Background / History
Taking in Mo Lin
Ye Xingmeng rescued Mo Lin from the snow when he was four and nearly frozen to death. She brought him into the Ye Family, which subsequently fed, housed, and raised him alongside her daughter, Ye Lingling 1 4 19.
Two years later, she witnessed Mo Lin struggling to control his newly acquired Tiger Talisman power. Rather than investigate all his secrets, she staked Ye Lingling and the Ye Family’s holdings on him. His outward position became the family’s child bridegroom, while his actual responsibility was to serve as Ye Lingling’s Dao Protector. The arrangement initially remained known only to Ye Xingmeng and Mo Lin. He privately disliked its transactional nature, believing people should not be used as bargaining chips 7.
Mo Lin later worked in the family pharmacy before Ye Xingmeng sent him out to establish his own business, insisting that a man should have a business before marriage 4 44.
Ye Lingling’s Training Journey
Before Ye Lingling left for Suotuo City, Ye Xingmeng invited Mo Lin home for dinner. She inspected his necklace gift, recognizing life energy within its gemstone and intricate Soul Tool patterns on its chain. Unsatisfied with his explanation that it merely assisted cultivation, she questioned him privately and learned that it could generate protective Battle Armor capable of resisting an ordinary Titled Douluo. She requested a suit for herself, accepting that reproducing the unfinished creation would take time 7 14 15.
During Ye Lingling’s absence, Ye Xingmeng spoke with both of Mo Lin’s halves through a light screen. He explained that neither half was his complete self and that they became whole only upon merging. She accepted this explanation without demanding to know the source of the ability 29.
Tang Hao’s Death and the Family’s Secrets
After killing Tang Hao, Mo Lin confided in Ye Xingmeng. Her immediate concern was that Ye Lingling had been in Suotuo City, where the killing occurred. Once assured that her daughter was safe and had not witnessed it, she pressed Mo Lin to explain his true nature to Ye Lingling. She accepted his request for more time and offered to help 44.
When Ye Lingling returned, Mo Lin began calling Ye Xingmeng “Mom.” Although she initially protested that he and her daughter were not yet married, she accepted the address; the narration reveals that she had long awaited it 46.
Ye Xingmeng then helped maintain the distinction between Mo Lin’s public identity and the powerful man Ye Lingling had encountered in Suotuo City. She nevertheless exposed part of the deception by explaining that Xiao Hei was not his externally manifested Martial Soul, leaving Mo Lin to clarify his disguise abilities 46 48.
Personality
Ye Xingmeng delights in teasing her family, especially when she can make Ye Lingling blush or fluster Mo Lin. She readily adopts exaggerated grievances, mock suspicion, and deliberately unreasonable arguments to provoke a reaction. She prefers the livelier Evil Face to Mo Lin’s restrained Good Side because he is more entertaining to interact with 7 14 29.
Her teasing conceals genuine attachment. Tang Yuehua recognizes that her complaints about Mo Lin are largely affectionate boasting and that she already regards him as a son. When serious matters arise, Ye Xingmeng prioritizes Ye Lingling’s safety and emotional future over explanations for Mo Lin’s actions 44 46.
She is commercially shrewd but also charitable. Mo Lin credits her with teaching him to extract profit from every opportunity, while Heaven Dou City residents know her for helping ordinary people with nowhere else to turn. She treats restraint toward other people’s secrets as a business principle 24 29 45.
