Background

Yomi was born to ordinary parents, who were killed in an evil-spirit attack when she was very young. Isayama Naraku adopted her afterward, making her the next heir of the Isayama Family. Though she remembers little of her biological parents, she considers herself happy with Naraku and her younger sister, Kagura. 210

As an heir, Yomi trained in Kendo from childhood and joined the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Office to hone her abilities through evil-spirit extermination. She attended the ordinary Katagiri Middle School because Japan had no dedicated Onmyoji schools. 209 210

During Bell Menethil’s family visit to Japan, Yomi acted as their guide and host while secretly monitoring them for the Countermeasures Office. Her sincerity and Bell’s interest in Onmyoji practices gradually turned the assignment into a genuine friendship. 212 220 227

Later, the Killing Stone’s curse left Yomi severely injured before transforming her into an evil spirit. In that state, she killed Kagura’s father and fought Kagura until Bell intervened. Bell ultimately stabilized her by forming a Shikigami contract with her, allowing her to regain her sanity and reunite with Kagura. 583 590 592

Yomi is a slender young woman over 1.6 meters tall, with waist-length straight black hair. When she first meets Bell, she wears a Japanese sailor uniform and carries Lion King in a long cloth bag across her back. 209

Yomi is kind-hearted, dutiful, and deeply attached to Kagura. She takes her position as Isayama’s heir seriously, worries about civilian safety, and initially feels guilty over deceiving Bell’s family while monitoring them. 212 218

She is also impulsive and short-tempered, particularly when Bell and Shanna create chaos. Her usual anger is tempered by a protective instinct toward children and companions, but the Killing Stone magnifies her aggression and destructive impulses into outright ruthlessness. 215 585

After recovering, Yomi retains a sharper and more confrontational edge, but repeatedly prioritizes Kagura’s safety. She seeks Bell’s help to free Kagura from the burden of Byakuei and the Killing Stone rather than accept the risk to her sister’s life. 684
