Background / History

Itadori’s grandfather died before his early experiences at Jujutsu High. Gojo describes him as having no family around him, drawing a parallel with Madara’s apparent isolation. Becoming Sukuna’s vessel leaves Itadori facing both the danger of possession and the threat of execution by jujutsu authorities 31 32.

Madara regards Itadori as a “perfect vessel” capable of bearing Sukuna’s soul without being consumed. Although Madara considers taking on that role himself, he abandons the idea because he cannot guarantee the same compatibility or control 25.

Personality

Itadori is energetic, straightforward, and openly curious. On arriving at Jujutsu High, he asks Gojo directly whether he would lose to Sukuna, then enthusiastically introduces himself to Madara. His friendliness also puts Junpei at ease: Junpei describes his kindness as natural rather than charitable or forced 26 47.

His concern for others often overrides his own safety. He stays behind at the prison so Fushiguro and Kugisaki can escape, places himself between Mahito and Junpei, and urges Junpei to run even while Mahito has him pinned. After learning why Gojo and Madara protect him, he resolves to become stronger so he can protect others alongside them 28 31 50.

He struggles with killing people, even those transformed beyond rescue. Nanami’s explanation that the Transfigured Humans cannot be restored helps him act, reframing their deaths as release from suffering. His compassion also leads him to question whether Junpei would be better off returning to ordinary life once the immediate danger is over 53 58.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Enrollment and the Prison Incident

After swallowing Sukuna’s Finger, Itadori arrives at Jujutsu High with Gojo. Madara enters his inner domain through the Sharingan, confronts Sukuna, and confirms that the curse remains contained 26.

The higher-ups subsequently use a prison mission to attempt to eliminate Itadori while Gojo is absent. Itadori stays behind to protect his classmates and releases Sukuna, who then removes his heart. Madara intervenes, Itadori regains control, and Gojo and Madara conceal his survival by declaring him dead 28 30.

Secret Training

Gojo shelters Itadori in a concealed basement and begins his cursed energy exercises. After demonstrating stable output, Itadori receives a practical introduction to Domain Expansion through Madara’s Heavenly Imperial Pillars and Gojo’s Unlimited Void 31 37.

Junpei and Mahito

Itadori befriends Junpei through their shared interest in movies and joins him and his mother for dinner. When Junpei later lashes out under Mahito’s manipulation, Itadori confronts him, listens to his grief, and offers him a place among the sorcerers at Jujutsu High 47 49 50.

Madara prevents Mahito from killing Junpei, allowing Itadori to fight alongside his friend rather than lose him. With Nanami’s support and Madara’s guidance, Itadori develops soul-targeting attacks. Madara ultimately confirms Mahito’s death, and Itadori witnesses Junpei’s reunion with his living mother 50 52 53 54 55 58.

Goodwill Event

Itadori and Todo face Hanami before Kashimo interrupts their battle to seize Sukuna’s vessel. Kashimo anticipates Todo’s tactics and nearly kills Itadori, but Madara intervenes and Todo moves him to safety. Itadori subsequently withdraws rather than interfere in Madara’s battle 66 68 71.

After the event is suspended, Itadori looks forward to another competition with Kyoto. Three days later, he joins Tokyo’s team for the replacement baseball game 73 75.

Yasohachi Bridge and the Decoy

Itadori accompanies Fushiguro and Kugisaki during the investigation connected to Yasohachi Bridge. When Fushiguro realizes Tsumiki has been cursed, Itadori urges him to check on her safety 85.

The apparent Itadori who later confronts Kenjaku is actually Madara using the Transformation Technique. Madara has replaced him to lure Kenjaku into a trap, while the real Itadori is kept in a basement through arrangements involving Mechamaru. The decoy’s actions are therefore not Itadori’s own feats 90 91.

Complete Sukuna Exorcism Plan

Itadori participates in the controlled revival of Sukuna by swallowing the remaining fingers. Madara faces the fully restored curse alone, with Gojo standing by as backup 94.

Itadori survives Sukuna’s eventual purification. Madara stabilizes him with Reverse Cursed Technique, and the other sorcerers find him unconscious but breathing steadily. Madara confirms that Sukuna has been completely exorcised 112.
