cao, only to find Cao Xianming staring fixedly at the scene too.
Yang Yong asked, "What is this?"
Old Cao shook his head. "I don't know either! Maybe it's a scene from another world!"
"Are we in any danger here?"
"No! At least not today!"
Seeing Old Cao like that, Yang Yong grew curious about the Data Master Sequence and immediately asked him, "How many times a day can you use your ability?"
"That's a secret!"
Fuck, fine, keep it to yourself, Yang Yong grumbled inwardly.
Old Cao countered with a question. "After awakening Sequence Transcendence, your physique improves dramatically. But you... hehe, yours doesn't seem to have!"
More importantly, in his calculations, Yang Yong's probability of awakening was still 100%, rather than showing that he had already awakened.
Wang Ying, for instance, had a probability of 130%. Anything over 100% meant she had already awakened. If she encountered the right opportunity in the future, she might very well awaken a second Sequence.
Yang Yong's heart jolted.
Indeed, he had not awakened Sequence Transcendence. He was still an ordinary person. He had not expected Cao Xianming to see through him.
Just as some unrealistic thoughts began forming in his mind, Cao Xianming spoke. "Everyone has their own secrets. If you can figure them out yourself, good for you. But if we don't want to talk about them, don't ask!"
"Just like I never ask why you can use wondrous items when you aren't a Sequence Transcendent!"
Yang Yong understood. He had taken things for granted.
The few Sequence Transcendents in the group each had their own secrets.
For example, Wang Ying's blade that could restore itself.
All they needed to do was stick together and look out for one another.
It was the Apocalypse. Anyone without secrets would not have survived this long.
Yang Yong shook his head helplessly and changed the subject. "How long do we have to stay here?"
"I don't know."
Huh? Yang Yong was taken aback.
Then Cao Xianming said, "I calculated the next three days. If we leave the lakeshore, the probability of being attacked is 100%."
"100%? So that huge snake hasn't left? He's keeping watch from a distance, waiting for us to leave the lakeshore?"
"Yes."
"Then is there another route we can take?"
Cao Xianming rubbed his nose and said, "I don't know. I got curious and tried calculating whatever's in the lake. It used up all my transcendent power, so I can't use my ability for now. Let's stay here for three days first. There are fish in the lake. We'll find ways to catch some over the next few days."
So that was why. Yang Yong was speechless.
Still, Old Cao's words revealed some information: calculations consumed transcendent power, and how much they consumed depended on how powerful the target was.
Considering that Old Cao could calculate things about that huge snake, whatever secret lay in this lake went far beyond the snake.
Yang Yong could only think, Holy shit!
He stared blankly at the seemingly unremarkable lake before him.
Just what secrets are in this lake?
I really want to go down and take a look!
No!
Yang Yong abruptly snapped out of it and slapped himself.
In so many horror movies, curiosity killed the protagonists, until in the end, only the title remained!
