Ch. 276A Roaming War in the Beast Territory

Mu Bai and Jiang Ya escaped Tie Niu and led the Human Race cultivators in a roaming rebellion that grew to two hundred thousand fighters, including two Dao Zun cultivators. As the Beast Race gathered nearly a million troops and changed to coordinated encirclement tactics, the rebels suffered grievous casualties and struggled to withstand three Demon Generals.

  • Mu Bai and Jiang Ya fought Tie Niu until the Human Race cultivators escaped Dai Ming's city, then withdrew and regrouped with their army.
  • Mu Bai and Jiang Ya adopted roaming tactics, raiding cities and gathering surrendered Human Race cultivators while avoiding a direct confrontation with the Beast Race.

  • Tie Niu requested reinforcements, bringing the allied Beast Race army to nearly a million troops.
  • The Beast Race split its forces into three armies led by Demon Generals and used encirclement and interception tactics, inflicting grievous casualties on the rebels.

Ch. 277A slavish nature was hard to change

Mu Bai led the Human Race army to a fortified city for a decisive stand against three Beast Race armies, but the cultivators’ fear and resignation left him to face Tie Niu alone. As Mu Bai began to falter, Alchemist Old Xu joined the fight with Burst-Explosion Pills, leaving Tie Niu struggling to defend himself.

  • Mu Bai positioned his army behind a Thousand-Fathom Wall and a great river as the three Beast Race armies surrounded the city.
  • Mu Bai urged the cultivators to fight for their descendants, but their silence showed they expected defeat and feared their soul-controlling Jade Slips.
  • Mu Bai challenged Tie Niu and fought him with his Twin Fish Sword and metal Origin Power, but Tie Niu’s armor and World Force overwhelmed him.
  • Jiang Ya refused to join the fight, saying the two other Demon Generals would make his help futile, while the cultivators watched Mu Bai weaken.
  • Alchemist Old Xu flew to Mu Bai’s aid and hurled Burst-Explosion Pills at Tie Niu, setting him ablaze and forcing him to fend off the attacks.

Ch. 278Stirring their fighting spirit

Mu Bai burned Tie Niu out of his black-gold armor and led the Human Race cultivators into battle, stirring their fighting spirit before recalling them safely to the city. Tie Niu planned to win the rebels back through promises of pardon while Mu Bai prepared the city for another fight.

  • Old Xu’s Exploding Pills and Mu Bai’s flames overheated Tie Niu’s black-gold chain mail, forcing him to tear it off before fleeing Mu Bai’s killing strike with serious burns.
  • Mu Bai rallied the two hundred thousand cultivators, and Jiang Ya, Yin Hong, and the rebels charged the Beast Race Army in a bloody battle.
  • Mu Bai disengaged from a Demon General and sounded the gong to recall the Human Race forces; the Beast Race did not pursue them.
  • Tie Niu accepted a subordinate’s plan to offer pardon to the rebel soldiers and wait until their morale weakened before seeking their surrender.
  • Mu Bai ordered Artifact Forging masters to make Soul Crystal Cannons overnight and sent cultivators to search for soul crystal mines in the mountains behind the city.

Ch. 279The War at a Stalemate

Mu Bai organized the cultivators in the city into a disciplined army, and their defenses repelled Tie Niu’s attempt to force their surrender. As the war at the Lingze Defense Line remained deadlocked, Xing Yun advanced to Xiu Zun and waited for Mu Bai’s return.

  • Mu Bai divided the 180,000 cultivators into mobile Combat Squads, which built up the city’s defenses and supplies over ten-odd days.
  • The thin-faced half-beast urged Tie Niu to demand the rebels’ surrender, and Tie Niu brought two Demon Generals and several thousand beasts to the city walls.
  • Mu Bai fired a Soul Crystal Cannon to interrupt Tie Niu’s speech, and the detachments joined in a barrage that killed or wounded more than half of Tie Niu’s accompanying beasts.
  • Tie Niu blamed the thin-faced half-beast for the attack and killed him, while Mu Bai stopped the cultivators from pursuing the retreating enemy and ordered them to prepare for a prolonged defense.
  • The war at the Lingze Defense Line remained at a stalemate despite reinforcements, while Xing Yun became a Xiu Zun and waited for Mu Bai to return so she could avenge her tribe.

  • Taiyuan Pavilion was razed overnight by a supreme expert, and people suspected Mu Lan Pavilion while it made no effort to deny the rumors.
  • Wu Meng left the Lingze Defense Line and wandered the wilderness, while Mu Bai remained unaware and led the humans of the Beast Territory in battle.

Ch. 281Xiu Zun Xing Yuan

With the cultivator army stalemated against Tie Niu’s forces, Mu Bai met Xiu Zun Xing Yuan, an array master from the Eastern Ridge’s Star Great Tribe, who offered to build a Star Array Puppet capable of confronting a Demon General. Xing Yuan began refining it, while Mu Bai sent cultivators to search for the Metal-Attribute Crystal needed to complete the puppet.

  • Tie Niu recruited two Demon Generals, increasing the pressure on Mu Bai’s army as the fighting remained deadlocked.

  • Xing Yuan led the craftsmen in assembling the puppet from black gold, connecting its component arrays, and adding a Water-Fire Grand Array.

Ch. 282Enemies on All Sides

Mu Bai led the Human Race cultivator army in a desperate attack against the Beast Race Alliance Army, but the force was nearly surrounded and annihilated. Zhou Qilong arrived with tens of thousands of reinforcements, striking the beast army from behind.

  • With the cultivator army nearly surrounded, Zhou Qilong arrived with tens of thousands of cultivators and attacked the Beast Race Alliance Army from behind.

Ch. 283Refining demons with Demon Cores

Zhou Qilong’s arrival helped the human cultivators rout Tie Niu’s army and secure Northern Territory City, which grew into a powerful stronghold. Mu Bai then focused on refining his body, spirit, and three inner demons with Demon Cores while resolving to pursue Dao cultivation through Soul Power rather than his Flesh Body.

  • Zhou Qilong joined Mu Bai’s battle, and the human cultivators forced Tie Niu and the other Demon Generals to retreat.
  • The humans expanded their city into Northern Territory City, organized their armies under four Dao Zun, and attracted several hundred thousand cultivators.
  • Mu Bai used Beast Cores and Demon Cores to temper his body and refine his mind and soul, aiming to create Demon Armor and demonic weapons.
  • After exhausting his Demon Transformation Demon Cores, Mu Bai’s flesh approached peak Xiu Zun strength.
  • Mu Bai decided not to enter Dao Zun cultivation through his Flesh Body and instead planned to reach peak Soul-Power Xiu Zun through his Fifth Spirit Position.

Ch. 284Greedy Desires and Evil Thoughts

Mu Bai used the cultivators’ minds and souls left by Dai Long to rapidly strengthen his Soul Power and Mental Power, but the pleasure awakened a dangerous greed that nearly drove him to kill for more. He stopped cultivating this way and went to Northern Territory City, where he learned Jiang Ya had become commander and had claimed the City Lord’s Manor for himself.

  • Mu Bai decided not to risk tempering his body with the two powerful Form Transformation Demon Cores and turned his attention to cultivating Soul Power.
  • Mu Bai accepted the dead cultivators’ minds and souls as cultivation resources and devoured them, rapidly increasing his Soul Power and Mental Power.
  • After consuming the minds and souls over several months, Mu Bai developed an intense craving for more and imagined killing someone to take their soul.
  • Mu Bai regained control of himself, stopped cultivating with minds and souls, and left his cave abode for Northern Territory City.
  • Mu Bai learned that Jiang Ya was the city’s commander and headed toward the City Lord’s Manor, unaware that Jiang Ya had made it his private stronghold.

Ch. 285When Slaves Rose to Power

Mu Bai discovered that Jiang Ya had become an extravagant and ruthless commander, while Old Xu had lost hope in their rebellion and was near death. After Old Xu died, Mu Bai vowed to return his remains to the Primordial Soul Sect in Eastern Ridge.

  • Jiang Ya took command of the cultivator army, assigned Zhou Qilong to farm and mine, and kept Old Xu and the other artisans producing supplies.
  • Jiang Ya spent more than a year indulging himself, while Zhou Qilong waited for Mu Bai to emerge from seclusion before deciding whether to leave.
  • Mu Bai visited the City Lord's Manor, confronted Jiang Ya's decadent behavior, and left after Jiang Ya allowed him to go.

  • Mu Bai vowed to return Old Xu's remains to Eastern Ridge.

Ch. 286Internal strife erupted first

Mu Bai accepted Xiu Zun Xing Yuan’s request to deliver a Jade Slip to Xing Mu and kept Old Xu’s ashes to bring home someday. He then joined Zhou Qilong and led an army toward Northern Territory City to take the cultivators seeking refuge in the Human Spirit Domain, where Jiang Ya confronted them and ordered an attack.

Ch. 287The oriole lurked behind

Mu Bai held off Jiang Ya, Yin Hong, and Xue Ping long enough for Zhou Qilong to lead the hundred thousand cultivators away, but he was gravely wounded and lost consciousness. Xiu Zun Xing Yuan rescued him as Xue Ping and Yin Hong killed Jiang Ya and moved to take control of Northern Territory City.

  • Mu Bai fought Jiang Ya, Yin Hong, and Xue Ping while Zhou Qilong withdrew with the hundred thousand cultivators.

  • Xiu Zun Xing Yuan secretly carried Mu Bai away from the city while Xiu Zun Jiang Ya destroyed the two Star Array Puppets.
  • Xue Ping and Yin Hong found Mu Bai missing, but Xue Ping chose to secure command of Northern Territory City instead of launching a large-scale search.

Ch. 288Nourishing the heart

Xiu Zun Xing Yuan died after carrying the gravely wounded Mu Bai into the mountains, where an azure ox cared for Mu Bai until he recovered enough to travel. Ch. 290Words Become Law

Mu Bai shared monkey wine and grilled fish with the beasts in a peaceful valley until Bai Jun and Xuan'er arrived. Bai Jun healed Mu Bai with a cup of wine and blessed the beasts with power, leaving Mu Bai worried that their old harmony would not last.

  • The spirit monkeys brought more monkey wine, and the grizzly caught fish from the river to repay them.
  • Mu Bai showed the monkeys how to roast fish with salt, and the beasts gathered to eat and drink together.
  • Bai Jun and Xuan'er arrived, and the terrified beasts prostrated themselves before them.
  • Bai Jun gave Mu Bai a cup of wine that healed his injuries and restored his powers.
  • Bai Jun used his words to turn Azure Ox, the white-furred spirit monkey, and the grizzly into half-demons, then left with Xuan'er after giving Mu Bai a phoenix-held jade cup.
  • Mu Bai worried that the beasts’ new power would bring desire and end the valley’s peaceful harmony.

Ch. 291The World Beyond the Valley

Mu Bai left Everlasting Spring Valley with Spirit Monkey and Gray Bear, carrying the remains of Xiu Zun Xing Yuan and learning that Xue Ping and Yin Hong had seized Northern Territory City. After Mu Bai refused to rescue the captured cultivators and departed, Xue Ping and Yin Hong panicked and prepared the city’s defenses against him and the two half-demons.

  • Mu Bai said farewell to Azure Ox, who vowed to protect Everlasting Spring Valley, and set out with Spirit Monkey and Gray Bear.

When Old Fox Mountain and his allies joined forces to capture Mu Bai for a reward, Mu Bai killed Zhi Mu and trapped Old Fox Mountain, who unleashed a banner filled with the souls of Northern Territory cultivators.
