The black fog, once so thick it seemed impossible to disperse, actually cleared at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The next second, a full moon as scarlet as blood hung high in the night sky without warning!
One second, heaven and earth were pitch-black; the next, the Blood Moon hung overhead. The change was so fast it made their scalps prickle!
Yang Yong stood stunned for a long moment before he recovered.
This wilderness was probably divided into countless small zones, each with completely different rules and scenery.
In the zone they had just driven through, they could not see the Blood Moon at all.
Yet.
In the zone they had now entered, not only did the Blood Moon hang high overhead, but the road beneath them had become smooth, like a forgotten highway.
Stranger still, the bus was driving through a dense forest, and the leaves on those towering trees were actually transparent!
The Blood Moon's light pierced the leaves, casting dappled patterns of light and shadow on the ground, yet not a single leaf could block that scarlet moonlight.
"Drive toward the Blood Moon!"
Yang Yong shouted at Old Zhao.
Old Zhao jerked the steering wheel, and the bus let out an overburdened roar as it charged toward the direction where the Blood Moon had risen.
The forest was terrifyingly quiet. There were no insects chirping or birds calling. Apart from the sound of tires rolling over the ground, there was only deathly silence.
But the quieter it was, the more uneasy Yang Yong felt.
In the apocalypse, the most terrifying thing had never been a storm of attacks, but this kind of chilling silence.
He tightened his grip on the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors and scanned his surroundings warily.
These trees were hundreds of meters tall, shooting straight into the sky. No matter how he looked at them, they exuded something sinister.
How could ordinary trees grow so tall?
The survivors also sensed that something was wrong, and their nerves, which had only just relaxed a little, tightened once more.
The bus drove through the forest and was about to leave its boundaries, yet nothing unusual had happened.
Inside the bus, someone could not help whispering, "These trees look scary, but... they don't seem dangerous?"
"Why does Mr. Yang look like he's facing a powerful enemy?"
"What do you know! Trees that look this strange have to have something wrong with them! What if these trees could move..."
Before he could finish, his words cut off abruptly.
Because the very thing he feared most had happened!
Crack-crack-
Accompanied by a teeth-grating noise, the surrounding trees suddenly moved!
It was not their trunks that moved, but their densely packed branches. Like vicious venomous snakes, like withered hands, they clawed savagely at the bus!
"Fuck!"
Yang Yong reacted instantly and unleashed the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors.
The coldly gleaming scissors turned into a streak of light, spinning furiously around the bus. The snapping sounds were relentless as countless severed branches fell to the ground.
Seizing the opening, Yang Yong roared at Old Zhao, "Hit the gas! Get us out of here!"
Old Zhao had been scared witless by the sight before him.
Branches had instantly covered the windshield, blocking his view completely. He did not dare step on the gas.
Only when the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors shredded the branches on the windshield, revealing the road ahead,
did he snap back to his senses and floor the gas pedal, nearly stomping it straight into the fuel tank!
The bus let out a furious roar and charged forward like mad.
But the trees' attacks grew denser and denser. Branches surged toward them like a tide, and the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors gradually struggled to keep up.
Yang Yong gritted his teeth and tapped the One-Yang God-Sealing Banner again with his fingertip.
The Red-Clothed Female Ghost appeared instantly, while the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors flew back into his hand.
Yang Yong shoved open the window beside him and vaulted onto the roof.
He raised his left hand, and the One-Yang God-Sealing Banner unfurled in the wind, instantly growing taller than a person, its surface thick with ghostly energy;
in his right hand, he gripped the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors, their cold gleam piercing.
He cut down the incoming branches one by one. Dark green sap oozed from the severed ends, giving off a pungent, foul stench.
The Red-Clothed Female Ghost floated ahead of the bus, constantly clearing the branches that fell onto the road, but as more and more branches piled up, she gradually slowed as well.
Just then, a thought suddenly flashed through Yang Yong's mind.
Could these strange trees also be artifact-refining materials?
Could the Thousand-Hammer, Hundred-Refinement Furnace absorb them?
With a nothing-to-lose attitude, he silently called out, Furnace, something good's coming your way!
To his surprise, it actually responded!
A streak of light suddenly flew out of his dantian. With just a light sweep, it took in all the severed branches and transparent leaves!
It worked!
Yang Yong's eyes lit up. Holding nothing back now, he directed the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors to cut viciously into the trunks of the surrounding trees!
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Towering trees crashed down one after another, only to be swept away by that streak of light the moment they hit the ground.
Only three hundred meters remained before the forest's exit.
Just then, an utterly shrill shriek suddenly rang out from every direction!
The sound was piercing, like countless ghosts wailing at once, and the bus suddenly shook violently.
"Fuck!"
Yang Yong's expression changed drastically. He jumped back inside the bus, shoved aside Old Zhao, whose eyes had already gone unfocused, and seized the steering wheel.
After hearing that shriek, all the survivors, Old Zhao included, convulsed and frothed at the mouth. Their eyes rolled back as they slumped in their seats as though having epileptic fits.
Only Yang Yong barely managed to retain his senses, thanks to the protective spiritual light of the Little Golden Flood Dragon Scissors.
Gritting his teeth, he floored the gas pedal, and the bus shot out of the forest like an arrow loosed from a bow!
Phew-
Another ten-odd minutes passed before Old Zhao, who had been pushed aside, slowly came to. His gaze was bewildered, and he muttered to himself.
"Who am I? Where am I? What happened to me?"
That dopey look made him seem exactly like a lost village dog.
"Awake?" Yang Yong glanced at him.
Old Zhao nodded blankly. Only after a long while did he stammer, "What... what happened just now?"
"Those trees all let out a howl, and you passed out."
Yang Yong spoke casually, making no mention of their embarrassing display of collective epileptic fits.
Otherwise, they would probably have been so embarrassed they could have clawed out a three-bedroom apartment with their toes.
"You drive."
Yang Yong handed the steering wheel back to him and looked outside.
Beyond the forest lay a vast grassland.
The grass grew very low, all of it hugging the ground. It looked no different from an ordinary grassland.
But Yang Yong knew perfectly well that in this strange apocalypse, the more normal a place looked, the more deadly the dangers it concealed.
He suddenly remembered something Cao Xianming often said: data didn't lie!
Since Cao Xianming had calculated that following the Blood Moon gave them the highest survival rate, then even if this route held danger, it had to offer a chance of survival too!
At that thought, Yang Yong felt considerably more confident.
Whatever came, he would deal with it!
It wasn't as if the sky could fall anyway...
No!
If even the Eerie could descend in the apocalypse, why couldn't the sky fall?
